Aussie TV presenter Hannah Hollis lands surprise new gig
Australian TV presenter Hannah Hollis has announced she's departing Fox Sports after 10 years with the sports broadcaster, focusing on her new role as presenter on lifestyle show, Luxury Escapes, which is currently in production. The presenter, who has earned a strong fanbase over the years for her work in sports broadcasting, will farewell Fox with her final appearance on tonight's netball coverage. Hollis is taking on a new challenge with the network, officially joining the lifestyle show Luxury Escapes as its new presenter. The star is no stranger to the show, having already featured on it in the second season. First aired in 2016, Luxury Escapes offers viewers an inside look into the world's best holidays, featuring some of Australia's most beloved locations and international getaways like Singapore, Los Cabos, Bali, the Maldives and Thailand. Nice work if you can get it, and when Hollis speaks to she's just returned from an assignment in the US, which will debut later this year. 'I've loved it. I've been to some of the most beautiful places around the world experiencing wild indulgence, adventure, food, art and culture all steeped in local tradition. It's a joy to share stories like this,' Hollis said of embracing the new career challenge. But Hollis is keen to stress she hasn't turned her back on sports reporting – it remains her first love, and she's eager to work more in the field in the future. Having finished up with Fox Sports, she will now look for new opportunities, mixing her passion for sport and entertainment. 'I am finishing up with Fox Sports following this weekend's Suncorp Super Netball round, after 10 fulfilling and enriching years,' she said. 'My time with Fox Sports and Foxtel — and the opportunities I've enjoyed over the past decade — have further fuelled my ambition. Now, I feel it's the right moment to explore broader professional challenges. 'Sport is the cornerstone and heartbeat of my career and I've also enjoyed exploring my ambition beyond that and into entertainment. So it's not one or the other.' Her extensive experience over 10 years includes being part of the 2024 Paris Olympics coverage which was recognised at the Aus Sports Commission Awards last year; game day hosting for NRL and various Rugby League entertainment show and WNBL and Suncorp Super Netball coverage to name a few. 'I'm proud of people I've worked with and learnt from and I'm grateful to have spent a decade with a high performing passionate and dedicated team,' she said of her time covering sport. 'My proudest highlights include our award-winning Paris Olympic coverage, the NRL opener in Las Vegas. 'Hosting Fox League and Fox Netball, the latter of which includes building a new team from the ground up and our world first all female NRL show League Life. 'I've relished exploring the world of entertainment over the years interviewing Hollywood stars and now hosting a high end travel show.'

Don Cherry, 91, signs off from Grapevine podcast for final time
'Thanks everybody for listening and toodaloo.' Article content With those six words, one of the most famous, combative and, yes, popular Canadian sportscasters signed off for what sure sounded like the final time. Article content Article content A frail-sounding Don Cherry, the now 91-year-old long-time icon of Hockey Night In Canada icon, ended the final episode of Don Cherry's Grapevine Podcast, which dropped this week. Article content The show, done with his son Tim, included 313 episodes, giving Grapes a forum since he was bounced from Hockey Night back in 2019 after comments in which he used 'you people' in talking about newcomers to the country marking Remembrance Day. Article content The podcast, which Tim Cherry noted had 6.5 million downloads over its run, was an opportunity for Grapes to stay in touch with the hockey world and for his loyal fan base to get a regular fix. Article content During the final episode, which lasted just 15 minutes, Tim asked his father questions submitted by listeners before the quick Grapes sign off. Article content 'We've been listened to all around the world,' Tim Cherry said, in the closing minute. 'It's just amazing how many different countries people download and listen to it.' Article content Though nowhere near as verbose as he was in his heyday, Grapes weighed in on some topics presented to him by his son. Article content On the Panthers winning the Stanley Cup final: 'They were the better team. But there's no way I was going to go against Edmonton.' Article content Article content On the Leafs being seen as the second-best team because they took the Panthers seven games: 'You have to if they went seven games. But it looked awful that seventh game.' Article content On whether Brad Marchand should have won the Conn Smythe trophy as the post-season MVP: 'I thought Marchand was pretty good. They should have given it to both of them. Marchand should have won it.' Article content Though Cherry had his detractors, many would say that Hockey Night In Canada has never been the same since his departure, a broadcast that has lacked a strong identity through a number of personnel changes. Article content The other side of the debate, of course, is that it was time for Cherry to go and the controversial comment was the final straw for the Rogers executives who sent him packing. Article content Though the podcast had its followers, obviously it had nowhere near the impact of Cherry's words delivered from the Hockey Night In Canada pulpit, must-see viewing for hockey fans every Saturday night for decades. Police arrested former New York Jets linebacker and current FOX NFL broadcaster Jonathan Vilma this week in Miami, Florida, for driving with a suspended license, according to reporter Andy Slater. Advertisement Vilma, 43, was originally stopped because his tag had expired. He had a 10-year career playing in the league, spending his first four seasons with the New York Jets beginning in 2004 when he won the league's Defensive Rookie of the Year honor. He then joined the New Orleans Saints in the 2008 season after the Jets traded him, becoming an integral piece on the defense that defeated the Indianapolis Colts in Super XLIV in the 2010 season. Vilma has spent the last five seasons as a color analyst on FOX NFL broadcasts while also contributing to college football productions since joining the media sphere. Advertisement The network has released any comment at this time and Vilma's status for the upcoming season is not yet known in the aftermath of this incident. The Jets selected Vilma in the first round of the 2004 NFL Draft and No. 12 overall. He played a total of 55 games with the team, not missing a contest through his first three seasons. He ended his career with 872 total tackles, 10.5 sacks, 10 fumble recoveries and 12 interceptions. Vilma's success at the professional level stems from a decorated collegiate campaign at the University of Miami (FL), including First-Team All-American recognition in 2003. Bizarre erection medicine ad-read sparks hilarious exchange between Mets announcers
