1 held, narcotic pills recovered in Jind
Jind: In a crackdown on drug traffickers, the crime investigation agency (CIA) of Narwana town in Jind district apprehended a drug peddler along with a large quantity of sedative pills. The arrested accused has been identified as Keshav Gandhi, a resident of Pada Mohalla in Rohtak district. Based on secret information, a team led by sub-inspector Sukhdev Singh, in-charge, CIA staff, Narwana, arrested Keshav Gandhi and recovered a large quantity of alprazolam tablets from his possession, said the police. To curb drug trafficking , a team of CIA was stationed under the over-bridge in Jai Jai Vanti village in Julana town. The team received a tip-off that accused Keshav Gandhi, involved in selling narcotic tablets, was present near Sonia International School with a large consignment of drugs, said Sukhdev Singh. The CIA team immediately conducted a raid near the school, apprehending the accused along with a scooter, he said, adding that in presence of gazetted officer Subrata Sharma, ETO, Jind, the team searched the accused and recovered 6,000 alprazolam tablets packed in 10 cardboard boxes from his possession. A case was registered against the accused under Sections 22C/61/85 of the NDPS Act at police station Julana and further legal proceedings are underway, he added. MSID:: 122955080 413 |

Drug peddler held with 265 gm heroin in Ludhiana
Ludhiana: Ludhiana Rural police arrested a drug peddler with 265 grams of heroin in the Dhaipai village area. The accused was identified as Varinderpal Singh Binder from Jassowal village in Dehlon. Police officials said ASI Sukhdev Singh, along with his colleagues, was present at the bus stand in Khandur village for patrolling and was checking suspicious men. They added that around 4.15pm, the police received a tip-off that the accused was involved in selling heroin outside the bus stand in Dhapai village. Acting on it, the police party raided the spot and apprehended the accused with the heroin consignment. They added that the police booked the accused under sections of the NDPS Act at Jodhan police station. Police sources said they are trying to determine where the accused obtained the drug consignment and to whom it was intended. Shots fired as Punjab village drug chase ends in violence; 2 cops, 3 villagers injured
Jalandhar: A police operation to catch an alleged drug peddler spiralled into violence in a village in Punjab's Hoshiarpur district on Tuesday night, leaving two cops injured and three villagers with bullet 'splinter' wounds. A police team, responding to a drug complaint received on their helpline, was allegedly attacked in Ghaaia village, Dasuya, 200km from Chandigarh, leading to the registration of a case against the village sarpanch, her husband, a former sarpanch, and 25 others on attempted-murder and other charges. According to the FIR, ASI Sarabjit Singh and head constable Sukhdev Singh arrived in the village after an alert received at 8.30pm that one Sukhwinder Singh was selling heroin in the area. The ASI said he contacted former sarpanch Bhupinder Singh, whose wife Kuldeep Kaur currently holds the sarpanch position. "When I asked about the person selling drugs in the village, Bhupinder replied that it was none of my business," the ASI says in the FIR, alleging that when he began to film an inebriated Bhupinder, he was assaulted, and his mobile phone thrown away. Two residents, Niranjan Singh and Harwinder Singh, tried to snatch his service pistol, says the FIR. "During the scuffle, four bullets got fired from my pistol. They hit the ground and then struck the feet and legs of the accused," he stated. Head constable Sukhdev Singh was also allegedly beaten and injured. Police filed a case against Kuldeep Kaur, Bhupinder, five other named individuals, and 20 unidentified people. Charges include attempt to murder, voluntarily causing hurt to deter a public servant from performing official duty, and obstructing a public servant in the discharge of public function. Dasuya DSP Balwinder Jaura confirmed that the two injured officers are being treated at Dasuya Civil Hospital, while three villagers sustained injuries from bullet splinters.

Punjab: Mother-son duo among 3 held with 2kg heroin, pistols
The Ferozepur police arrested three individuals, including a mother-son duo, and seized 2kg of heroin along with two illegal firearms on Wednesday, officials said. The accused have been identified as Sukhdev Singh alias Sunny (24), a resident of Munawa in Moga district; his mother, Sarabjeet Kaur and Jaswinder Singh alias Liaqat. (HT File) Giving details, senior superintendent of police Bhupinder Singh Sidhu said that further investigation into the backward and forward linkages in a June 16 case where police had seized 9.4kg of heroin and ₹2.10 lakh in drug money led to the busting of this drug network. 'The accused have been identified as Sukhdev Singh alias Sunny (24), a resident of Munawa in Moga district; his mother, Sarabjeet Kaur and Jaswinder Singh alias Liaqat. All were arrested from Zira,' the SSP said. Cops seized 2kg of heroin, a motorcycle, two pistols (.30 bore), 12 live cartridges (.30 bore), and 40 cartridges (.32 bore) from the accused possession. A case has been registered against the accused under relevant sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act and the Arms Act at the city police station, Zira. 'Further investigation is underway to identify and apprehend more members of the network,' the SSP said.
