John Stamos had this to say about Karen Read trial at Beach Boys show

Apparently, "Uncle Jessie" has been following the Karen Read trial too. During a June 10 performance with the Beach Boys in Lowell, Massachusetts, actor John Stamos of "Full House" fame said he had invited Karen Read, the woman accused of killing Boston Police officer John O'Keefe, but she didn't show up. "I'm addicted to the trial," Stamos said. Stamos is an avowed true crime fan, according to CNN reporting. Stamos didn't make his position clear on whether he thought Read was guilty or innocent and played the invitation comment off like a joke. The crowd roared at the reference in acknowledgement. Stamos is not an official member of the Beach Boys, but he has played with the band for about the last 40 years as a special guest, as he says in the clip. According to ABC News reporting, Stamos delivered the news of the Beach Boy Brian Wilson's recent passing to bandmate and cousin Mike Love. "It's absolutely heartbreaking," Stamos said to ABC. The 12-person panel began deliberating Friday, June 13 on the three charges against Read: second-degree murder, vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated, and leaving the scene of a collision resulting in death. The jury continued deliberating as of June 16 at 4 p.m. Karissa Waddick contributed to the reporting of this story. Rin Velasco is a trending reporter. John Stamos Says He Broke the News of Brian Wilson's Death to Cousin and Beach Boys Vocalist Mike Love: ‘His Face Went Blank'

John Stamos, who has been an honorary Beach Boy for 40 years, said he was the one to break the news of Brian Wilson's death to his cousin and the band's vocalist, Mike Love. 'I was with Mike, I got off the plane, and I got the text,' Stamos told the New York Post at the Songwriters Hall of Fame induction ceremony on Thursday at the Marriott Marquis. 'I was like, 'Oh boy, I guess I better [tell him].' I said, 'Mike, your cousin passed away,' and his face went blank.' The 'Full House' actor added, 'We sat in the car for 2½ hours or so … he didn't say one word. And I didn't ask him anything, ask him how he was feeling. I knew how he was feeling.' Stamos reflected on the connection between the two original Beach Boys members: You know, they had 80-plus years together. They made beautiful music together.' Love co-founded the band with his cousins Brian, Dennis, and Carl Wilson, and friend Al Jardine in 1961. Brian was also a lead singer, but he left the iconic California band in 1964. He briefly returned in the '80s. Stamos first played with the Beach Boys at a Fourth of July concert at the Washington Monument in 1985. 'This July 4th will be 40 years of nagging them and stalking them,' he told the Post. The actor said he was lucky to have 'spent a good amount of time' with Wilson, recalling the time when the late music legend stepped in for Love. 'We were doing some shows in Montreal, I was with them, and Mike couldn't make about five shows,' he said. 'And so Brian came out, and he's the lead singer of the band … and it was great.' 'Without Brian Wilson, life would be a mistake,' Stamos added. 'It's been a big blow to all of us.' John Stamos says he was with Mike Love when they learned of Brian Wilson's death

John Stamos is sharing how he learned of the news of Beach Boys' co-founder Brian Wilson's death. In a brief conversation with Entertainment Tonight while on the red carpet for the Songwriters Hall of Fame gala, Stamos got choked up when he recalled getting a text with the news of Wilson's passing while he was with Wilson's bandmate and cousin, Mike Love. 'Mike and I were together when I got the text, and I had to tell him,' Stamos said through tears. 'Without Brian Wilson, life would be a mistake.' 'I mean, his music has been part of my DNA,' Stamos wrote. 'And the beauty and the happiness and the joy and the optimism and the positivity that I've gotten from their music has made who I am.' 'You know, one of my greatest honors is when someone comes up and says, 'Oh, I got turned on to the Beach Boys because of you and 'Full House,'' Stamos shared. The actor and the band often collaborated via the hit sitcom in the 80s and 90s and continued their relationship over the last several decades. 'It's the greatest gift that I could have given back to them,' Stamos, who will be performing with the Beach Boys at The Town Hall in New York City, continued. 'Tomorrow will be our first show since Brian's gone,' he said, referring to the performance. 'I don't know how we're gonna get through it. You know, 'God Only Knows' starts playing, you know, but we'll get through it, and we have to, you know, for Brian.' 'I think, obviously, the rest of this summer, the rest of the live shows forever, I think will be dedicated to Brian Wilson, and will be a tribute to him.' Wilson's family confirmed the news of his death in a statement shared on X on Wednesday, June 11. Alongside a photo of Wilson, the statement read, 'We are heartbroken to announced (sic) that our beloved father Brian Wilson has passed away. We are at a loss for words right now. 'Please respect our privacy at this time as our family (is) grieving. We realize that we are sharing our grief with the world,' it continued, before the family signed off, writing, 'Love & Mercy.' Wilson made up one-fifth of the popular rock group known as the Beach Boys, which also included his brothers Dennis and Carl Wilson, their cousin, Mike Love, and their friend, Al Jardine. Wilson founded the band in 1961, and the group skyrocketed to fame following the release of their first single 'Surfin'' released that same year.

