GMA Network a major winner at 8th EDDYs Awards

GMA Network scored major wins at the 8th Entertainment Editor's Choice (The EDDYs) Awards, taking home 10 trophies during the awards night organized by the Society of Philippine Entertainment Editors (SPEEd) last Sunday, July 20, at the Marriott Hotel. The Kapuso contingent was bannered by Kapuso superstars Marian Rivera, Alden Richards, Dennis Trillo, Ruru Madrid, and the Zig Dulay-directed 'Green Bones,' which won five out of its nine nominations. The multi-awarded film, which also bagged top recognitions during the 50th Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF), won Best Picture, Best Director (Zig Dulay), Best Cinematography (Neil Daza), Best Actor (Dennis Trillo), and Best Supporting Actor (Ruru Madrid) at the EDDYs. Taking home the other top acting honor was Kapuso Primetime Queen Marian Rivera who was adjudged Best Actress for her portrayal of Teacher Emy in the Kip Oebanda-directed political thriller 'Balota.' Asia's Multimedia Star Alden Richards, alongside Trillo and Madrid, was named to the Box Office Hero honors list. GMA Pictures, meanwhile, was recognized as the Producer of the Year. The Entertainment Editors' Choice, is an annual film event in the Philippines that honors excellence in the Philippine film industry. Organized by the Society of Philippine Entertainment Editors (SPEEd), it recognizes the achievements of actors, writers, directors, producers, and other individuals involved in filmmaking. Their 2024 film made history by earning a record-breaking ₱1.6 billion worldwide, officially becoming the highest-grossing Filipino film of all time. Last month, Alden was named Phenomenal Box Office King at the 53rd Guillermo Mendoza Memorial Scholarship Foundation Box-Office Entertainment Awards 2025 for Hello, Love, Again. Adding another milestone to his career, he recently made his directorial debut with Out of Order, which premiered at the 3rd Da Nang Asian Film Festival in Vietnam. GMA Pictures produced some of the best movies of 2024 -- Green Bones, Hello, Love, Again, Balota, and Lost Sabungeros. Hello, Love, Again lead stars Alden Richards and Kathryn Bernardo will be awarded as Box Office Heroes after their movie made history with PhP1.6 billion in global earnings. Alden is also nominated for Best Actor with Dennis Trillo (Green Bones). Hello, Love, Again and Green Bones are nominated for Best Picture, Best Screenplay, Best Production Design, Best Editing, and Best Musical Score. Kapuso Primetime Queen Marian Rivera is nominated for Best Actress for the film Balota, while Ruru Madrid is nominated for Best Supporting Actor for Green Bones, alongside Joross Gamboa for Hello, Love, Again. Meanwhile, Zig Dulay is one of the nominees for Best Director for Green Bones with Hello, Love, Again director Cathy Garcia-Sampana. Green Bones is also nominated for Best Cinematography. The EDDYS or The Entertainment Editors' Choice honors actors, writers, directors, and producers in the Philippines film industry. 'Green Bones' garners 9 nominations at The Eddys Awards 2025

"Green Bones" has been nominated for nine awards at The Entertainment Editors' Choice (The Eddys) Awards by the Society of Philippine Entertainment Editors (SPEEd), GMA Pictures announced Tuesday. The film garnered nominations for Best Picture, Best Director for Zig Dulay, and Best Screenplay for Ricky Lee and Angeli Atienza. "Green Bones" stars Dennis Trillo and Ruru Madrid were also nominated for Best Actor and Best Supporting Actor, respectively. The film was likewise nominated for Best Cinematography for Neil Daza, Best Production Design for Maolen Fadul, Best Editing for Benjamin Tolentino, and Best Musical Score for Len Calvo. Even more, GMA Pictures shared the good news that they were named Producer of the Year by the award-giving body for their "contributions to Philippine cinema over the past year." "Green Bones," produced by GMA Pictures and GMA Public Affairs, is directed by Direk Zig based on an original story by JC Rubio, senior documentary manager of GMA Public Affairs. It is about Domingo Zamora (Dennis), a man notorious for the murder of his sister and her daughter. Now that Domingo is up for parole, the newly assigned prison guard Xavier Gonzaga (Ruru) takes a personal interest in ensuring Domingo remains imprisoned no matter the cost. "Green Bones" bagged several awards at the Metro Manila Film Festival 2024 last December, including Best Picture, Best Screenplay (Ricky Lee and MMFF 2023 Best Screenplay winner Angeli Atienza), Best Actor (Dennis), Best Supporting Actor (Ruru), Best Cinematography (Neil Daza), and Best Child Performer (Sienna Stevens). Meanwhile, at the 3rd Gawad Dangal Filipino Awards, it won First Best Picture, Best Actor (Dennis), Best Supporting Actor (Ruru), and Best Director (Direk Zig) Stream "Green Bones" on Netflix.
