Eight years of Smart City Mission ends, but Nashik city's parking woes remain
Nashik: The city's parking woes persist, despite the Smart City Mission concluding in March after eight years, during which the proposed on-street and off-street parking facilities at 32 locations failed to materialise. Resultantly, the city faces a growing parking crisis owing to a rapid increase in vehicles and lack of designated parking spaces, forcing vehicle owners to park on roadsides, causing traffic congestion during peak hours, especially in the old city area. Bhushan Gavande, a city resident, said parking was one of the major issues in the city as there were no parking spaces to park vehicles. "It becomes difficult when we go to market areas with family members. We have to park our vehicles somewhere and walk over 1km to the market. Hence, there is a need to start parking spaces in the city for the convenience of the residents," he said. In 2018, a private agency appointed by the Smart City firm launched "pay-n-park" facilities at 33 locations (28 on-street and 5 off-street) in phases. A trial for additional parking spaces began in Jan 2020, but the project was halted due to the Covid-19 pandemic. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Buy Brass Idols - Handmade Brass Statues for Home & Gifting Luxeartisanship Buy Now Undo Thereafter, the private agency concerned refused to operate the parking spaces, seeking an extension in the contract period by three years, a waiver of Rs 17.5 lakh royalty annually to the Nashik Municipal Corporation (NMC) and a hike in parking charges. The Smart City firm gave an extension of one-and-a-half years to the contract period because of the Covid pandemic, but refused any more extension. Besides, the Smart City corporation also refused to waive the royalty to NMC. Finally, the agency requested the authority to exit from the project. During a board meeting, the directorial board of the Smart City firm put the ball in the court of the NMC commissioner and told him to decide on the issue. Though five civic commissioners came and left during the three years, the parking issues remained unresolved. Around seven to eight months back, the Smart City corporation handed over the parking spaces to the civic body, but it is yet to be executed even by NMC. When contacted, Sumant More, CEO, Nashik Municipal Smart City Development Corporation Ltd, said the contractor concerned refused to operate parking spaces. "Hence, they transferred all the smart parking spaces to the civic body," More added. Follow more information on Air India plane crash in Ahmedabad here . Emergency operation centre at NMC HQ idle as Nashik city grapples with pre-monsoon fury
Nashik: The emergency operation centre at Rajiv Gandhi Bhavan, the Nashik Municipal Corporation 's headquarters, has remained idle for over a year amid delays in its handover from Nashik Municipal Smart City Development Corporation Ltd (NMSCDCL) to the civic body. Built at Rs 59 crore, the centre aimed to enhance disaster management capabilities, particularly during monsoons and the upcoming Simhastha Kumbh Mela. "CCTV cameras and a public address system (PAS) have been integrated with the emergency operation centre to facilitate NMC in tackling situations during any emergencies or disasters," an official said. Unseasonal rain has been lashing Nashik city for the past fortnight, during which around 250 trees were uprooted and branches of another 200 trees fell. The city also experienced waterlogging at around 210 locations amid NMC's failure to undertake pre-monsoon works like cleaning the stormwater lines and nullahs. "At this juncture, the emergency operations centre at Rajiv Gandhi Bhavan could have helped NMC in tackling the situation if it were operational," an official said. NMSCDCL CEO Sumant More said the emergency operation centre was ready. "We are in the process of handing over the centre to NMC. It will take a couple of weeks to complete the process."

Ten private firms in race for Nashik's Rs 100cr optical fibre network project
Nashik: Ten private firms from Mumbai, Hyderabad, Bengaluru, Pune and other cities participated in a pre-bid meeting organised recently by the Nashik Municipal Smart City Development Corporation Ltd (NMSCDCL). These firms have shown interest in the Rs 100 crore optical fibre cable (OFC) project to be implemented by the body in Nashik city and Trimbakeshwar town ahead of upcoming Simhastha Kumbh Mela. In addition, three other firms from Nashik also participated in the meeting. Around 350km of OFC lines, including 300km in Nashik city and 50km in Trimbakeshwar town, are to be laid to help authorities boost digital security and connectivity during the religious conglomeration. NMSCDCL already issued a request for proposal (RFP) for laying the OFC lines, along with installation, testing, commissioning, operations and maintenance. The last date for filing the bid is May 20. "We already floated the RFP for the OFC network project. We also conducted a pre-bid meeting on Friday. Ten private firms from across the country participated. They had some technical queries and also wanted information about the terms and conditions of the project. We provided all the information they wanted," said Sumant More, CEO of NMSCDCL. "We expect to complete the tender process and allot a work order to the eligible private firm so that the work for the project will begin by the end of June. We set the target of laying OFC lines within 15 months from the day of allotting the work order to the private firm concerned," said More. The OFC lines will connect the offices of all authorities, police stations, and hospitals, integrating all the CCTVs through command-and-control centres. This will enable the authorities to implement Internet of Things (IoT)-based safety projects and sensors during the Kumbh Mela to maintain security and manage the huge crowd. Around 1,300 CCTVs have already been installed in Nashik city, while another 3,500 CCTVs are to be installed in view of the upcoming Simhastha Kumbh Mela. These will be connected through the OFC lines and go online through the command and controlling centres and emergency operations centre.

Nashik city & Trimbakaeshwar to get 100crore optical fibre network
Nashik: The city and the Trimbakeshwar town are set to get an optical fibre cable (OFC) network to boost digital security and connectivity ahead of the Simhastha Kumbh Mela. According to Nashik Municipal Smart City Development Corporation Limited (NMSCDCL), a total of 350km of lines will be laid in Nashik city (300km) and Trimbakeshwar town (50km) to help the authorities maintain seamless network during the Kumbh Mela. NMSCDCL has issued a request for proposal for laying the OFC lines, including their installation, testing, commissioning, operations and maintenance. "We expect the tender process to be completed by May-end.
