Taiwan plans AI projects to boost economy by $510 billion
TAIPEI :Taiwan plans to launch its "Ten Major AI Infrastructure Projects" initiative, aimed at generating more than T$15 trillion ($510 billion) in economic value by 2040 as it strives to become a global leader in artificial intelligence. Premier Cho Jung-tai said in a Facebook post late on Tuesday that Taiwan aims to leverage its information and communications technology (ICT) sector and world-leading semiconductor manufacturing capabilities to become a global AI influencer and a "smart technology island." Under the initiative, Taiwan has identified three core technologies as strategic priorities: silicon photonics, quantum technology and AI robotics. Silicon photonics is a technology that Taiwan's TSMC, the world's largest contract chipmaker, and many other firms in the industry are actively developing. The government aims to position Taiwan as a global leader in silicon photonics by aligning the sector with future AI development needs. Taiwan also hopes to become a key hub for AI robotics by tapping its hardware and ICT supply chains. Industry groups, including one led by Foxconn Chairman Young Liu, have backed the move with the formation of the Taiwan AI Robotics Industry Grand Alliance on Tuesday to support the local development of AI robotics and related ecosystems. Taiwan also plans to establish a quantum technology industry chain. The 10 projects also include the development of sovereign AI - ability to build and control domestic AI technologies - and computing infrastructure, efforts to balance AI development across different regions of the island, and the introduction of AI across a wide range of industries. The government also calls for expanding investment in AI innovation, with more than T$100 billion ($3.08 billion) in venture capital funding, as it seeks to become a global hub for AI talent and investment. The initiative targets the creation of 500,000 jobs and the establishment of three international-level research laboratories.

Wel-Bloom Biotech Launches Wel-ROS6. Black Crystal Roselle Sparks a Surge in High-Concentration Anthocyanins
Black Crystal Roselle Anthocyanin Levels Surge 17.7x — Wel-Bloom Biotech Elevates Taiwan's Global Ingredient Competitiveness Black Crystal Roselle Shakes Up the Anthocyanin Market with 17.7x Natural Concentration Taiwan's Black Crystal Roselle Emerges as a Key Player in the Anthocyanin and Health Markets Anthocyanin Levels Surge in Black Crystal Roselle — Spotlight on Key Ingredient Wel-ROS6 Wel-ROS6 in Black Crystal Roselle Raises the Bar for Health Supplements TAIPEI, TAIWAN - Media OutReach Newswire - 22 July 2025 - Taiwan's leading jelly supplement manufacturer, Wel-Bloom Biotech, recently co-hosted an anthocyanin-focused seminar with LEARN EATiNG, one of the most renowned nutritionist teams in Taiwan. The event highlighted trending international ingredients alongside Taiwan's own Black Crystal Roselle. Attracting around 300 nutrition professionals both online and onsite, the seminar reflected strong industry interest and high expectations for the future of anthocyanin innovation. In recent years, the health supplement market has seen rapid growth, accompanied by a shift in consumer priorities. Today's consumers increasingly believe that "choosing the right ingredients matters more than simply taking more," a mindset that is driving innovation in ingredient formulation. According to the 2024 Top 30 Dietary Trends Report, there is growing interest in the synergistic effects of ingredient combinations. For instance, pairing anthocyanins with fish oil offers comprehensive support for overall health, while combining them with collagen enhances beauty and skin wellness. The Black Crystal Roselle, grown locally in Taiwan, contains naturally high levels of anthocyanins and has recently drawn growing interest in the health supplement field for its promising nutritional potential. As one of the keynote speakers, Wel-Bloom Biotech introduced Wel-ROS6®—a proprietary botanical ingredient derived from Black Crystal Roselle. Developed using triple-patented technology, it is cultivated through natural farming methods and smallholder contract farming to ensure consistent quality and traceability. Laboratory data shows that Wel-ROS6® contains 17.7 times more total anthocyanins than standard commercial roselle. Additionally, total phenolic acids and flavonoids are elevated by 1.9 times and 1.3 times, respectively—highlighting its rich phytochemical profile and high functional value. (See Note 1) The event also featured the Food Industry Research and Development Institute's newly proposed "Food Value Equation": Value = (Sensory Perception × Functional Technology × User Experience) × Amplification Multiplier. This formula highlights the importance of balancing sensory appeal, technological innovation, and user experience—emphasizing that all three elements are essential to creating meaningful value in food products. To meet growing consumer demands for convenience and palatability in health supplements, product development is increasingly focused on factors such as absorption efficiency, flavor optimization, and sustainable sourcing. The rise of "tasty" health products reflects a major trend in preventive wellness—perfectly aligned with today's mindset of "eating less, supplementing smarter." Through its one-stop CDMO (Contract Development and Manufacturing Organization) services, Taiwan's local agriculture can now be transformed from raw materials into globally market-ready products that seamlessly integrate into everyday life. Wel-ROS6®, backed by the support of over 300 health professionals, will be featured alongside other cutting-edge botanical ingredients at the 2025 BIO Asia–Taiwan Exhibition and Vitafoods Asia. We warmly invite you to visit our booth and explore partnership opportunities with Wel-Bloom Biotech to co-create the next generation of best-selling health supplements. Ken Chu gets candid about F4 reunion, Barbie Hsu's death and selling her ex's products
TAIPEI, July 19 — Taiwanese singer-actor Ken Chu has spoken out after facing backlash for promoting products linked to Wang Xiaofei, the ex-husband of the late actress Barbie Hsu. The 46-year-old, who rose to fame as a member of the iconic boy band F4, addressed the criticism during a Douyin livestream on Wednesday. He also reflected on his recent reunion with his bandmates — Jerry Yan, Vic Chou and Vanness Wu — during Mayday's concert on July 12, as well as his deep affection for Hsu, their Meteor Garden co-star who died earlier this year. Hsu, who played female lead Shan Cai in the 2001 drama that catapulted F4 to stardom, died on February 2 at age 48. According to AsiaOne, Chu became visibly emotional while discussing her, pausing to collect himself before saying: 'She was in the lives of the four of us, right? Everyone talks about the wheel of fate. I believe that among the four of us, we each had our own methods of loving her when we were younger.' Chu revealed he had hesitated to take part in the reunion due to his declining health, admitting, 'I age 1.5 times faster than a normal person.' He added that if he didn't join the band within the year or next, he might not be able to keep up physically. Still, it was his enduring gratitude for F4 and his affection for Hsu that ultimately convinced him: 'It's because of the love and passion I received over the years, and because of Barbie.' The livestream also saw Chu address criticism over his decision to sell Ma Liu Ji instant hot and sour noodle soup — a food brand owned by Wang Xiaofei and his mother Zhang Lan — during his online sales shows. Online users had questioned his support for the brand, given the legal disputes between Wang and Hsu before her death. But Chu was unbothered. 'Why can't I sell it?' he said bluntly. 'To be honest, I really hope Wang Xiaofei earns a lot of money, if not, who would take care of his two children?' Hsu and Wang, who divorced in 2021, shared two children, Hsi-yueh, 11, and Hsi-lin, nine. In the years leading up to the actress' passing, the former couple were embroiled in several lawsuits, including allegations of defamation and breaches of privacy. Chu had briefly addressed his position in 2023, saying during another livestream: 'I think it's quite awkward to say this... but my liking for this brand has no relation to any trending news. I just feel that this brand is honest in their products, taste well and I wanted to recommend it to everyone.'
