‘Weapons' New Trailer: Josh Brolin Demands to Know Where His Missing Child Went in Zach Cregger's Horror Movie

Yahoo6 days ago

Zach Cregger's 'Weapons' quickly became one of the year's buzziest horror movies when the first trailer dropped in April.
Now, the latest trailer for the new film from the 'Barbarian' director shows the drama (and haunting imagery) getting even darker as children's disappearances plague a small town.

The logline reads: ''Weapons' is a horror film that follows an entire classroom of children who get out of their beds and disappear one night without a trace. When all but one child from the same class mysteriously vanish on the same night at exactly the same time, a community is left questioning who or what is behind their disappearance.'
Julia Garner stars as the teacher whose entire class, except for one student, goes missing in the dead of night. Josh Brolin plays one of the many parents disturbed by the disappearances, now determined to find his child at any cost. Alden Ehrenreich, Austin Abrams, Cary Christopher, Benedict Wong, and Amy Madigan also star.
Cregger directs from his own screenplay, and also produces alongside Roy Lee, Miri Yoon, J.D. Lifshitz, and Raphael Margules, with Michelle Morrissey and actor Brolin executive producing. New Line Cinema chief Richard Brenner previously described the film as being 'batshit insane.' Cregger agreed, telling Entertainment Weekly that 'Weapons' is 'weirder, twistier, and bigger' than his directorial debut, 'Barbarian.' ('Weapons' is said to exist within the same universe as 'Barbarian,' which became an indie hit in theaters in September 2022.)
Cregger told Entertainment Weekly that 'Weapons' is 'an incredibly personal story' as well, saying, 'There's certain chapters of this that are legitimately autobiographical that I feel like I lived.'
The 'Weapons' creative team behind the camera includes director of photography Larkin Seiple, production designer Tom Hammock, editor Joe Murphy, and costume designer Trish Summerville. Ryan Holladay, Hays Holladay, and Cregger compose the original score.
The film is a New Line Cinema, Subconscious, Vertigo Entertainment, and BoulderLight Pictures production, with Warner Bros. Pictures distributing. 'Weapons' will also get an IMAX nationwide release.
Cregger will next reimagine 'Resident Evil' with his first IP film project.
Warner Bros. Pictures will release 'Weapons' in theaters August 8. Check out the latest trailer below.

Is Squid Game getting an American spin-off? Everything we know so far

By Aman Shukla Published on June 28, 2025, 20:12 IST Last updated June 28, 2025, 20:15 IST Squid Game took the world by storm, and now that its third and final season hit Netflix on June 27, 2025, fans can't stop talking about what's next. With Seong Gi-hun's story wrapped up, whispers of a spin-off are growing louder. From a surprise cameo in the finale to rumors of a Hollywood heavyweight jumping on board, here's the scoop on whether the Squid Game universe will keep going. The End of the Main Series Let's start with the big news: Squid Game Season 3 is the end of the road for Gi-hun (Lee Jung-jae). Creator Hwang Dong-hyuk has said it plain and simple: 'The story I wanted to tell came to a full closure at the end of season 3' (Entertainment Weekly). The finale delivers a gut-punch ending to the tale of desperate folks battling it out in deadly childhood games for a huge cash prize. But just when you thought the games were over, the show throws in a curveball—a cameo that's got everyone buzzing about a possible spin-off. That Finale Cameo: A Clue to What's Next? Spoiler Alert: If you haven't watched Season 3, skip this part! In the last episode, we get a jaw-dropping moment: a big-name Hollywood star shows up in a scene set in Los Angeles. The Front Man, Hwang In-ho (Lee Byung-hun), spots a woman playing ddakji with someone, just like the recruiters did back in Season 1. It's a clear hint that the games aren't just a South Korean thing anymore—they might be going global. Fans are losing it over this, and it's got folks wondering if a new series is in the works, maybe set in the U.S. Netflix hasn't said anything official yet, but this feels like a deliberate tease. A Surprise Cameo Hints at a Spin-Off The hottest rumor out there is about an American version of Squid Game , and it's got a big name attached: David Fincher. Yup, the guy behind Fight Club and Mindhunter . Word on the street—well, more like reports from places like What's on Netflix and The Playlist —is that Netflix has been eyeing an English-language series called Squid Game: America since at least April 2023. Fincher's supposedly directing and producing, with British writer Dennis Kelly ( Utopia ) penning the script. It wouldn't be a remake but a new story in the same universe, with fresh faces and maybe some new twisted games. Here's the catch: Netflix hasn't confirmed it, and Fincher's keeping quiet. Still, Hwang Dong-hyuk sounds thrilled about the idea. He told GamesRadar+, 'As a big fan of David Fincher, I hugely respect a lot of his work. If he actually were to do the spinoff of Squid Game , I personally, as a fan, I am very excited to see what happens.' If Fincher's involved, you know it's gonna be dark, intense, and probably a little unsettling—perfect for Squid Game . Production might kick off in Los Angeles as early as December 2025, according to some reports, but until Netflix gives the green light, it's all speculation. That Season 3 cameo, though? It's making this rumor feel a lot more real. Ahmedabad Plane Crash Aman Shukla is a post-graduate in mass communication . 'F1' marks debut of first IMAX theater in Daytona Beach

