Nick Woltemade reaches agreement with next club after Chelsea approach

Chelsea are set to miss out on Stuttgart striker Nick Woltemade as he has agreed to join Bayern Munich, according to reports in Germany. The 23-year-old joined Stuttgart on a free transfer last summer and turned out to be one of the best signings in the Bundesliga as he scored 12 goals last season. Woltemade has now taken that form into the European Under-21 Championship this summer as he has found the net six times for Germany, who play England in the final on Saturday night. Earlier this month, Bild reported that Chelsea have been monitoring Woltemade's performances for Stuttgart and have held talks with the striker's representatives. However, Sky Germany reported this week that Woltemade has now verbally agreed to join Bayern Munich this summer. Stuttgart, who finished ninth in the Bundesliga and won the DFB Pokal last season, are said to be upset by Bayern's direct approach for their striker, who still has three years remaining on his contract. 'The fact that this development hasn't gone unnoticed by others and that we now read about interest from other clubs almost every day doesn't change the fact that Nick's journey with us is far from over,' Stuttgart's sporting director, Fabian Wohlgemuth, said this week. 'We are firmly planning with Nick and want to benefit from his athletic qualities in the coming year as well. There is no alternative planning scenario for this.' Kicker reported on Saturday that Bayern had hoped to secure a deal for around €50 million (£42.7m), but Stuttgart are demanding a package worth €100m (£85.4m). When asked about Bayern's reported approach for Woltemade this week, the German club's president, Herbert Hainer, said: 'All I can say is that Nick Woltemade has developed well at Stuttgart and that we as Germany fans are happy he is playing for the Under-21s and scoring many goals. 'He's playing a very, very good season. But whether he'll ever play for Bayern is written in the stars.' Bayern's sporting director, Christoph Freund, also said this week: 'Nick is playing very well. He's a player who's very interesting.' More Trending On Friday, Woltemade refused to answer questions about his future when asked about his link with a move to Bayern. 'We're playing a final tomorrow, that's the only focus,' Woltemade said. 'There are always things happening around you. It doesn't just affect me, but the others too. 'This is the only chance in my life to win the Under-21 title and I want to do it.' For more stories like this, check our sport page. Reports: Leverkusen after PSV's Tillman after Wirtz exit

Germany's Florian Wirtz (L) and France's Manu Kone stand on the pitch after the UEFA Nations League soccer match between Germany and France at Stuttgart Arena. Federico Gambarini/dpa Bundesliga runners-up Bayer Leverkusen are reportedly out to sign midfielder Malik Tillman from PSV Eindhoven. German sports magazine Kicker and Dutch paper Eindhoven Dagblad said that Tillman could cost Bayer up to €40 million ($46.8 million). He is said to receive a five-year contract in Leverkusen who are now coached by Dutchman Erik ten Hag. Advertisement Tillman, 23, is said to have a release clause in his contract but there appear to be uncertainties about its activation. The attacking midfielder came to PSV on loan from Bayern Munich in 2023 and was later signed permenantly. He is currently playing with the United States national team at the regional Gold Cup championship in the US. In Leverkusen, Tillman would fill the void left by Florian Wirtz who has left for Liverpool in a deal that could be worth up to €150 million.

Is 16 Old Enough to Race? Porsche Thinks So

Just three weeks after turning sixteen, Porsche puts Elia Weiss behind the wheel of a purpose-built electric race car Three weeks after you turned sixteen, what were you doing? If you're like me, maybe you were trying to figure out something about a car. More likely, you were fantasizing about your favorite cars while playing Forza or Gran Turismo. What you probably weren't doing was driving an actual Porsche race car on an actual racetrack. But that's exactly what Italian kart and Formula 4 racer Elia Weiss will be doing. 0:08 / 0:09 Meet the ultimate Audi RS 6 Avant: Only 85 are coming to the U.S. Watch More Elia Weiss Weiss kart racing Weiss will be driving a 99X Electric in the upcoming Formula E rookie test. The single-seat car, specially designed for Formula E, accelerates from zero to 100 km/h quicker than an F1 car — around two seconds, the automaker says. The rookie test is a race featuring untested, usually younger, Formula E drivers, with the goal of both exposing newcomers to Formula E and gaining valuable experience. Stuttgart is making history by choosing Weiss as their driver, with the second-youngest driver in Formula E history being chosen last year by McLaren, at 17 years old. Considering that 16 is the minimum age allowed by the DMSB, this is an accolade Weiss will hold forever. For reference, the average age of a Formula E driver hovers around 31. Although Weiss may be young, he's got a fair bit of experience making things go quickly around a racetrack. Weiss won the German karting championship title just last year and conducts sim racing tests with OEMs like Audi, BMW, and Porsche. Further padding his resume is his upcoming participation in Italian Formula 4. The rookie says he has already practiced a bit with the Formula E car in a simulator. 'I was able to get to know the systems, felt right at home there, and got on really well with the engineers. Other than that, I'm preparing myself as best I can.' He goes on to drive home the importance of fitness and strength when piloting the rapidly accelerating Formula E cars. Porsche's decision has left critics a bit puzzled. What does Weiss offer? You aren't alone if you're wondering how Weiss got a gig like this. According to The Race, a few Porsche bigwigs noticed Weiss two years ago at the Karting World Cup finals. The publication raises some solid questions, though: most other Formula E rookie test programs are utilizing older drivers, and certainly racers with a few more competitions under their belts. 'The energy management [of Formula E cars] is complex, which means that the mental challenges in particular are incredibly tough in Formula E. This reduces the pool of potential drivers.' Thinking about regen and energy usage, according to Modlinger, isn't a skill every racer has. 'While he was a guest in our simulator, we were particularly impressed by how he interacted with the engineers,' he says of Weiss. He goes on to say that the 16-year-old 'comes across as a much more mature racing driver.' Final thoughts Experience is just one component of victory on the track. Especially in a budding motorsport like Formula E, there are other variables OEMs and teams need to account for when choosing drivers. All eyes will definitely be on Weiss come the July rookie test, especially with rival teams placing older and more experienced drivers in the same position. About the Author Steven Paul View Profile

Reports: Stuttgart demanding €100 million for Woltemade

Germany's Nick Woltemade celebrates his side's second goal of the game during the UEFA European Under-21 Championship semi-final soccer match between Germany and France at Kosice Football Arena. Robert Nemeti/dpa VfB Stuttgart are demanding a transfer fee of €100 million ($117.2 million) for striker Nick Woltemade, according to media reports. The Kicker sports magazine said that Stuttgart officials are only prepared "to sit down at the negotiating table at all" for this sum. Advertisement The player has a contract with Stuttgart until 2028, but the Bild newspaper and broadcasters Sky recently said that Woltemade's management rejected a renewal. They said he has reached an agreement with Munich should a summer transfer be possible. Reports said that talks between the clubs could start next week, but Bayern were expecting a transfer fee in the region of €50 million. Woltemade, 23, came to Stuttgart a year ago from Werder Bremen and has had exceptional weeks lately. He helped Stuttgart win the German Cup, scoring five goals in the competition along with 12 in the Bundesliga. He can add another title on Saturday if Germany beat England in the under-21 Euros final in Slovakia where Woltemade is tournament top scorer with six goals. The good form also earned him the first two senior Germany caps at the Nations League finals in early June.
