CPI(M) opposes second phase of land pooling for Amaravati

The CPI(M) has opposed the government's decision to acquire an additional 44,000 acres of land for the development of the capital city of Amaravati. In a statement on Wednesday, CPI(M) State secretary V. Srinivasa Rao said the government should withdraw this decision, calling it 'unnecessary, harmful, and driven by real estate interests' rather than genuine developmental needs. Even after pooling 34,000 acres of land 11 years ago, the capital construction remained incomplete. Without utilising the already acquired land effectively, planning a second phase of land pooling only added to the woes of the farmers and the poor, who had surrendered their lands with the hope of better opportunities, he said. Seeking to know the rationale behind constructing a new greenfield airport in Amaravati when an operational airport already existed at Gannavaram, Mr. Srinivasa Rao said, 'This is not for development, but to serve real estate interests.' Instead of acquiring more land, the focus should be on improving existing infrastructure and ensuring the proper implementation of planned projects in the newly developed urban zones, he said. Highlighting the unused land bank already with the Andhra Pradesh Industrial Infrastructure Corporation (APIIC), he pointed out that despite having one lakh acres in reserve, not a single new industry had been established. 'This proves the government's failure to decentralise industrial development across the State,' he said. The Central and State governments had collectively failed to develop the Amaravati capital as promised in the A.P. Reorganisation Act. It accused the Centre of neglecting its responsibility to provide funds and blamed successive State governments for initiating grandiose but unfulfilled projects. 'After years of instability and suffering, the residents of Amaravati should not be subjected to further uncertainty,' he said, adding the government failed to provide basic amenities, promised plots, employment, and welfare benefits such as free education and healthcare to those who gave up their lands in the first phase.

Double-engine government has become a double burden on A.P., says CPI(M)

CPI(M) State secretary V. Srinivasa Rao launched a scathing attack on the NDA government's first year in office, calling it a 'year of upside-down governance' that has burdened common people while benefiting corporates. Addressing the media on Tuesday, Mr. Srinivasa Rao said that the double-engine government had failed to deliver on the promises and was instead running a 'double-burden government'. Key welfare schemes were neglected during the last one year. The govenrment has failed in ensuring the minimum wages and remunerative prices for farmers, and imposed a heavy burden on the people in the form of electricity bills, taxes, and administrative confusion. 'Despite claiming ₹9.4 lakh crore in investments through MoUs, there is no clarity on the industries or jobs generated,' he alleged. Mr. Srinivasa Rao criticised Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu for 'promoting outdated economic models' like GDP, ignoring the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) laid out by the United Nations. Andhra Pradesh ranks 10th among the States on SDG performance. Real development is not GDP alone, but sustainable and inclusive progress. Corporations are being favoured at the cost of workers and the unorganised sector, pointing to stagnant wages for 50 lakh workers and plummeting agricultural prices despite rising market rates. 'Even as ITC shares soar, tobacco farmers are denied fair prices,' he said. Referring to social welfare, the CPI(M) leader alleged irregularities in the 'Thalliki Vandanam' scheme and questioned the delay in delivering schemes such as Annadata Sukhibhava, unemployment allowance, and Stree Shakti funds. Referring to the issue of smart meters, he said that common people were being made to pay exorbitant bill amounts and urged the government to clarify whether it would continue legal cases filed by its own Ministers when they were in the opposition. Criticising the CM's governance style, he pointed to contradictions between statements made at TDP's Mahanadu and the so-called good governance meetings.

Jagan unfit to be in politics, says Bheemunipatnam MLA

Bheemunipatnam MLA Ganta Srinivasa Rao has criticised YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) president Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy, claiming that he is unfit to be in politics. The former Minister stated that a true politician should show qualities like compassion, empathy and concern for the public, but Mr. Jagan lacked any of these. Referring to the recent incident during Mr. Jagan's visit to Palnadu district, where an elderly man named Singaiah died after being run over by Mr. Jagan's convoy, Mr. Srinivasa Rao condemned the YSRCP's response. He said it was outrageous that the party leaders downplayed the tragedy by pointing out that the deceased was a YSRCP supporter, questioning why it should concern the TDP. Addressing the media at his residence on Tuesday, Mr. Srinivasa Rao stated that after five disastrous years under the YSRCP rule, the people delivered a strong verdict reducing the party to just 11 seats. Instead of assessing the reasons for the defeat and addressing public concerns, Mr. Jagan is again trying to create unrest in the State and gain public attention. The former Minister alleged that Mr. Jagan is now touring villages and inciting law and order issues, even causing deaths. These deaths should be treated as murders by the YSRCP president, he said. If this behaviour continues, Mr. Jagan could face even greater setbacks in the coming years, he noted. He expressed surprise at Mr. Jagan questioning whether the previous YSRCP government had caused any trouble for the TDP or the JSP leaders. He said the Jagan's administration had harassed Mr. N. Chandrababu Naidu, obstructed Mr. Pawan Kalyan's visit to Visakhapatnam, and interfered with Mr. Nara Lokesh's 'Praja Galam' yatra.
