Trey Parker and Matt Stone Reach Five Year Deal to Keep ‘South Park' at Paramount

'South Park' isn't going anywhere. Co-creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone have agreed to an expansive overall deal that will keep their Park County production company aligned with Paramount for the next five years. The deal will see the duo produce 50 new episodes of 'South Park' for Comedy Central over the next half decade, and the entire 26-season 'South Park' library will stream exclusively on Paramount+. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed. The deal, which was announced hours before 'South Park' Season 27 premieres, brings an end to a period of uncertainty for the long-running comedy franchise. The new season was originally slated to premiere on July 9, but was delayed for two weeks for reasons relating to Paramount's ongoing merger with Skydance. 'We are at the studio working on new episodes and we hope the fans get to see them somehow.' The deal ensures that one of Paramount's most prized media assets is secured as Skydance prepares to take over in the event the merger is approved. In addition to the long-running show, 'South Park' has produced a theatrical feature film, 10 video games, and seven direct-to-streaming specials. 'Matt and Trey are singular, creative forces whose fearless humor and boundary pushing storytelling have made South Park one of the most beloved and enduring series ever — more popular today than at any point in its history, and one of the most valuable TV franchises in the world,' Chris McCarthy, co-CEO of Paramount Global and president of Showtime/MTV Entertainment said in a statement. 'They are exceptional talents and trusted partners – we're thrilled that Comedy Central and now Paramount+ globally will be the home to 'South Park' for years to come and our thanks to the Skydance team for their vital partnership in making this happen,' added McCarthy. 'Trey and I and the whole 'South Park' crew are grateful for this extension and this deal. We want to thank Chris McCarthy and Keyes Hill-Edgar for years of great partnership and are looking forward to continuing to make 'South Park' for the next five years,' Stone said in his own statement, with Parker adding that 'We are grateful for this opportunity and deeply honored by the trust placed in us. This is about more than a contract — it's about our commitment to this organization, our teammates, and our fans. We're focused on building something special and doing whatever it takes to bring championships to this city.' ‘Weapons' New Trailer: Josh Brolin Demands to Know Where His Missing Child Went in Zach Cregger's Horror Movie

Zach Cregger's 'Weapons' quickly became one of the year's buzziest horror movies when the first trailer dropped in April. Now, the latest trailer for the new film from the 'Barbarian' director shows the drama (and haunting imagery) getting even darker as children's disappearances plague a small town. More from IndieWire Netflix Canceled the Release of a Gore Vidal Biopic Eight Years Ago - for the Filmmakers, the Story Isn't Over The Academy Reveals Board of Governors for 2025-2026 The logline reads: ''Weapons' is a horror film that follows an entire classroom of children who get out of their beds and disappear one night without a trace. When all but one child from the same class mysteriously vanish on the same night at exactly the same time, a community is left questioning who or what is behind their disappearance.' Julia Garner stars as the teacher whose entire class, except for one student, goes missing in the dead of night. Josh Brolin plays one of the many parents disturbed by the disappearances, now determined to find his child at any cost. Alden Ehrenreich, Austin Abrams, Cary Christopher, Benedict Wong, and Amy Madigan also star. Cregger directs from his own screenplay, and also produces alongside Roy Lee, Miri Yoon, J.D. Lifshitz, and Raphael Margules, with Michelle Morrissey and actor Brolin executive producing. New Line Cinema chief Richard Brenner previously described the film as being 'batshit insane.' Cregger agreed, telling Entertainment Weekly that 'Weapons' is 'weirder, twistier, and bigger' than his directorial debut, 'Barbarian.' ('Weapons' is said to exist within the same universe as 'Barbarian,' which became an indie hit in theaters in September 2022.) Cregger told Entertainment Weekly that 'Weapons' is 'an incredibly personal story' as well, saying, 'There's certain chapters of this that are legitimately autobiographical that I feel like I lived.' The 'Weapons' creative team behind the camera includes director of photography Larkin Seiple, production designer Tom Hammock, editor Joe Murphy, and costume designer Trish Summerville. Ryan Holladay, Hays Holladay, and Cregger compose the original score. The film is a New Line Cinema, Subconscious, Vertigo Entertainment, and BoulderLight Pictures production, with Warner Bros. Pictures distributing. 'Weapons' will also get an IMAX nationwide release. Cregger will next reimagine 'Resident Evil' with his first IP film project. Warner Bros. Pictures will release 'Weapons' in theaters August 8. Check out the latest trailer below. Harvey Weinstein Receives Mixed Verdict, but Found Guilty of Sexual Assault in New York Retrial

