WWII-era bomb weighing over 200kg found in Melaka

JASIN, Melaka - A World War II-era bomb weighing over 200kg has been discovered in Malaysia's Melaka state at the Felda Senggeh settlement. Jasin OCPD Superintendent Mohamad Rusli Mat said the unexploded ordnance (UXO) was found by a settler at 1.47pm on July 14 while he was clearing the land. He said the bomb disposal unit from district police headquarters was immediately deployed to the scene. 'Upon inspection, the device was confirmed to be an old UXO, probably from the World War II period, weighing close to 500 pounds (226kg),' he said on July 14. Mr Mohamad Rusli added that the bomb will be detonated in a controlled explosion on July 15 in accordance with standard operating procedures. Man missing after being dragged away by crocodile during fishing trip in Sabah

KOTA KINABALU - A man is believed to have been mauled by a crocodile while fishing by the riverbank in Kinabatangan, Sabah . Mr Mare Miri, a 39-year-old immigrant, was fishing with four other friends when the reptile went up the bank and snatched him away. Kinabatangan Fire and Rescue Department said it received a report about the incident at 1.14pm on July 6. 'The incident happened near the Tomanggong Estate in Sukau,' said fire station chief Yus Pinsin. He said a team of search and rescuers was dispatched to the scene and they arrived at the site at 6.48pm, about 240km from the fire station. Mr Yus said the search involved villagers, where their boats were used for the operation, together with other agencies. KLUANG - The Johor-Singapore Special Economic Zone (JS-SEZ) will not only benefit Johor Bahru but also other districts like Kluang, said Johor Menteri Besar Onn Hafiz Ghazi. He stated that the rapid and ongoing developments indicate that the JS-SEZ will benefit all 10 districts of the state. 'Do not think that the benefits of the JS-SEZ will only be concentrated in the Johor Bahru area. 'All 10 districts in Johor stand to benefit from it because of all the ongoing developments taking place throughout the state, such as transportation infrastructure, housing projects and tourism,' Datuk Onn Hafiz said at a community event in Renggam, Kluang, on July 6. He said the double-track rail system, which is expected to be fully operational by the end of 2025 , and the Johor Bahru-Singapore Rapid Transit System Link , which was expected to begin operating on Jan 1, 2027, are projects that would shorten people's travel time. Driver, six others hurt after bus crashes into overhead height barrier on Malaysian road

NILAI, Negeri Sembilan - A bus driver and six passengers suffered light injuries after the vehicle crashed into an overhead height barrier along Jalan Arab Malaysian-Bukit Mahkota in the Malaysian state of Negeri Sembilan. A Fire and Rescue Department spokesman said the department received a call about the incident about 10.30pm on July 4. He said four of the injured were men. All the victims were aged between 30 and mid-50s. It is understood that the bus, which was carrying 19 passengers, was heading from the city of Kajang in Selangor to Melaka when the incident happened. In the gas pipeline fire on April 1, flames rose more than 30m high and temperatures reached over 1,000 deg C. The fire took almost eight hours to be completely extinguished. The incident completely destroyed 81 homes, with structural damage exceeding 40 per cent. It partially damaged 81 homes, while another 57 homes were affected but not burnt.
