Matty Healy's wildest moments – celebrity feuds to raw meat on stage
The 1975 star Matty Healy is known for his controversial moments, and as the singer is heading to Glastonbury we're taking a look back at some of these moments He's the frontman who brought us Somebody Else but Matty Healy is better known these days for being somebody people love to argue about. As The 1975 's lead singer gears up to storm Glastonbury's Pyramid Stage, we're taking a look back at the moments that had jaws dropping and headlines rolling. Whether he's mocking fellow stars, causing international incidents, or eating raw meat mid-set, Matty's antics offstage often overshadow the music. Mocking Ice Spice He landed himself in hot water after appearing on a podcast with Adam Friedland and Nick Mullen, where the trio made racist jokes about rapper Ice Spice - referring to her as 'one of the Inuit Spice Girls,' a 'chubby Chinese lady' and 'a f**king Eskimo.' Matty laughed along as the hosts mimicked Chinese and Hawaiian accents. His on-stage apology didn't help much: 'I don't want Ice Spice to think I'm a d**k. I love you, Ice Spice. I'm so sorry.' Horrific porn confession In the same podcast, Matty admitted to watching extreme porn called Ghetto Gaggers, which centres on the humiliation of women of colour describing scenes where women were brutalised". He said in the podcast: "I think it literally was something like Ghetto Gaggers on the TV, Someone is just like getting brutalised." The revelation sparked widespread backlash, especially from fans who saw it as deeply harmful. A dig at Taylor Swift Before the pair were linked romantically, Matty dismissed dating rumours with a dig that caused quite a stir. He said: 'If she wasn't Taylor Swift we wouldn't be talking about her… She wasn't a big impact on my life.' He added, 'If I had gone out with Taylor Swift the first thing I would've thought was 'F**king hell I am NOT being Taylor Swift's boyfriend.' That's also a man thing, a de-masculinating, emasculating thing.' He later denied he was throwing shade, but the internet wasn't convinced. On-stage kisses even during COVID Fans were split when Matty kissed multiple fans on stage during the band's post-pandemic tour. While some loved the spontaneity, others questioned the timing with consent, boundaries and public health still major concerns. Same-sex kisses in anti-LGBTQ+ countries In 2023, Matty caused chaos at Malaysia's Good Vibes Festival when he slammed the government's anti-LGBTQ+ stance and kissed his male bandmate Ross MacDonald on stage. The festival was shut down and The 1975 were banned from the country. He doubled down in Dubai, kissing a male fan on stage. 'I don't think we'll be allowed back,' he tweeted. 'But I wouldn't have done anything differently.' Critics argued the gestures were performative, risking more harm than help for local LGBTQ+ communities who face real legal consequences. Nazi salute and Andrew Tate During a London gig, Matty mimed a Nazi salute while playing a clip of Andrew Tate claiming it was satire. But the stunt was widely slammed as tone-deaf and inflammatory, especially given Tate's own controversial reputation. Eating raw meat on stage If you thought the antics stopped there - think again. At a Madison Square Garden show in 2022, Matty chomped down raw meat mid-performance and openly touched himself on a sofa. 'I'm sorry if you came with your dad and I was touching my d**k. It's your fault for bringing your dad,' he told the crowd. His Glastonbury slot is set to be as unpredictable as ever but whether fans are tuning in for the music or the mayhem, one thing's certain: Matty's headline-grabbing reputation is far from fading.

Glastonbury headliners The 1975 issue warning to fans ahead of tonight's set
EXCLUSIVE: A source close to the band told the Mirror that the Somebody Else hitmakers are planning to step out with a few surprises up their sleeve during their performance Fans of The 1975 should prepare for some special surprises when they headline Glastonbury for the first time this evening. The band, who are playing on the Pyramid Stage from 10.15pm, have been relatively quiet over recent months but will return to the spotlight in style tonight. Matty Healy and his band mates have 'pulled out all the stops' to ensure their set this evening is one to remember. 'Everyone was so blown away that Matty, Ross, George and Adam were headlining, but it's no surprise given how loved they are universally,' a source close to the band tells us. 'They've played Glastonbury before, but this is the boys at their very best and then some. They're one of the biggest bands in the world, and their tours sell out almost instantly, but to see them on the Pyramid Stage in the headline slot, nobody could have expected this. Everyone behind the scenes has worked so hard to pull out all the stops - fans should expect a few surprises.' 'Matty once said that people should be 'on guard for a year' because he would lose his mind about it and it's certainly been one of their major highlights of their career and it's only going to get even bigger for the four lads." Healy hit headlines across the world in 2023 when he enjoyed a brief romantic relationship with a newly-single Taylor Swift. Their union fizzled out within weeks but was enough to inspire the Shake It Off singer to mention Healy in a number of tracks on her latest album, The Tortured Poets Department. On a podcast in October, Healy seemingly revealed he would not be producing a musical reply to Swift's swipes - saying that he is 'not interested in' writing about the 'casual romantic liaisons' he has 'become known for'. 'If I made a record about, I don't know, all the stuff that was said about me, or my casual romantic liaisons, or my, whatever it may be, that I've kind of become known for, just because I was famous,' he mused. 'I think that's an obvious thing to draw from. I'm just not interested in it. And I think that the maintenance of the status quo is something that I always fight against." 'So the idea of making a record about something that personally happened to me, that by the time I put it out is going to be like, two years old. I see people doing that as well, and it's just not interesting.' Healy, who is now engaged to model Gabbriette, is better known to many as The 1975 frontman who have produced era-defining music for a legion of loyal fans. The group is made up of singer Healy, bassist Ross MacDonald, guitarist Adam Hann, and drummer George Daniel, who is pop star Charli XCX's fiancé. The four school friends formed the band in 2002 and shot to fame with the release of their chart-topping self-titled album The 1975. They saw similar success with the release of A Brief Inquiry into Online Relationships and Being Funny In A Foreign Language. This is their first time headline Glastonbury. Healy's mother, Loose Woman panellist, Denise Welch, celebrated the news by posting the Glastonbury line-up on Instagram, saying: 'I guess I'll be going to my first UK festival!!!' Welch also added a post on her Instagram story saying: 'Look who's headlining on the Friday!!! Popping out to buy some wellies.' The 1975 has won four Brit awards, claiming the British Group award twice, along with British Album of the Year in 2019 and Best Rock/Alternative in 2023.

