‘I'm glad I stayed' – Celtic target opens up on transfer collapse after £7m Hoops bid

LONG-TERM Celtic target David Strelec insists he has finally got over the collapse of his move to the Scottish champions. And the Slovan Bratislava striker insists he would have no complaints if he remained in Slovakia. 2 David Strelec was a target for the Hoops in January Credit: Getty 2 He played against Celtic last season Credit: Kenny Ramsay Strelec was unhappy last season when his January move to Celtic fell through after Slovan Bratislava slapped a £9million price tag on him. He even refused to play after the window had ended before resolving his dispute with the club and helping Slovan win another title by scoring 20 goals. But he has stressed he is only concentrating on playing for Slovan Bratislava for the new season. He said: "I thought about the failed transfer for a while, I admit, about two weeks, then I got myself together. "As it turned out, I got injured anyway after it. "But in the end, everything turned out well and I'm glad I stayed. "It was my best season so far. It started with the European Championships, after which I joined Slovan after a short break. I didn't even have a long break, which actually helped me. "I did really well for both Slovan and the national team. "We have achieved great success in recent years. "I definitely feel the expectations have risen here. "I think people are now expecting at least the Europa League group stages, but it's not that easy. But nothing is impossible. "But of course our aim is to play in the Champions League again." Keep up to date with ALL the latest news and transfers at the Scottish Sun football page

Brendan Rodgers decides on next four Celtic signings after Osmand and Inamura transfers agreed

It has been a busy start to the summer at Parkhead that is set to continue with Champions League qualifiers rapidly approaching Business is picking up for Celtic this summer with the arrival of Callum Osmand set to be closely followed by the signing of Hayato Inamura. Striker Osmand was unveiled by the Scottish champions on a four-year deal earlier this week after swapping English Premier League outfit Fulham for a shot at the Premiership. ‌ Alongside the 19-year-old, Inamura is set to seal a quick-fire double swoop after both the defender and his club Albirex Niigata confirmed a move to European football is imminent. ‌ But with the tricky Champions League qualifiers just around the corner, the deals are unlikely to stop there for Brendan Rodgers with Kieran Tierney, Ross Doohan and Benjamin Nygren already in the door. Despite the addition of Osmand, the Hoops' boss will be on the lookout for more firepower with the club yet to replace the January departure of Kyogo to Stade Rennes. Despite the impressive form of Daizen Maeda while leading the line and having £9million man Adam Idah to call on, the club could follow up on January interest in David Strelec amid their striker search. He was subject of a £7.5m offer from the Hoops in January - with the Slovakian champions holding out for £9million - but after wrapping up the campaign with 25 goals and a league title to his name and hasn't been shy in opening the door to a Celtic switch. Former Slovan boss Vladimir Konik has told the frontman it's the right time to leave Bratislava, stating to Sport 24:"David should leave. He is approaching the peak of his form. ‌ "He gave everything to Slovan and I am not sure if even more can be given. There will be a lot of interest in him, although Slovan will not receive a better offer from the British Isles than in the winter (than Celtic offered in January)." Dominic Calvert-Lewin has also been touted as a target after the 28-year-old's Everton contract has now expired bringing his nine-year long stint with The Toffees to an end. But former England international Jermaine Jenas has told the striker exactly where he should move next. When speaking about interest from Celtic on talkSPORT, he advised: 'If Sunderland coming into the league went, 'Look Dominic Calvert-Lewin, we're going to double your wages to keep us in the league,' then of course he would go and do that and it would be beneficial to Sunderland. ‌ "But you've already been at Everton for so long, I don't see him improving on that particular team in terms of where they are in the league.' Despite the defensive reinforcement of Inamura - who can play on the left side of defence or at centre-back - more reinforcements to the backline will be required. Maik Nawrocki looks set to leave the club while Gustaf Lagerbielke also faces an uncertain future after returning from FC Twente - with reports in Serbia claiming a £5.1million Celtic bid for Red Star Belgrade centre-back Veljko Milosavljevic has already been turned down. ‌ However, Mozza Sport state that it would not be a "surprise" if the 17-year-old left with the Hoops, Everton and Paris Saint-Germain among clubs touted with a deal. Greg Taylor's departure for PAOK leaves Rodgers' searching for back-up to cover returning Tierney - with Djurgarden wonderkid Keita Kosugi touted as the main candidate. Sporting director Bosse Andersson has hinted at a bumper price that could scare off suitors - but they appear to already be preparing for life without the 19-year-old should Celtic come calling. ‌ Nettavisen state that the Swedes are ready to make a bid for Sandefjord left-back Christopher Cheng if they sell their rising star. Despite the arrival of Nygren, with Jota on the injury list and Nicolas Kuhn sparking interest across Europe another winger also appears to be on Rodgers' shopping list. ‌ Michel-Ange Balikwisha appears to be moving back up the Parkhead agenda with Celtic holding a long-standing interest in the 24-year-old. Gazet van Antwerpen report that Antwerp hope to sell the wide man as part of a bid to recoup £20million in transfer fees this summer and balance the books. Sarpsborg winger Sondre Orjasaeter has also told suitors he is now "ready" to make a move away from Norway amid interest from the Hoops and PSV Eindhoven.

Celtic transfer target told to strike while the iron is hot as outcast fires himself into shop window with stunner

Strelec - who was the subject of a bid from Celtic back in January - netted 25 goals in all competitions last season David Strelec has been urged to leave Slovan Bratislava this summer while he is at the peak of his powers - with talk over a big transfer to Celtic showing no signs of subsiding. The Slovakia international enjoyed a fine campaign in front of goal, netting 20 times in 29 games to help his team clinch a seventh straight league championship. ‌ The Hoops saw a £7.5million bid for the striker turned down back in January, with Bratislava reportedly holding out for £9million. ‌ Brendan Rodgers is set to add Fulham youngster Callum Osmand to his forward line as well as Swedish international winger Benjamin Nygren but the Irishman is also in the market for a more proven goal scorer to help fill the void left by Kyogo Furuhashi in January. And one-time Bratislava boss Vladimir Konik has called on Strelec to make a move this summer after outgrowing his current side. He said: "David should leave. He is approaching the peak of his form. He gave everything to Slovan and I am not sure if even more can be given. "There will be a lot of interest in him, although Slovan will not receive a better offer from the British Isles than in the winter." One man with a bleak future at Parkhead is winger Luis Palma. The Honduras star was bombed out on loan to Olympiakos in Greece in the second half of last season but ended up getting his hands on a league and cup double. However, the Piraeus giants have opted not to sign the wide man on a permanent basis, leaving the 25-year-old's immediate future in limbo. But Palma doesn't appear to be letting his current situation get to him after netting a last minute winner for his country to book their place in the knockout stage of the Gold Cup. Honduras looked to be heading for a 1-1 draw against Curacao until the ex Aris star came up with the goods right at the death. Palma collected a lobbed pass from Carlos Pineda before getting the ball under control and lashing an unstoppable left-footed shot into the roof of the net just inside the box. The victory has set up a play-off showdown against Panama, with the winners progressing to the quarter finals.
