Minorities panel seeks completion of SAT Hospital's Mother-Child Block by December 2025
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: State Minorities Commission chairman advocate A A Rasheed has directed authorities to expedite and complete the remaining work of the Mother and Child Block at the Sree Avittam Thirunal Hospital (SAT) in Thiruvananthapuram by December 2025. The directive came during a special sitting held at the Commission headquarters on Monday, following a newspaper report highlighting that the building, inaugurated years ago, is still not fully operational. A report submitted to the Commission by the Health Department Secretary, District Collector, Director of Medical Education, Principal of the Medical College, and SAT Hospital Superintendent revealed that while the construction of two floors was completed and handed over to the hospital in 2017, only the ground floor, housing the gynaecology outpatient section, is currently in use. Authorities informed the Commission that KIIFB has approved funds to the tune of Rs 11.23 crore for the remaining works, including a ramp, fire staircase, site development etc. The tender process has already been initiated. The SAT Hospital Superintendent stated that the pending works are expected to commence within two weeks and would be completed in eight months.

CM Stalin inaugurates 729 houses for Sri Lankan Tamils in five districts
CHENNAI: Chief Minister MK Stalin on Monday inaugurated 729 houses built at a cost of Rs 38.76 crore for Sri Lankan Tamils living in Sri Lankan rehabilitation camps in Keezhputhupattu (Villupuram district); Thirumurthi Nagar (Tiruppur district); Thammampatti (Salem district); Nagavathi dam and Kesaikuli dam (Dharmapuri district); and Kandiyapuram (Virudhunagar district). A release said the CM had announced that 7,469 new houses will be built instead of old houses for Lankan Tamils in 26 districts. In the first phase, orders were issued for building 3,510 houses in 35 camps located in 19 districts. Already, 2,781 houses have been handed over to the Tamils in 32 camps in 18 districts. Stalin also inaugurated additional buildings for the Dharmapuri collectorate and office buildings for taluk offices in various districts, built at a total cost of Rs 54.80 crore, through video conference. Members of the State Minorities Commission called on Stalin on Monday and thanked him for granting financial assistance to the members of the Buddhist, Jain and Sikh communities to undertake pilgrimage to their holy places.

T.N. CM Stalin inaugurates 700 new housing units for Sri Lankan Tamils
Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin on Monday (July 7, 2025) virtually inaugurated over 700 new housing units for the benefit of Sri Lankan Tamils living in the State. These units have been constructed at a total cost of ₹38 crore. In line with the Chief Minister's previous announcement that over 7,400 new housing units would be constructed for the welfare of Sri Lankan Tamils, these units were constructed at 67 camps in 26 districts across the State. In the first phase, over 3,500 units were constructed and were handed over to beneficiaries at 32 camps in 18 districts. In continuation, the Chief Minister on Monday virtually inaugurated 729 units constructed in Salem, Dharmapuri, Tiruppur, Villupuram, and Virudhunagar districts. Mr. Stalin also virtually inaugurated new buildings constructed for the Revenue and Disaster Management Department at a total cost of ₹54 crore in various locations across the State. Ministers K.K.S.S.R. Ramachandran and S.M. Nasar, Chief Secretary N. Muruganandam, and senior officials were present on the occasion in the Secretariat. State Minorities Commission thanks CM In another event, members of the State Minorities Commission called on the Chief Minister and thanked him for the State government providing financial assistance to certain religious minorities, namely Buddhists, Jains, and Sikhs, for their pilgrimages. As the State government introduced self-certification under the Directorate of Town and Country Planning, functioning under the Housing and Urban Development Department, some beneficiaries who obtained self-certification called on Mr. Stalin and thanked the government for the new initiative. Representatives of the Confederation of Real Estate Developers Association of India (CREDAI) also met the Chief Minister and thanked him for the release of the 'Coimbatore Master Plan 2041' document, as well as key initiatives by the Housing and Urban Development Department.