John Stamos told Beach Boys' Mike Love that Brian Wilson died: ‘He didn't say one word' for 2 hours

Wouldn't it be awful. That's how John Stamos felt having to break it to Mike Love that his Beach Boys bandmate — and cousin Brian Wilson — died at 82 on Wednesday. The 'Full House' actor, who has been an honorary Beach Boy playing drums and guitar with the band for 40 years, was traveling with Love when he received the heartbreaking news. Getty Images for Songwriters Hall Of Fame 'I was with Mike, I got off the plane, and I got the text,' Stamos, 61, exclusively told The Post on the red carpet of the Songwriters Hall of Fame induction ceremony on Thursday before he enshrined Love at New York's Marriott Marquis. 'I was like, 'Oh boy, I guess I better [tell him].' I said, 'Mike, your cousin passed away,' and his face went blank.' 'And we sat in the car for two and a half hours or so … he didn't say one word,' he continued. 'And I didn't ask him anything, ask him how he was feeling. I knew how he was feeling.' Advertisement Indeed, Stamos — having grown up idolizing the Beach Boys long before he got to know and play with the '60s trailblazers of the California sound — understood the profound loss that frontman Love, 84, was processing about the group's mastermind. 'You know, they had 80-plus years together,' he said. 'They made beautiful music together.' But Stamos shares in the collective grief that the world is feeling after the death of the 'God Only Knows' giant, one of pop's true visionaries who changed music as we know it. Stamos first played with the Beach Boys four decades ago at the Washington Monument on the Fourth of July in 1985. 'This July 4th will be 40 years of nagging them and stalking them,' he said. He helped introduce the Beach Boys to a new generation by featuring them on his TV sitcoms 'Full House' and 'You Again?' He also appeared in the video for their 1988 No. 1 hit 'Kokomo' and directed the clips for 1992's 'Hot Fun in the Summertime.' Stamos feels blessed to have 'spent a good amount of time' with Wilson, recalling one special trip to Montreal. 'We were doing some shows in Montreal, I was with them, and Mike couldn't make about five shows,' he said. 'And so Brian came out, and he's the lead singer of the band … and it was great.' Even more magic happened behind the scenes, though. 5 'I think this is long overdue,' said John Stamos of inducting Beach Boys' Mike Love into the Songwriters Hall of Fame. Disney General Entertainment Content via Getty Images 'We were at Four Seasons in Montreal, and one night he says, 'Let's go find a piano,' ' he said. 'And so we couldn't find one, and we broke in the ballroom. There's a piano in there, and he sat for two and a half hours, and he played any song we requested.' In fact, Stamos marveled, 'He starts writing a song!' Advertisement While noting that Wilson — who had a history of mental health and substance abuse problems — was 'complicated, obviously' — Stamos shared that he also had 'a wry sense of humor.' 5 Beach Boys Carl Wilson (left), Bruce Johnston and Brian Wilson appeared with John Stamos on 'Full House' in 1988. Disney General Entertainment Content via Getty Images Reflecting on inducting Love — who co-wrote Beach Boys classics such as 'I Get Around,' 'California Girls' and 'Good Vibrations' with Wilson — into the Songwriters Hall of Fame, Stamos said, 'You know, if you would have told me I'd be here tonight … I don't know what I did right in some past life or something.' He continued, 'I've had a lot of honors in my life, a lot of good things, but this is maybe the greatest honor of my life, to be able to give this to him tonight. I think this is long overdue, Mike getting into the Songwriters Hall of Fame. ' Advertisement And for Stamos, the Beach Boys' music is more necessary than ever six decades — and sixtysomething summers — later. 'Decency is at an all time low, and discord at an all time high,' he said, 'and we've never needed the Beach Boys music more.'

