The fandom may have just been gifted the biggest hint yet that Taylor Swift's 12th studio album is on the way — and, in true Taylor fashion, it didn't come in the form of a direct announcement. It came from a casually dropped comment in a Swedish interview, a fast-deleted post, and a pile of cryptic details Swifties have been decoding for months. The Leak Heard Around the Swiftie World: A Swedish Producer Says They're 'Finishing Taylor Swift's Album' In an April 2025 interview with Universal Music Sweden, producer Jacob Criborn — one half of the DJ duo Nause — sat down to discuss his new remix 'Canelloni Macaroni' and casually mentioned working with composer Erik Arvinder (known for his arrangements with Coldplay, Avicii, and Zara Larsson). In 2023, months before she began dating Travis Kelce, Taylor Swift was in a highly divisive — and relatively short-lived — relationship with Matty Healy. For some context, Taylor and Matty were known to run in the same social circles for many years; however, when they first stepped out as an apparent couple after her split from Joe Alwyn in May 2023, Taylor's fans were not on board with the new romance — largely due to some of Matty's past problematic behavior, which you can read about here. So, when the pair broke up after just one month in June 2023, the Swifties were relieved that Matty was out of the picture — until just under a year later, when Taylor released The Tortured Poets Department. As you may remember, the album, which dropped in April 2024, was packed full of lyrics seemingly chronicling the ups and downs of what was essentially revealed to be a 9-year situationship between Taylor and Matty, which ended with him allegedly ghosting her. Songs like 'Peter,' 'Fresh Out the Slammer,' 'Down Bad,' 'But Daddy I Love Him,' 'I Can Fix Him (No Really I Can),' and 'The Smallest Man Who Ever Lived' were just a few of the songs on TTPD speculated to be inspired by the 1975 frontman. Of course, song lyrics are always open for interpretation, so we don't know exactly what happened between these two. However, it's probably fair to speculate that the breakup was pretty messy — for Taylor, at least. And now, just a month after Matty was accused of shading Taylor during his headlining set at Glastonbury, his mom, UK TV icon, Denise Welch, has weighed in on the relationship and all the chatter surrounding it. During an appearance on Watch What Happens Live this week, host Andy Cohen asked Denise for her 'reaction' to Taylor writing 'a whole album' about Matty, to which she bluntly replied: 'Not being her mother-in-law is a role that I'm glad I lost.' There were literal gasps from the studio audience, and even Andy looked shocked, which prompted Denise quickly to clarify that she doesn't have 'anything against' Taylor; she just didn't love the way things played out with TTPD. 'It was just, you know, it was tricky,' she said. 'Listen, you're not allowed to say anything, and then she writes a whole album about it. But Matty has taken it all in completely good grace. He's very happy with his amazing fiancé Gabriella, Gabbriette, who is gorgeous…We've moved on.' FYI, Denise did not get Gabbriette's name wrong. Her real name is Gabriella, which is presumably what her close friends and family call her.
