BYD achieves 13 million NEV production milestone

BYD celebrated the production of its 13-millionth new energy vehicle, the Yangwang U7, at its Xiaomo Production Base. Check Offers BYD, a global leader in the new energy vehicle (NEV) segment, marked a major milestone as it celebrated the production of its 13-millionth NEV. The landmark vehicle—a Yangwang U7—rolled off the assembly line at the brand's Xiaomo Production Base, located in the Shenzhen-Shanwei Special Cooperation Zone. This achievement not only highlights BYD's rapid manufacturing capabilities but also cements its leadership position in the global NEV market. In the first half of 2025 alone, BYD sold more than 2.113 million units in China, representing a solid 31.5 per cent growth compared to the same period last year. Meanwhile, its international operations saw exponential growth, with overseas sales reaching 4,72,000 units—a staggering 128.5 per cent year-on-year increase. Thanks to these robust figures, BYD has not only maintained its dominance in the global NEV industry but has also become the first automaker worldwide to produce 13 million new energy vehicles—a feat that sets a new benchmark for the industry. Also Read : Tata Harrier EV vs Mahindra XEV 9e vs BYD Atto 3: Which electric SUV should you pick The selection of the Yangwang U7 as the milestone vehicle is especially symbolic. As a flagship model under BYD's premium sub-brand, Yangwang represents the company's ambition to redefine high-end mobility with cutting-edge technology and luxury features. The brand's consistent innovations and performance breakthroughs serve as a testament to the rising global competitiveness of Chinese automotive manufacturers, particularly in the rapidly evolving electric vehicle landscape. This production milestone also reflects the growing consumer confidence in BYD's technology and vision—both in its home market and abroad. As global demand for electric and hybrid vehicles continues to climb, BYD's strong performance and industrial advancements underline its role as a key player shaping the future of sustainable transportation. BYD Atto 3 surpasses one million sales The BYD Atto 3, also known as the Yuan Plus in its home market of China, has officially crossed the one million sales mark worldwide. First launched in February 2022, the electric SUV has achieved this milestone in just 31 months, reflecting its steady popularity across various international markets. Sales momentum began strongly in China, where the model recorded around 300,000 units in the first 14 months alone. This was followed by an additional 200,000 units in the next six months. The remaining half a million units were sold over the course of 25 months, largely driven by growing demand in global markets as exports expanded to more than 100 countries. It took BYD approximately 1,391 days to reach the million-unit mark—averaging about 719 vehicles sold each day. While the figures highlight the Atto 3's widespread appeal, BYD has not provided a region-wise sales breakdown to detail how different markets contributed to this success. "Such A Sad End": Video Of BluSmart Cabs Covered In Dust At EV Charging Station Leaves Internet Nostalgic

BluSmart, India's first all-electric cab service, earned praise for offering a cleaner and more reliable alternative to traditional ride-hailing options. However, the company's operations came to a sudden halt earlier this year after its founders, Anmol Singh Jaggi and Puneet Singh Jaggi, were accused of financial misconduct. According to SEBI's interim order, the brothers allegedly diverted a portion of Rs 978 crore - funds intended for purchasing electric vehicles - towards personal luxuries, including a high-end apartment in DLF Camellias and a Rs 26 lakh golf set. Now, months after BluSmart suspended its operations, a video showing BluSmart cabs gathering dust at an electric vehicle (EV) charging station has gone viral, drawing mixed reactions from social media users. The clip was shared on X by a user with the handle @BunnyPunia, who claimed to have visited a Jio-bp EV charging hub and found several Tata Tigor EVs from BluSmart's fleet parked and covered in a thick layer of dust, appearing unused for a long time. Take a look below: Shame! Such a sad end to what was once Delhis best cab service : Blu Smart Fleet of Tata Tigor EVs eating dust. Came across this while charging the Tata Harrier EV to 100% before leaving for a range test Why can't we Delhiites ever get good reliable clean safe cab services? — Bunny Punia (@BunnyPunia) July 16, 2025 "Everywhere I see are Blu Smart parked and left. The company has of course shutdown. They are just eating dust. What was once a great, great initiative for travellers is now lying like this. Getting junk, getting dust," a person says in the video in Hindi while showing the condition of the cabs. "Shame! Such a sad end to what was once Delhi's best cab service: Blu Smart," the X user wrote in the caption of the post. "Fleet of Tata Tigor EVs eating dust. Came across this while charging the Tata Harrier EV to 100% before leaving for a range test. Why can't we Delhiites ever get good reliable clean safe cab services?" he added. Since being shared, the video has accumulated more than 991,000 views. Reacting to the clip, one user wrote, "@BluSmartIndia scam hit so many of us personally as we had got used to preferring Blu Smart over Ola and Uber. I used it quite often, esp. for pick up and drop from Airport. The cabs were cleaner and better drivers. The promoters greed collapsed such a promising business, left thousands of drivers jobless, hundreds of perfectly good cars rotting and lenders losing money! What a 'lose-lose' situation for everyone." "Yes, too sad to see. I hope someone someday buys all of these, maintains them, rebrands them and ply them in the NCR," commented another. "For early morning flights it was a life saver. Otherwise uber/ola, and indrive all used to quote a bomb and used to create artificial scarcity to create panic for traveller. Blusmart always reached 15-20 mins earlier than scheduled time with no hiccups and very reasonable prices," wrote a third user. "Correct. Always booked these when I coud in Delhi - never had a bad experience. Polite drivers and clean, comfortable cars. I hope the bankruptcy proceedings happen smoothly and these are back in service soon," said another. "Surely was a best cab service. No unnecessary hassles, on time, & no pointless arguments with drivers 4 AC or pricing a service we could rely on, no cancellation tension. Really wonder why no big startup/company is talking about reviving this. this was the best cab model imo," one user commented.