When 'F1: The Movie' opens this weekend at CMX Cinemas Daytona Luxury 12 at One Daytona, the Formula 1 action movie that was partly filmed in Daytona Beach will mark a new addition at the multiplex movie theater. 'F1' will be the first film to be displayed on a new state-of-the-art IMAX screen, the first commercial movie theater in Volusia County to offer that popular trademarked technology. According to a company announcement, the new theater is equipped with IMAX with Laser, IMAX's most advanced theater experience. The system is heralded for its crystal clear, lifelike images and precision audio generated by a 4K laser projection system that features a new optical engine, custom designed lenses and technology that delivers brighter images with increased resolution, deeper contrast and widest range of colors. Although the CMX Cinemas Daytona Luxury 12 is the only theater in Volusia County to offer IMAX, at least two other theaters offer other enhanced technology systems: Regal Pavilion in Port Orange offers RPX, which stands for Regal Premium Experience. It's a proprietary premium large-format system that enhances the movie-watching experience with larger screens, superior sound systems and comfortable, premium seating. In Deltona, Epic Theatres of West Volusia offers Epic XL, its own premium large-format auditoriums designed for a more immersive movie-watching experience, featuring larger screens, enhanced sound systems and upgraded seating. The same technology also is available at Epic Theatres of Palm Coast in Flagler County. Here's a look at the history and technology of IMAX. In its broadest definition, IMAX is a theatrical distribution platform that utilizes proprietary technology to create a more immersive cinematic experience for movie-goers. The platform includes IMAX cameras, special film formats, dual projector systems, stadium theater seats and larger theater screens. Graeme Ferguson, Roman Kroitor, William C. Shaw, and Robert Kerr invented the IMAX projection system in Montreal in the 1960s, according to information on the technology published by the Toronto Film School. Ferguson produced and shot one of the early IMAX films, 'North of Superior.' The first IMAX film was called 'Tiger Child.' It was a short documentary film written and directed by Canadian Donald Brittain. Filming took place in 10 countries and the film's world premiere was held at EXPO '70 in Osaka, Japan. The film attracted more than 64 million visitors in a nine-month period. In the beginning, the company was known as the Multi-Screen Corporation. Today, IMAX is headquartered in New York, Toronto and Los Angeles, with additional offices in London, Dublin, Tokyo, and Shanghai. More: How to get 'F1' movie tickets, see showtimes at theaters near you Today, IMAX auditoriums primarily use the IMAX with Laser system. The projector houses a state-of-the-art 4K laser projection system with a new optical engine and customized lenses, according to information posted by the Toronto Film School. In its piece, the Toronto Film School interviewed Adam Cuthbert, director of technical services for IMAX. In that role, he oversees a global team that maintains and enhances IMAX systems that encompass 1,000 IMAX screens in 89 countries. 'IMAX's locations are designed to immerse you into the movie, with curved screens that fill your field of vision, and customized seating that puts you closer to the action,' Cuthbert said. 'You can expect a system that delivers crystal clear, lifelike images and precision audio. Every element is fully integrated to our precise standards — clearest visuals and precision audio, projection technology, and theatre design — working together to create what is widely acknowledged as the gold standard for the film entertainment experience.' The Traumpalast Multiplex in Leonberg, Germany holds the title for the world's largest IMAX screen, stretching close to 70 feet high and 125 feet across and weighing 500 pounds. The screen is so large that it has set two Guinness World Records: one for the world's largest permanent IMAX screen and another for the largest permanent cinema screen. When it comes to audio, IMAX gives it just as much attention as it does the visuals. 'The IMAX Experience is much more than just a big screen,' Cuthbert said. 'On all titles played on our systems, we create a specialized track to take advantage of the unique capabilities of our system.' These capabilities are possible due to IMAX's proprietary sound processing software that enables dialogue, music and sound effects to be enhanced, making for a film soundtrack that is 'more realistic and impactful,' Cuthbert said. IMAX theatres also come with a multi-channel sound system, with speaker placements both behind the auditorium screen and around the theatre. Cuthbert says this creates a sound field that 'envelops you from every direction, immersing you right in the action.' Squid Game creator reveals he wants to create a spin off

The final season of Squid Game just dropped and we have mixed emotions. While we're buzzing to be reunited with Seong Gi-hun as he fights for survival in the ever-deadlier games, we're also gutted that this is going to be the last series. Or is it? This comes as the show's creator, Hwang Dong-hyuk, reveals that he has an idea for a spin-off in mind. And, that he knows exactly what it's going to be about. Plus, with Squid Game being one of Netflix's most popular shows of all time, who's to say that his vision won't be turned into reality? In a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly, the showrunner revealed that his "faint ideation" involved a spinoff "about the three-year gap between season 1 and season 2 when Gi-hun looks around for the recruiters." Dong-hyuk continued: "There is that three-year period, and maybe I could have a portrayal of what the recruiters or Captain Park [Oh Dal-su] or officers or masked men were doing in that period, not inside the gaming arena, but their life outside of that. So that is some vague ideation that I have that could possibly be developed in the future." While this all sounds amazing (petition for Netflix to pick this up immediately), the creator also confirmed in the same interview that season 3 of Squid Game really is going to be the end. He also said that it'll be obvious that the show has come to a close. ICYMI, the latest - and last - series sees Gi-hun on a mission to end the games completely. Dong-hyuk expands: "Season 3 is indeed a finale, and you'll be able to feel that once you watch." But the hope that we're clinging on to? "I'm not trying to say that I'm going to close the door to spinoffs or sequels altogether because they say never say never," he concludes. Squid Game season 3 is now streaming on Netflix.
