‘Ghost guns' discovered after GA man found ‘slumped over' in driver's seat, deputies say
Deputies said a business checkup led to a man facing multiple charges. [DOWNLOAD: Free WSB-TV News app for alerts as news breaks] On May 26, Twiggs County deputies were conducting business checks around 4 a.m. Deputies said at that time they spotted a 2020 Chrysler 300 parked at the Marathon gas station on Sgoda Road, with someone 'slumped' over in the driver's seat. After investigating the car, authorities said they found two 9mm non-serialized pistols identified as 'ghost guns.' In Georgia, a 'ghost gun' refers to a privately made firearm, often assembled from kits or parts without a serial number, meaning it's not traceable by law enforcement. The TCSO said they also seized marijuana, seemingly packaged with the intent to distribute. Hertzog was arrested on multiple charges. He was booked into the Twiggs County Jail. Two women arrested after reports of gunshots in Tuolumne County
( — The Tuolumne County Sheriff's Office responded to reports of a 38-year-old woman banging on the door and having a firearm on Wednesday afternoon. According to TCSO, deputies responded with emergency lights and sirens to the area of Tanager Drive in Twain Hart at around 12:30 p.m. for reports of Cheris Cox, 28, of Sacramento banging on the door. Before the deputies arrived, Cox had fled the scene in a vehicle. The investigation showed that Cox had broken a window at the residence, stated TCSO. When deputies searched the area, they were unable to find her. A few hours later, at about 9:20 p.m., deputies headed back to the scene after getting multiple 911 calls reporting a possible drive-by shooting, TCSO said. A witness told the deputies that a white pickup truck arrived at the home, and the driver started to yell and fired a gun, followed by more yelling and hearing more gunshots. Ultimate Sacramento Weekend guide: Baseball, Brunch, Drag Prom & More After a while, the deputies who responded to the scene found a white pickup that matched the suspect's description traveling on Longway Road near the Moose Lodge and conducted a high-risk traffic stop, according to TCSO. Cox, who was the only person in the vehicle, was detained in handcuffs. When the deputies walked up to the vehicle, they saw a shotgun in plain view near the center console, deputies said. Deputies reached out to other TCSO Investigations Division Detectives to come to the scene. After an investigation, detectives learned that there was a confrontation between Cox and 42-year-old Destiny Kaiser of Modesto, TCSO stated. During the confirmation, both women were armed with firearms that were not registered to them and fired shots negligently within a residential area, deputies said. Detectives placed both Cox and Kaiser under arrest and transported them to Dambacher Detention Center. Authorities said that Cox was booked for felony vandalism, willfully negligently discharging a firearm, carrying a loaded firearm in a public place, and for being a person prohibited from owning or possessing firearms. Kaiser was booked for willfully and negligently discharging a firearm, carrying a loaded firearm in a public place, and carrying a firearm registered to another person while in a public place. Deputies: Engine ejected from car after high-speed crash ends in flames
Deputies reportedly pulled a driver from the fiery wreck of his car following a high-speed crash on Friday evening. According to Sheriff Sanders with the Thurston County Sheriff's Office (TCSO), TCSO deputies, Tumwater Police Department officers, and East Olympic Fire firefighters responded to a single-vehicle high-speed collision on 93rd Avenue. Sheriff Sanders stated that 911 callers reported the vehicle was on fire, fully engulfed, and exploding. A TCSO unit first on the scene grabbed the driver, who deputies say had a suspended license, and is now in custody for DUI. Sheriff Sanders added that the collision had enough force to eject the engine from the car, which can be seen lying in the middle of the road.