Mike Love celebrates Brian Wilson and George Clinton shines at 2025 Songwriters Hall of Fame

NEW YORK (AP) — The Beach Boys' Mike Love was inducted into the 2025 Songwriters Hall of Fame on Thursday night, just one day after it was announced that his inimitable bandmate Brian Wilson had died. The actor — and lifelong Beach Boys fan — John Stamos introduced him. 'There are songs that don't just play on the radio,' Stamos said in his speech. 'Mike Love is a songwriter's songwriter.' Stamos recalled asking Love, 'Which songs did you write, again?' Love's response: 'I only wrote the hits.' Love's speech was filled with gratitude, with one of his greatest thanks reserved for 'my cousin, Brian Wilson,' he said. 'My first cousin by blood and my brother in music.' Stamos then joined Love for a few Beach Boys' classics: 'California Girl,' 'I Get Around,' 'Kokomo,' and 'Good Vibrations.' It was a notable moment in an evening full of them: The funk rock group Living Colour opened the energetic gala with a cover of Funkadelic's 'Cosmic Slop' to honor new inductee George Clinton. The annual event, held at the Marriott Marquis Hotel in New York City Thursday night, also featured inductees spanning genre, an inspiring mix of funk, rock, R&B, country and beyond: George Clinton, The Doobie Brothers, Ashley Gorley, Rodney 'Darkchild' Jerkins and Tony Macaulay. 'What an incredible honor this is,' Clinton said in his speech. He talked about his early days in the legendary Brill Building song factory, which he described like going 'into Oz.' Being a songwriter, to him, required 'consistent effort.' He then jumped into a performance of his own: The Parliaments' '(I Wanna) Testify.' Country legend Garth Brooks introduced the Doobie Brothers with a raucous rendition of 'Long Train Runnin'' into 'China Grove.' When it was time for the inducted members — Tom Johnston, Michael McDonald and Patrick Simmons — to take the stage, they brought their rootsy rock 'n' roll, kicking off with 'Black Water.' Teddy Riley introduced the groundbreaking producer Rodney 'Darkchild' Jerkins, whose touch is heard across countless R&B and pop hits. His speech included an animated impression of Clive Davis and a story about Jerkins' father borrowing $1,200 against his life insurance to get him an '80s sampler, the MPC3000, so he could follow his dreams. 'I didn't grow up chasing fame,' he said. 'I grew up chasing feeling ... Creativity has no limitations.' His four children, R.J., Heavenly, Hannah Joy and Royal Jerkins, performed one of his best-known hits, Brandy and Monica's 'The Boy Is Mine.' It was a night for families: Country songwriter superstar Ashley Gorley's daughter also performed one of her dad's originals, Trace Adkins' 'You're Gonna Miss This.' Dan + Shay also performed a medley of Gorley's hits in his honor, including Morgan Wallen's 'Last Night,' Carrie Underwood's 'All-American Girl' and Post Malone and Wallen's 2024 summertime smash 'I Had Some Help.' When Gorley took the stage for his speech, he said he felt like he was in a 'fever dream' or that he has 'crashed a royal wedding.' Legendary English songwriter Tony Macaulay was also honored. He is best known for such classics as The Foundations' 'Baby Now That I've Found You' and 'Build Me Up Buttercup,' the latter of which was performed for Macaulay by a spirited Debbie Gibson. Musical theater composer Stephen Schwartz was the recipient of the esteemed Johnny Mercer Award; Kristin Chenoweth performed 'For Good' from 'Wicked' in his honor. Gracie Abrams received the eminent Hal David Starlight Award. Last year's inductees included Steely Dan, R.E.M., Timbaland, Hillary Lindsey and Dean Pitchford. At the induction ceremony last summer, R.E.M. stunned attendees by reuniting for an acoustic version of their alt-rock hit, 'Losing My Religion.' The Songwriters Hall of Fame was established in 1969 to honor those creating popular music. A songwriter with a notable catalog of songs qualifies for induction 20 years after the first commercial release of a song. Some already in the hall include Gloria Estefan, Carole King, Paul Simon, Billy Joel, Jon Bon Jovi and Richie Sambora, Elton John and Bernie Taupin, Brian Wilson, James Taylor, Bruce Springsteen, Tom Petty, Lionel Richie, Bill Withers, Neil Diamond and Phil Collins.