Video Of BluSmart Cabs Eating Dust At EV Charging Station Makes Indians Miss 'Reliable' Cabs

BluSmart, a ride-hailing app with electric vehicles in its fleet, quickly became a popular choice among passengers owing to its reliability and polite drivers. BluSmart, a popular ride-hailing company with an electric vehicle fleet, built a reputation in India for providing clean cabs with no threat of surge or cancellations. The drivers were polite, and the passengers returned to the app, opting to ditch the company's competitors, such as Ola and Uber. BluSmart's operations, however, came to an abrupt end earlier this year after the company's founders faced several allegations of financial misconduct. The aftermath of BluSmart's sudden disappearance from the roads meant over 10,000 drivers were left jobless overnight, and public trust in electric vehicle mobility was shaken. But what happened to its cars? An X user, who goes by the handle @BunnyPunia, recently shared the state of hundreds of electric vehicles in BluSmart's fleet eating dust. The user claimed that they had visited a Jio-bp EV charging hub where they discovered several Tata Tigor parked and covered in a thick layer of dust. 'Everywhere I see are Blu Smart parked and left. The company has of course shutdown. They are just eating dust. What was once a great, great initiative for travellers is now lying like this. Getting junk, getting dust, (sic)" the user said as he panned around and showed the condition of the cabs. 'Really sad to see this," the X user added. 'Came across this while charging the Tata Harrier EV to 100% before leaving for a range test. Why can't we Delhiites ever get good reliable clean safe cab services?" read the caption. 'For early morning flights it was a life saver. Otherwise uber/ola, and indrive all used to quote a bomb and used to create artificial scarcity to create panic for traveller. Blusmart always reached 15-20 mins earlier than scheduled time with no hiccups and very reasonable prices, (sic)" a user, responding to the video, wrote. BluSmart Shuts Operations Anmol and Puneet Singh Jaggi, the founders of BluSmart, face allegations from SEBI of misusing funds meant for electric vehicle procurement, diverting approximately ₹262 crore to purchase a luxury apartment and other personal expenses. This alleged financial mismanagement, coupled with falsified records, has led to their ban from the securities market and a forensic audit of their company, Gensol Engineering. Public Disappointment BluSmart had slowly but surely built a reputation of being a reliable, quiet, and hassle-free alternative for passengers who had ditched their daily woes of surge prices, cancellations, and impolite drivers. They hopped onto the EV cab train only to be left disappointed when it got derailed overnight. 'As a frequent BluSmart user, the news of the service shutting down hits hard. Another service one got used to, lost to mismanagement. The clean cars, courteous drivers, and the sheer reliability of the cabs turning up at the right time, stuff that the brand had built over the years – will all be missed," wrote X user @2shar in a post dated April 2025. An abrupt and inglorious halt to what had become an impressive brand in recent years — excellent + reliable service, happy employees, women drivers, EV rides, clean cabs (each an exception to the norm). It's hard not to feel a sense of loss today. #BluSmart — Akshi (@akshichawla) April 16, 2025 What Happens To The Cars? In May, Evera Cabs, an electric cab operator, was reported to be in the process of recovering 500 electric vehicles previously operated by BluSmart, with 220 cabs already reclaimed and 280 still awaiting retrieval. BluSmart launched in 2019 and quickly became popular, especially among women, seniors, and working professionals. First Published: Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's.