The jury in Harvey Weinstein's New York retrial reached a partial mixed verdict on Wednesday, June 11, finding the disgraced former movie mogul guilty of one count of criminal sexual assault against former 'Project Runway' assistant Miriam Haley and not guilty of a separate count of criminal sexual assault against model Kaja Sokola, per reporting in the Associated Press. The jury has yet to reach a verdict on a third charge of third-degree rape against aspiring actress Jessica Mann, and is expected to resume deliberations on Thursday. The retrial of Weinstein's criminal case in New York was prompted by an April 2024 ruling from the New York Court of Appeals that deemed 'egregious errors' were made in Weinstein's 2020 trial, in which he was found guilty of assaulting Haley and committing third-degree rape against Mann. Regardless of how the New York retrial plays out, Weinstein is still serving a 16-year prison sentence following his conviction on three counts of rape and sexual assault in his 2022 Los Angeles trial. As the jury deliberated on Monday, the foreperson approached Judge Curtis Farber to discuss a private matter, per the AP. The judge later explained that the juror did not want to return to the deliberation room. 'He said words to the effect of 'I can't go back in there with the other jurors,'' the judge said, adding that the juror was being pressured to change his position by other jurors. 'He did indicate that at least one other juror made comments to the effect of 'I'll meet you outside one day,' and there's yelling and screaming.'Weinstein's lawyers saw the situation as cause to ask for a mistrial, with defense attorney Arthur Aidala saying 'I don't think the court is protecting this juror. Period.' But prosecutor Matthew Colangelo pushed back, saying that tense conversations are standard procedure during trials. 'He said he'd made up his mind, he didn't want to change it, and people were pressuring him to change it. That's what jury deliberations involve,' Colangelo said. But the trial continued, and the jury began Wednesday by re-hearing Mann's testimony about Weinstein's alleged rape in 2013. Tom Cruise: ‘All the Great' Actors Should Know the Technical Elements of Filmmaking

Tom Cruise is sharing his advice to fellow actors: Become a filmmaker. The 'Mission: Impossible — The Final Reckoning' star and producer said, while receiving the coveted British Film Institute Fellowship (via Times of London), that it is imperative for actors to understand the below the line elements of filmmaking to better their own craft. Cruise even pointed to how fellow stars such as Marlon Brando worked with the camera. 'I always tell actors: spend time in the editing room, produce a movie, study old movies, recognize what the composition is giving you, know what those lenses are, understand the lighting and how to use it for your benefit,' Cruise said. 'Understand the art form to that degree. Brando absolutely understood lighting; all the greats did.' More from IndieWire Neon Names Ryan Werner President of Global Cinema, Courtney Ott Replacing Him as Head of Cinetic Marketing Sydney Sweeney and Paul Walter Hauser Team Up to Steal an Indigenous Artifact in 'Americana' Trailer Cruise further pointed to how film schools do not widely teach production tools and filmmaking technology to acting majors. 'It is important to understand the tools around you,' Cruise said. 'There is tech. It is like understanding the stage as an actor but for a lot of artists, it is not taught in film school: How to understand the lens and what it can do, and why there is eye movement and recognize the effect it has.' Cruise, as his co-star and mentee Glen Powell shared in 2024, has his own six hour film school for colleagues. Powell told GQ UK that Cruise explained how cameras worked in the custom tutorial. 'He said, 'This is just for my friends',' Powell said. '[In the video Cruise] is like: 'Do we all agree that this is what a camera is? This is the difference between a film camera and a digital camera…' The funniest part is on flying. It was like he put together this entire flight school. So he would literally go, 'OK, this is what a plane is. Here's how things fly. Here's how air pressure works.'' Of course, for those who aren't part of Cruise's famous six hour film school, auteur Werner Herzog has another way to encourage aspiring artists to learn about filmmaking. Herzog hosts an 11-day workshop that he deemed a 'film school for rogues,' and recently told CBS that he tells attendees to embrace their rebellious nature to make features. 'You do not become a poet by being in a college. […] You have to go outside of what the norm is,' he said. 'You have to have a certain amount of, I say, good criminal energy [to make a film.] [Filmmaking is] not for the faint-hearted.'