New York Mets announcer Gary Cohen is known for his flawless delivery, whether he's calling game action or reading an advertisement for chewable erectile disfunction medicine. The trick, as he revealed to broadcast partner Keith Hernandez on Saturday, is not thinking too hard. Case in point: Cohen was reading a few spots during the Mets' 8-2 win over the visiting Colorado Rockies on Saturday when he came across one for BlueChew. '… By BlueChew,' Cohen said, adding the company tag line: 'Chew it and do it.' Hernandez, the color commentator and beloved former Mets first baseman, couldn't help but ask: 'What did you mean by that?' Cohen didn't struggle for an answer. Gary Cohen: "By BlueChew. Chew it and do it." Keith Hernandez: "What did you mean by that?" Gary Cohen: "I just read the copy here. I try to give it a good read. Try and give the advertiser everything that they paid for, Keith. And then it's somebody else's problem." #MLB — Awful Announcing (@awfulannouncing) May 31, 2025 'I just read the copy here,' Cohen calmly told Hernandez. 'I try to give it a good read. Try and give the advertiser everything that they paid for, Keith. And then it's somebody else's problem.' The exchange provided fans with a few laughs, given that BlueChew is an ED medication. So while 'chew it and do it' is a rather straightforward tag line, Cohen somehow managed to keep his dignity in the face of Hernandez's prodding with the help of some willful ignorance. 'I did read it well, didn't I?' Cohen asked. 'Oh, you're a champ,' Hernandez responded without giving away anything. 'You're a pro.' In addition to their collective laughter, Mets fans responded to the exchange by reasserting their opinion that Cohen, Hernandez and Ron Darling remain the best announcers in baseball. 'The Mets have the best booth and it's not even close,' one fan wrote on X. Another added: 'I don't know how I will ever survive without these guys at the booth. They have truly left the most largest of shoes to ever fill. It doesn't get better than these guys. They defined my childhood they have been with me my whole life.'

Ange Postecoglou's triumph breaks streaming record as Australians tune in ‘in droves'
Ange Postecoglou's Europa League triumph has delivered a record audience for Stan, which has been on a spree of acquisitions to consolidate its status as a major rival to the Dazn-owned Kayo Sports amid heightened competition in Australian sports broadcasting. Stan's live audience for Tottenham's 1-0 win over Manchester United on Thursday was the highest for a Europa League match since the streaming service obtained the Uefa club competition rights in 2021. The number of viewers also eclipsed the audience for every Stan broadcast of the Champions League – the most prestigious European football competition – apart from the 2022 decider between Real Madrid and Liverpool, when the provider still offered a 30-day free trial and saw a spike in temporary sign-ups likely from Reds fans. Ben Kimber, director of Stan Sport, said the audience watching Spurs and Postecoglou's victory was double the previous Europa League record. 'Off the back of a momentous morning for Ange Postecoglou and Australian football as a whole, we saw Aussies tuning into the blockbuster clash between Tottenham and Man United in droves,' Kimber said. 'It underlines our commitment to premium sport and world-class football, and shows the appetite that exists for it in this country.' The Europa League final and record-breaking audience caps off a busy period for Stan, amid increasing activity in the broader sports broadcasting sector and growing speculation around the division of football rights in Australia. The first benefits for Kayo Sports subscribers under new owner Dazn was confirmed this week when the Fifa Club World Cup – which has an international arrangement with Dazn – was confirmed to be broadcast by Australia's leading sports streamer in June. The arrangement is another step in the splintering of football across streaming providers. However, some relief could be imminent according to reports that Optus Sport is considering relinquishing its English Premier League rights to the content-hungry Stan. Stan and Nine secured a deal last week to show international rugby union including the home men's 2027 and women's 2029 World Cups, a month after securing access for Wallabies, Wallaroos and Super Rugby Pacific matches until 2030. Its other recent deals include the Sonny Bill Williams and Paul Gallen fight, and the fast-growing mixed martial arts league Professional Fighters League on top of its existing stable of rights which includes tennis, cycling and motorsport such as World Rally Championship, Indycar and Formula E. Sign up to Australia Sport Get a daily roundup of the latest sports news, features and comment from our Australian sports desk after newsletter promotion The chief executive at Stan owner Nine, Matt Stanton, confirmed this month the network was also interested in Formula One rights when they become available next year. They are currently held by Foxtel and Kayo Sports. This week Amazon Prime also confirmed details around more than 100 NBA and WNBA games and additional coverage starting next season available to all Prime members. Alongside its existing ICC tournament coverage of cricket, the platform will also offer NBA League Pass subscriptions for those wanting access to more matches. ESPN became available to Australian Disney+ subscribers in March, including live NBA and MLB coverage. Disney+ has secured the European rights to the Women's Champions League, although the Australian broadcast partner is still to be confirmed. Stan and 9Gem will broadcast the men's Champions League final between Paris Saint-Germain and Internazionale starting at 5am AEST on Sunday 1 June.