The 1975 at Glastonbury 2025: start time, setlist and everything you need to know
Whether you love them or hate them, The 1975 are long overdue an appearance at Glastonbury. Last playing an afternoon slot on the Other Stage almost a decade ago, the band responsible for sadboy pop bangers like 'Somebody Else', 'It's Not Living (If It's Not With You)' and 'Robbers' will make a triumphant return to the festival in 2025. The band fronted by Matty Healy are taking the top spot on Friday night at Glasto this year. It's likely to be an exciting show, with perhaps a few controversial comments from the front man thrown in every now and again. Let's just hope he doesn't consume any raw steak on stage. Here's everything you need to know about The 1975 at Glastonbury 2025. When are The 1975 headlining Glastonbury 2025? Matty Healy and co. are headlining Glastonbury on Friday, June 27. What time will The 1975 come on the Pyramid Stage? The 'About You' singers will play Glasto's main stage from 10.15pm to 11.45pm. Any news on the setlist yet? There is no official setlist, meaning it will be a surprise on the night, however this is what The 1975's last gig in Amsterdam looked like: The City Milk Me & You Together Song Anobrain You Medicine (with It's Not Living If It's Not With You snippet) Oh Caroline A Change of Heart All I Need to Hear Robbers Somebody Else I Always Wanna Die Sometimes Menswear Paris Then Because She Goes Be My Mistake Jesus Christ 2005 God Bless America If You're Too Shy Let Me Know Heart Out It's Not Living If It's Not With You Frail State of Mind Sex Give Yourself a Try Love It If We Made It About You Will any guests be joining The 1975's set? It's not unusual for Pyramid headliners to bring out special guests during their shows, however these are usually kept as a surprise. The 1975 have collaborated with Charli xcx, Beabadoobee, Travis Scott and The Japanese House in the past, so they could potentially be any of those artists (although we don't have high hopes for Scott coming out). There's also the chance the band could bring out someone totally random, or no guests at all. Fans will have to wait and see. Have The 1975 ever played at Glastonbury before? Yes, but they haven't done a set at Worthy Farm for nearly a decade. The 1975 first played Glasto on the Pyramid in 2014. They returned for a performance on the Other Stage in 2016.

Dakota Johnson had bizarre asparagus murder dream about Glastonbury headliner
Dakota Johnson has confessed she had a really bizarre dream about one particular frontman involving asparagus and murder. She revealed a Glastonbury headliner had recently haunted her dreams while on Amy Poehler's Good Hang podcast. Surprisingly, it wasn't her (reportedly ex) boyfriend and five time Pyramid Stage pro Chris Martin — instead it was a veggie-morphing nightmare about Matty Healy. 'I actually had a dream the other night,' the Madame Web star laughed. 'Matty Healy from The 1975 was in my dream and he was murdering people, and he was Matty Healy as himself.' We're not sure why the son of Denise Welch was on a killing spree, or who exactly he was enacting his fatal revenge on. Dakota, 35, revealed this wasn't even the weirdest part of the dream as the Somebody Else singer had a really handy trick for avoiding capture. 'When the people were looking for him—they were cops maybe, he would turn into a piece of asparagus.' To this, Amy burst out laughing and joked 'so people just run past him?' prompting a fine piece of acting from Dakota as she pretended to be an asparagus. Well, that's certainly one stage antic we've not seen from him so far but you never know when it comes to Matty, 36. The 1975 frontman — who famously dated Taylor Swift in 2023 — wasn't the only one becoming one of your five-a-day in Dakota's mind. 'I saw these two poles and a bed and I was like, 'Matty?'' the Fifty Shades of Grey icon said. 'The sheets came down and it was him as an asparagus and Angelina Jolie as an asparagus. 'They were getting married, and they left in a helicopter together as asparagai. [sic]' Congratulations are in order then it seems for these asparagus-ified celebrities. 'That is such a weird dream,' responded Amy. 'You might be getting too much sleep.' Apparently Chris, 48, was incredibly supportive of this strange vegetable superpower and said the whole thing would make a good film plot. The couple, who had been together for nearly eight years, have gone their separate ways as reported by an insider to People Magazine. This mirrors intense speculation that they had broken up last year, but they swiftly squashed the rumors — neither have spoken about this split so far. Despite this, the Yellow hitmaker gave Dakota a shout out at his June 1 show in California, telling the crowd to 'Be kind to yourself, be kind to each other'. He then added 'Don't forget to see Materialists!' which is the name of Dakota's upcoming film. More Trending Coldplay won't be taking to the Pyramid Stage this year at Glastonbury… unless they're Patchwork or another TBA (now there's a thought). However, The 1975 are set to headline on Friday night and while he's not going around turning into a big green vegetable, Matty's problematic behaviour has raised some eyebrows. Here's hoping Worthy Farm goes off without any controversial remarks from the About You singer — and without any asparagus. Got a story?