‘Organized group' linked to 10 separate shootings in Tuscaloosa County
TUSCALOOSA COUNTY, Ala. (WIAT) — The Tuscaloosa County Sheriff's Office announced 75 total indictments for multiple suspects in connection with at least 10 shootings since 2023. TCSO says the group of suspects were funding themselves through financial crimes, including credit and bank fraud. Bank tellers were reportedly helping them and the group's potential loss value is over $1 million. The suspects allegedly committed the crimes as an organized group, which falls under the Criminal Enterprise Act. Investigation found that the criminal enterprise believed this victim to be related to their gang activity, but they were mistaken. On July 13, 2023 | Tuscaloosa VCU claim members of the criminal enterprise get into a shootout in Alberta with a rival gang member. An innocent man was shot. On January 7, 2024 | VCU alleges members of the criminal enterprise drove to and shot into an occupied residence multiple times over a monetary dispute. January 21, 2024 | The same members of the criminal enterprise allegedly shoot into an occupied apartment with a fully automatic rifle. January 21, 2024 | Members of the criminal enterprise are alleged to shoot into an different occupied apartment in a different complex with the fully automatic rifle and a 9mm pistol. January 22, 2024 | VCU says they shot into an unoccupied residence with the fully automatic rifle. April 12, 2024 | The criminal enterprise allegedly wear masks and get out on a group of individuals. One member allegedly tried to shoot one of them, but the gun did not fire. A shoot out ensues as they leave the complex. April 14, 2024 | Multiple members of the criminal enterprise allegedly get into a large shootout in Coaling, AL. A pistol outfitted with a conversion device was used. One vehicle was shot into, and 3 unoccupied vehicles were shot into. May 22, 2024 | Multiple members allegedly go to an apartment complex and shoot approximately 100 rounds into 6 occupied apartments, 1 unoccupied building, and 1 unoccupied vehicle. Group linked to 10 shootings, $1 million in fraud, Tuscaloosa police say
Tuscaloosa law enforcement officials say they've linked a group of suspects to at least 10 shootings, including one homicide, and more than $1 million in financial fraud. During a June 6 news conference, Capt. Jack Kennedy of the Tuscaloosa Violent Crimes Unit detailed the group's alleged crimes and the cooperation among law enforcement agencies that led to arrests in the more than yearlong investigation. The group of at least 10 people was funded through credit and bank fraud in an extensive scheme that involved several bank tellers, according to Kennedy. Some of the suspects who were arrested are older than 16, but under the age of 18. A grand jury has issued 75 indictments in connection with the group's alleged activities. More: Accessing local journalism is even easier with the News app Law enforcement executed more than 60 subpoenas and search warrants as investigators worked to obtain evidence, Kennedy said, in a probe that began in January 2024. The Violent Crimes Unit, a multi-agency task force that investigates violent crimes in Tuscaloosa County, worked closely with several state and local agencies in investigating what they called the 'criminal enterprise.' Among those agencies were the Tuscaloosa Police Department, the Tuscaloosa County Sheriff's Office, the Tuscaloosa County District Attorney's Office and the Alabama Department of Forensic Sciences. The crime scene units and the crime labs at TPD and TCSO collaborated during the probe. The cyber intelligence units at TPD and TCSO provided resources, such as video surveillance, cellphone and social media data extractions, financial links and detailed criminal histories. The Violent Crimes Unit itself consists of investigators from the TCSO, TPD, the Northport Police Department and the UAPD. Multiple federal law enforcement agencies, including the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms as well as the Postal Inspectors Service, also played roles in the investigation. The June 6 news conference was attended by Tuscaloosa County Sheriff Ron Abernathy, Tuscaloosa Police Department Chief Brent Blankley, Northport Police Department Chief Gerald Burton, UAP Department Chief John Hooks and Tuscaloosa County District Attorney Hays Webb. Representatives of the federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms, the FBI and the U.S. Attorney's Office were also in attendance. Here's a breakdown of the 10 shootings linked to the group, provided by the Violent Crimes Unit: July 8, 2023: A man was shot in the face in broad daylight while he sat inside a vehicle at a gas station on Tuscaloosa's west side. Investigation found that the group believed the man was related to their criminal, but the man he turned out to be a bystander. July 13, 2023: Group members got into a shootout in Alberta with a rival. A bystander was shot in the stomach. Jan. 7, 2024: Group members drove to a residence and fired into the occupied building several times because of a monetary dispute. Jan. 21, 2024: Group members fired into an occupied apartment using a fully automatic rifle. Jan. 21, 2024: Group members fired into a different occupied apartment in a different complex with the fully automatic rifle and a 9mm pistol. Jan: 22, 2024: Group members fired into an unoccupied residence with the fully automatic rifle. April 12, 2024: Group members wearing masks got into an altercation with a group of people at an apartment complex. One member allegedly tried to shoot one of the people, but the gun did not fire. A shootout ensued as the group members left the complex. No victims have come forward or been identified in this case. April 14, 2024: Multiple members of the group became involved in a large shootout in Coaling. A pistol, outfitted with a conversion device that made the weapon fully automatic, was used. One occupied vehicle was shot into, and three unoccupied vehicles were shot into. No one was killed. May 22, 2024: Multiple group members go to an apartment complex and shoot around 100 rounds into six occupied apartments, one unoccupied building and one unoccupied vehicle. They also stole a motorcycle about an hour before the shooting. 10-May 25, 2024: Members of the group commit a homicide in Pickens County. A capital murder case is pending in Pickens County.
