DOTr: NLEX Corp. liable for fatal mishap as truck hits Marilao bridge anew
The North Luzon Expressway (NLEX) Corporation will be held liable for the road mishap on Wednesday which killed a 54-year-old passenger after a truck hit the Marilao Interchange Bridge anew, the Department of Transportation (DOTr) said. The incident comes three months after another trailer truck damaged the interchange bridge, severely disrupting traffic along two northbound NLEX lanes. In a Super Radyo dzBB interview on Thursday, Transportation Secretary Vince Dizon said he would push for the waiving of the toll fees in affected areas on NLEX, should motorists experience heavy traffic due to Wednesday's incident. "Ako ay mago-order ngayon sa TRB ngayong araw na sabihan ang NLEX na liable sila doon sa nangyari na naman kahapon. Kasi nakalusot na naman sa Meycauayan exit… itong truck na masyadong mataas. So ibig sabihin niyan, pinalusot 'yan o nakalusot 'yan ng NLEX," Dizon said, referring to the Toll Regulatory Board. (I will order the TRB today to tell NLEX Corp. that it is liable for what happened yesterday. The truck was too high but it managed to pass through the Meycauayan exit again. So that means that the NLEX let the truck pass or it slipped through the company's watch.) "Ito po ay liable ang NLEX diyan and mabigat po ito. At ako ay susulat ngayon through TRB na unang una, kapag 'yan ay na-disrupt na naman ang mga kababayan natin sa biyahe, kasalanan nila 'yan, ipapalibre ko ulit ang toll diyan," he added. And I will write through the TRB that if such an incident disrupts trips of countrymen again, it is their fault, and therefore I will waive the toll fee there again.) Based on the initial investigation of the Marilao police, the trailer truck passed the Meycauayan exit to go back to Malabon, but it hit the interchange bridge on the northbound lane when it arrived in Marilao. A beam from the bridge fell and hit the vehicle behind the truck, resulting in the death of a passenger of an Asian utility vehicle (AUV) and injuries of others, including a two-year-old kid. According to the truck driver, he had no idea that the truck would strike the bridge because he supposedly passes there almost every day when going from Meycauayan to Malabon. The truck driver is now in the custody of Marilao police and will face complaints of reckless imprudence resulting in homicide and serious physical injuries and damage to property. In the incident last March, the truck reportedly exceeded the 4.27-meter limit restriction under the Marilao Interchange Bridge. Ex-TRB jawan held for drunk driving
Ahmedabad: A former Traffic Reserve Battalion (TRB) constable was arrested in the early hours of Wednesday for allegedly driving under the influence of alcohol and ramming his car into multiple vehicles and a roadside food cart near Das Khaman junction in Nikol. The incident reportedly occurred around 2am. The accused, identified as Rahul Singh Vinod Singh Rajput, 26, a businessman and resident of Thakkarnagar, reportedly lost control of his car, carrying around four passengers. No injuries or casualties were reported. Upon reaching the spot, traffic police officials discovered liquor bottles in the vehicle and a dashboard display board labelled 'police'. Head constable Ranjitdan Aydan of 'I' Division traffic police station, who lodged the complaint, noted that Rajput was visibly drunk, reeking of alcohol, unsteady on his feet, had red eyes and displayed confrontational behaviour. He also admitted to consuming liquor but failed to produce a valid permit. Eyewitnesses and local panch witnesses corroborated the account, confirming Rajput's erratic driving. CCTV footage from the area captured the sequence of events, further substantiating the complaint, police said. The car, valued at Rs 1 lakh, was seized at the spot, and Rajput was taken into custody at 3.15am. During questioning, he revealed he had previously served as a TRB constable. A case has been registered under the Motor Vehicles Act for reckless and drunk driving and under the Gujarat Prohibition Act for illegal possession and consumption of alcohol. Further investigations are underway.

TNSET candidates urge TRB to release results amid job, PhD admission uncertainty
COIMBATORE: Candidates who appeared for the Tamil Nadu State Eligibility Test (TNSET) in March have requested the Teacher Recruitment Board (TRB) to release the results promptly. Candidates pointed out that the delay in results prevents them from joining a post of assistant professor job at private colleges or pursuing a PhD programme. A candidate, C Nithya of Erode district, told TNIE that since 2018, the TRB has been conducting computer-based test for SET from March 6 to 9. "Though the TRB released the TNSET answer key on March 20, it has yet to announce when the results would be released. At present, many private colleges are recruiting for assistant professor posts for the next academic year. With the delay in the TNSET result, we are unable to apply for jobs as the TNSET qualification is essential. We are losing job opportunities. We can apply for jobs if the TRB releases the results soon," she said. Another candidate, L Manivannan in Coimbatore, told TNIE that if students have the TNSET qualification, they don't have to write entrance examinations for PhD programmes. "For instance, Bharathiar University said that candidates can apply for the Common Eligibility Test (CET) for PhD programmes until May 31. If the TRB releases the results this month, candidates can know their SET qualification's status, and then they can decide whether to join a PhD programme directly or if they need to write the SET. Now, candidates are in a dilemma," he said. A functionary from the NET/SLET Association told TNIE that usually the results are released within a month of the exam, but the TRB has delayed them. "The delay in releasing the results is unacceptable when the TRB conducts a computer-based test. It should promptly release the results, considering the welfare of the candidates," he stated. Repeated attempts to reach the top officers of TRB went in vain.

Candidates who cleared TET in 2013 plead for priority in appointment of govt. school teachers in the new academic year
A group of Tamil Nadu Teacher Eligibility Test (TNTET) qualified secondary grade teachers (SGT) on Thursday urged Chief Minister M.K. Stalin and Minister for School Education Anbil Mahesh Poyyamozhi to appoint them to the vacancies in the schools by the new academic year. At a press conference held here, representatives of the TET SGTs from various districts, who had cleared the exam since 2013, appealed to the authorities concerned to prioritise their appointment. 'On Labour Day, we appeal to the government to fill the elementary school posts lying vacant since 2013. At least 40% of the qualified candidates are in the 40-45 age group. We have passed the qualifying exams after studying two types of school syllabi. Despite this, we are unemployed. The Teachers Recruitment Board (TRB), when calling for certificate verification, overlooks us because of marks-based assessment criteria. We do not have the skills or the mindset to write yet another qualifying examination. Despite our educational qualification, we are forced to take up any available job to make ends meet,' said E.R. Tamilvalavan, coordinator of the group. The TRB announced 2,728 staff vacancies on July 21, 2024. There are 4,460 government schools with 5,804 vacancies in the State. 'In the 2023-24 academic year, over 1 lakh children were admitted to elementary schools. If the authorities want to improve school education, they must increase the number of posts and recruit more teachers. TET candidates like us could be considered on the basis of our seniority and subject knowledge,' said Hemalatha, a science teacher. The 2013 TET SGTs also urged the authorities to rescind the Government Order 149, which mandates an additional examination for teachers.
