Jitesh Sharma To Leave Vidarbha, Set To Join RCB's Teammate's Side: Report
Though Jitesh Sharma remained in Vidarbha's white-ball squads under Karun Nair, opportunities in red-ball cricket dried up. Wicketkeeper-batter Jitesh Sharma is set to part ways with Vidarbha after representing the team in domestic cricket for more than a decade. He will turn up for Baroda in the upcoming season. The 31-year-old didn't play a single Ranji Trophy match in 2024-25, warming the bench behind Vidarbha skipper and first-choice keeper Akshay Wadkar. Though he remained in their white-ball squads under Karun Nair, opportunities in red-ball cricket dried up. According to ESPN Cricinfo, the move to Baroda had been in the works for a while, and his good rapport with Baroda captain Krunal Pandya played a role in facilitating the transfer. Both of them won a maiden IPL title for Royal Challengers Bengaluru earlier this year. The shift is expected to open the door for Jitesh to revive his red-ball career. Since debuting for Vidarbha in 2015-16, the keeper-batter has played just 18 first-class matches, averaging 24.48 with four fifties. His last red-ball appearance came nearly 18 months ago. Jitesh has, however, made a name for himself in the shorter formats. After a breakthrough IPL with Punjab Kings in 2023, he earned his India T20I cap during the Asian Games later that year. He has featured in nine T20Is so far. He played a crucial role for RCB as a finisher in IPL 2025 and also step into the captain's shoes when Rajat Patidar got injured. The report further stated that Swapnil Singh, Jitesh's RCB teammate, is also on the move. The spin-bowling all-rounder is set to join Tripura ahead of the new season. Swapnil, who was RCB's only RTM pick at the mega auction, didn't get a game in IPL 2025. He last played domestic cricket for Uttarakhand, taking 18 wickets in five Ranji matches in 2024-25. His white-ball form, though, remained modest. A regular in Chennai's club circuit, Swapnil most recently played for Chepauk Super Gillies in TNPL 2025, picking up three wickets and scoring 85 runs across eight matches. view comments First Published: Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's. Chepauk Super Gillies' owner moves Madras High Court against TNOGA notice on online gaming ‘endorsement'
A media company that owns Chepauk Super Gillies, a leading participant in the Tamil Nadu Premier League (TNPL) organised by the Tamil Nadu Cricket Association (TNCA), has approached the Madras High Court against a notice issued by the Tamil Nadu Online Gaming Authority (TNOGA), warning it of penal action over an alleged indirect endorsement of an online gambling website. Justice N. Anand Venkatesh on Friday (June 28, 2025) took note of the submission of senior counsel P.R. Raman, representing Metronation Chennai Television Private Limited, that the TNOGA's notice insisting that Chepauk Super Gillies remove the endorsement had been issued on June 26, 2025, when the TNPL 2025, which began on June 5 and is expected to end on July 6, was at an advanced stage. The judge directed TNOGA counsel B. Arvind Srevatsa to take notice on behalf of the authority and instruct it to keep all further action in abeyance till July 16. In an affidavit filed in support of its writ petition, Metronation, which also owns Thanthi TV, said the TNOGA had issued issued a show-cause notice on May 16, taking exception to an endorsement on the Chepauk Super Gillies' jersey. In the notice, the TNOGA stated that the signage MELBAT found on the jersey amounts to indirectly promoting the betting/gambling website MELBET, and that this was in violation of Section 8 of the Tamil Nadu Prohibition of Online Gambling and Regulation of Online Games Act, 2022. The authority had asked Metronation to respond as to why it should not be proceeded against for such a violation. Metronation denies charge Metronation responded to the notice on June 21, stoutly denying the charge of having promoted online gambling through its jersey branding. It told the authority that the logo displayed on the jersey was that of 'MELBAT LIVE,' a website engaged in sports news. The company asserted that the logo did not contain any language, imagery, or context that could be construed as promoting betting or gambling. After considering the reply, the TNOGA sent a second notice to the company on June 26, observing that the explanation was unsustainable since Section 8 of the Act prohibits not only direct but also indirect advertisement of online gambling. Therefore, the authority gave a final opportunity to Metronation to remove the endorsement within 48 hours or face action under Section 16 of the Act. Since Section 16 provides for the imposition of imprisonment for a term extending up to one year or fine, which could extend up to ₹5 lakh or both, for contravention of Section 8 of the Act, the media company had rushed to the court with a plea to quash the June 26 notice. It contended that the TNOGA had issued the notice without considering the Advertising Standards Council of India guidelines.

Teary-Eyed R Ashwin Hugs KKR Star After Final Over TNPL Heroics. Video Viral
Varun Chakravarthy showcased nerves of steel and guided Dindigul Dragons to a last-ball victory over SKM Salem Spartans in the Tamil Nadu Premier League (TNPL). Chakravarthy struck two boundaries off the final two deliveries as Dragons won the game by two wickets at the MA Chidambaram Stadium on Saturday. On the penultimate ball, Chakravarthy smashed a six towards the cow corner, before lofting one over mid-off on the final over to collect a four. Chasing 189, the Dragons needed 11 runs from the final over. After Chakravarthy hit the winning runs, his teamates charged into the field, barring skipper Ravichandran Ashwin who remained seated at the dugout. In a viral video, Ashwin looked visibly emotional, but later went on to give Chakravarthy a tight hug. Varun Chakravarthy delivered a humdinger finish for the Dindigul Dragons! @TNCACricket @DindigulDragons @chakaravarthy29 #TNPL #NammaOoruNammaGethu #TNPL2025 — TNPL (@TNPremierLeague) June 22, 2025 Earlier this month, Ashwin and Dindigul Dragons were accused of ball-tampreing by Seicham Madurai Panthers. However, the appeal was later withdrawn by the franchise. The Panthers had accused Dragons of tampering with the ball by using towels "treated with chemicals" during a Tamil Nadu Premier League (TNPL) match on June 14 at Salem. "Following due consideration, the management and coaching staff of SMP have decided to withdraw the complaint in the larger interest of the sport and the smooth conduct of the tournament," said Prasanna Kannan, the TNPL CEO. "They have further clarified that the intention behind the complaint was not to bring disrepute to Mr. R. Ashwin, captain of the Dindigul Dragons, the Dindigul Dragons team, the match officials, the TNPL, or the TNCA," he added. Kannan said since the Panthers have decided to withdraw their complaint there would not be any follow-up action on the matter. "In light of this withdrawal, the matter is deemed closed and no further action shall be pursued," he said. Kannan said an internal committee of the TNCA thoroughly reviewed the complaint filed by the Panthers earlier this week, but found no specific evidence. "In accordance with the Operational Rules of the Tamil Nadu Premier League, TNCA reviewed the matter and communicated the procedural steps required for initiating a formal enquiry. "The SMP was accordingly requested to submit specific evidence that would enable the constitution of a commission to examine the matter and determine any further course of action," he added.
