According to her mother's social media, Daryl is currently battling Alzheimer's disease. The Sursok matriarch revealed the news in March when she shared a video montage to her Instagram account. The clip featured several photos of Julie and Daryl cuddling up together and having fun throughout their many years as a couple. Julie, who is a best-selling author, captioned the video with some hopeful words about the 'battle ahead'. 'Hanging onto these memories. We have a battle ahead but we are strong and positive. Things will be alright,' she wrote. Alzheimer's disease is the most common cause of dementia, with early symptoms including memory loss that gradually worsens over time, according to Mayo Clinic. In advanced stages, loss of brain function can cause dehydration and poor nutrition, with the worst cases resulting in death. Alzheimer's is a biological process which begins with the appearance of a build-up of proteins in the form of amyloid plaques and neurofibrillary tangles in the brain. Over time, brain cells begin to die and the organ shrinks. While there is no cure, there are medicines available that can improve symptoms and slow the decline in thinking.

Inspirational burns survivor Turia Pitt reveals new career move after being forced to change her life as she was 'pushing her own needs aside'
Burns survivor Turia Pitt has launched her new book. The Aussie athlete, who was tragically caught in a grassfire while competing in a 100km ultra-marathon in 2011, has released her latest project titled Selfish, which examines 'how to unlearn the rules that are breaking you'. Taking to Instagram on Wednesday, the 37-year-old revealed that she thought the word 'selfish' was in need of a rebrand, encouraging people to empower themselves and take the right measures to avoid burnout. 'We're told that being selfish is bad. That we should always think of others, put everyone else first, push our own needs aside,' she wrote in the post's caption. 'I bought into that story. And it led me straight to burnout. This is the book I wish I had during that time.' She went on to say that she wrote the book for people who have ever felt 'stretched too thin, lost, or like you're living by someone else's rules.' She added: 'It is not something that is at the top of my priority list. Every day, I am not like, ''let's try and get this movie made''. I am not doing that at all.' 'Whether or not a film gets made, I don't really think it is in my control. 'I think I would be (involved),' she said. 'That would be really weird if someone made a movie and I just saw it on the TV. That would be quite strange.' In 2011, Turia survived against the odds after getting caught in a wildfire while competing in an ultramarathon in Western Australia. The Celebrity Apprentice star was left with horrific burns and later became a motivational speaker. In 2023, she opened up about the aftermath of the tragedy 11 years on, and said she 'wanted to die' during the early stages of her hospitalisation. Tammin Sursok on how she encourages her kids to talk to her
Actor Tammin Sursok says she doesn't take an authoritarian parenting style with her two children so they know they can come to her or her husband anytime to discuss what they are feeling and have a 'soft place to land'. The mum-of-two also said going on walks together was a great time for her family to connect, adding they tried to sit down together for dinner together four nights a week in between a busy schedule of extra-curricular activities and hour-long trips to and from school. Opening up about family life to start a conversation for News Corp's Can We Talk? mental health awareness campaign, in partnership with Medibank, the 41-year-old revealed they were considering relocating from Nashville back to Australia next year. This was so her two girls, Phoenix, 11, and Lennon Bleu, 6, could be closer to Sursok's family. 'We're definitely planning and thinking about next June, coming back (to Australia) for an extended period of time,' she said. 'We're trying to figure out, like, the next steps, but it is looking very promising that we'll come back to Australia, and hopefully we'll find school right next to where we live.' Sursok, who rose to international fame after her roles in Pretty Little Liars and Young and the Restless, has long been vocal about her own battles with mental health, including suffering from anxiety and struggling with bulimia. She has also grieved and lived with the heartbreak of having two miscarriages. 'I've been very open and honest about mental health issues I've had my entire life,' the former Home and Away star said. 'It's been a very open conversation with my family and ultimately that's going to help them. 'I think it's been really helpful for my kids to see that we don't always have to have it together and be perfect. 'You can falter and you can fail and it's okay. 'My kids definitely see that if you are having a moment where you are struggling, there are so many tools that you can adopt that will help you get through it.' Sursok said some of the techniques they used to stay calm included breathwork and facial tapping. 'I know my littlest one, who is six, when she is overwhelmed she does box breathing (a deep breathing technique) which she learnt from school,' Sursok said. 'For me I do something called tapping in the car, so if you're really overwhelmed, neurologically it's meant to get your mind back on track.' She said she also took the supplement L-theanine — an amino acid found in green and black tea leaves – to help with her anxiety. Sursok and her husband Sean McEwen – who is on a movie shoot for the next seven months – both go to therapy separately and they regularly prioritise going on walks together with the kids. 'As a family the main thing we do is move our bodies, we go on walks because exercise is such a massive tool in the toolbox when it comes to anxiety,' she said. 'That to us is just getting out, grounding ourselves in the earth and walking and being out and breathing the air. 'I go to therapy and then I can implement some of those strategies, too. 'Therapy is just like a workout for your brain, we work out our bodies and therapy helps you get tools and break things apart and figure it out.' Sursok said one of her biggest parenting hacks to help get her kids to open up was not being too 'authoritarian'. 'Sometimes this authoritarian approach feels like it's not going to be the most fertile environment for my kids to open up to me if I'm just going to get aggressive or heightened,' she said. 'Like, why would they want to share anything with me? 'Trying to be measured and trying to talk through it doesn't mean I can't be forceful. I really believe in forceful but kind. 'So I think that's what really works for people to get the kids open up, they always have a soft place to land.' After spending her teen years growing up on the set of Home and Away, Sursok noted she thought it was more challenging for kids now. 'Kids growing up today are very different to kids growing up when I was younger because there's all the social media and we are pretty hard and fast about (our eldest) not having social media, at least for a long time,' she said. 'I just want her (my eldest daughter) to love herself, give herself grace and kindness and talk to herself kindly. 'We are trying to implement a lot of tools if she feels stressed and overwhelmed.'

The Australian actress was bitten in March and visited her GP the following day to undergo a standard examination. But the former Home and Away star's routine trip to the local medical centre soon turned harrowing when her doctor found something 'unexpected'. The saga began when Tammin, who is based in Nashville, Tennessee, told her Instagram followers she had been bitten. Sharing an image of a tiny raised bump on her arm, she said: 'You'd think because I'm from Australia I'd know about spiders. 'One just bit me. It's so painful. Do I just do the ring around the spot and watch it?' Tammin appeared unconcerned by the bite as she already had a routine check-up scheduled with her doctor for the following day. She shared an update as she sat in the waiting room at her GP, showing the bite had become very red. 'Spider bite update. Went to bed thinking it's gone away. Pain slightly better. This morning...' she wrote alongside a shocked emoji. But the news soon got worse for Tammin just a few hours later when she spoke with her doctor and learned they found something 'unexpected' during her check-up. Assuring followers the health concern was unrelated to the spider bite, Tammin said she underwent an ultrasound to investigate it further but is yet to receive the results. 'Found out some news at the Dr that was unexpected. Thinking positively but please keep me in your good thoughts,' she said alongside a selfie. 'Always advocate for your health. Ask for second opinions. Trust your gut.' Tammin later uploaded a video to her Stories as she sat in her car after the doctor's visit. 'So, I just got back from the doctor's. I was having my routine yearly exam. Very important,' she said. 'While that was happening, nothing to do with the spider, they found something a little unexpected. I ended up getting an ultrasound. 'Don't really know much more than that. Just being super positive. Thank you for asking. I'm just not going to share anything until I have anything to share.' The Pretty Little Liars star finished her video with: 'I'm just hoping everything is all good. Lots of positive thoughts.'
