Texas A&M LB Taurean York hypes of new Aggie edge as a player to watch this season

Texas A&M's defense is expected to be one of the better units in the country during the 2025 season, with head coach Mike Elko now calling defensive plays after defensive coordinator Jay Bateman's struggles during the latter half of the 2024 campaign. This was the right move, given the need to eliminate big plays in the secondary and shore up the Aggies' pass rush, which also faltered during the second half of the season. On Thursday, Mike Elko, alongside linebacker Taurean York, guard Ar'maj Reed-Adams, and cornerback Will Lee III, took questions from the media during the final day of SEC media days. York, who made his second and final appearance at the annual event, praised one of the new Aggie pass rushers who chose Texas A&M over several high-profile suitors for what will be his final collegiate season. After losing Nic Scourton, Shemar Stewart, and Shemar Turner to the NFL, Texas A&M's 2025 pass rush will now feature four transfer edge rushers, including former Pitt and Colorado edge Dayon Hayes, whose injury is the only reason he hasn't stuck with a program over the last two seasons. However, after an impressive showing during A&M's Maroon & White spring game, Taurean York was quick to name the veteran defender when asked what under-the-radar name the Aggie fans should look for this season. "Dayon Hayes from Colorado. He is a terrific football player." This spring, ESPN writer Kyle Bonagura picked Hayes as Shemar Stewart's potential replacement, given his size (6'4", 265 pounds) and past production after recording 10.5 tackles for loss during the 2023 season, his final year with Pitt. With over 40 games of collegiate experience, this is the final chance for Hayes to shine, and along with fellow transfer edge rushers T.J. Searcy and Samuel M'Pemba, Texas A&M's pass rush, led by senior Cashius Howell, is in good hands. Texas A&M Football Makes CFB 26 Overall, Offense, and Defense Top 25 Lists

Texas A&M Football Makes CFB 26 Overall, Offense, and Defense Top 25 Lists originally appeared on Athlon Sports. EA Sports' College Football 26 is coming out on July 10 and it's slowly revealed different features and rankings ahead of its release date. Most recently, the Top 25 Overall teams, offenses, and defenses have been announced. Texas A&M made all three lists. Advertisement Kyle Field also made an appearance on CFB 26's stadium rankings. It was ranked the 11th toughest field to play at. Thirteen Aggies were also given a rating of at least 85 with offensive lineman Ar'Maj Reed-Adams leading the group with an overall rating of 93. Reed-Adams was the only Texas A&M representation in the Top 100 players. Texas A&M football against Texas Lysaker-Imagn Images Texas A&M defense is ranked No. 12 overall on CFB 26 The Aggies' defense ranked right behind No. 10 Clemson and No. 11 Notre Dame, ending up 12th in CFB 26. All three defenses were given an overall rating of 90. Texas A&M's defense tallied 781 total tackles in the 2024-25 season, led by linebacker Taurean York who had 92 on 35 solos and 47 assists. The Aggies also had 25 total sacks in the season for 159 yards, 16 interceptions for 249 yards, and 60 pass deflections. Advertisement With 2025 NFL Draft first round pick Shemar Stewart, Shemar Turner, and Nic Scourtan all leaving after last season, Texas A&M definitely had to prioritize experience in the transfer portal. Tyler Onyedim from Iowa State is one of the transfers head coach Mike Elko is excited about. When paired with returner Cashius Howell who had 40 tackles, 8.5 tackles for loss, and four sacks in 2024-25, the defensive line is in a solid spot heading into this season. Texas A&M offense is ranked No. 12 overall on CFB 26 The Aggies offense led by returning sophomore quarterback Marcel Reed was also ranked 12th behind No. 10 Miami and No. 11 Indiana. The offense was rated 89 overall as well as Indiana, Miami, Florida, Notre Dame, Alabama, LSU, and Clemson. In the 2024-25 season, the Aggies ended their season with 2,734 net passing yards, 19 receiving touchdowns, 2,545 rushing yards, and 27 rushing touchdowns. Advertisement Elko noted heading into the upcoming season that the success will stem from the offensive line. With last season's captains and offensive linemen Trey Zuhn III and Reed-Adams returning instead of declaring for the NFL Draft, the offensive line has a lot of experience and stability in the near future. Wide receiver and tight end refinements will also give Reed more room and talent to work with. Worst case scenario, the Aggies have Rueben Owens and Le'Veon Moss to fall back on in times of need. The run game will be a huge roar if these two running backs can stay healthy. Texas A&M is ranked No. 8 overall on CFB 26 The Aggies broke into the top 10 overall teams in this edition of CFB, landing eighth right after No. 6 Georgia and No. 7 Clemson. Spots two through eight — Texas (No. 2), Ohio State (No. 3), Penn State (No. 4), Notre Dame (No. 5), Georgia (No. 6), Clemson (No. 7), and Texas A&M (No. 8) — all received an 88 rating overall. Advertisement Considering the Aggies were ninth in the SEC last season, having a top 10 ranking in CFB 26 speaks volume to the players joining and returning (including those back from injury). There's definitely room for improvement, such as the expectations for Reed's performance, but a No. 8 overall team ranking is a good spot for a Texas A&M team that's quickly putting the pieces together it was missing last season. 3 Texas A&M Aggies Named To Athlon Preseason All-America Team originally appeared on Athlon Sports. Athlon has officially released our College Football 2025 All-America Team, and Texas A&M football found themselves with three players named to the team. Advertisement The top-rated Texas A&M player on the All-America list is junior Aggies linebacker Taurean York, who made an appearance on the First-Team Defense. York started all 26 games for Texas A&M during his freshman and sophomore seasons. In 2024, York recorded 82 tackles (9 TFL), five pass deflections, and 2.5 sacks. Taurean York (21) celebrates with his Texas A&M football Lysaker-Imagn Images Joining York on the list are redshirt senior offensive lineman Ar'maj Reed-Adams and junior wide receiver Kevin "KC" Concepcion. Adams, who was listed as a lineman on the Second-Team Offense, started all 13 games for the Aggies last fall and helped anchor the 25th-best rushing attack at the FBS level last season. He joined Texas A&M in 2024 after a four-season stint with the Kansas Jayhawks. Both York and Reed-Adams were both also named Walter Camp Preseason All-Americans earlier this week. Concepcion, who was named to the Fourth-Team Offense, transferred into College Station this offseason after beginning his career in the ACC with North Carolina State. During his first two seasons with the Wolfpack, Concepcion hauled in 124 receptions for 1,299 yards and 16 touchdowns and also added 60 carries for 356 yards and two touchdowns. A highly-touted transfer portal addition, Concepcion has racked up $2.5 million in NIL deals to bring his talents to College Station. He led the team with 82 tackles with 35 solos and 47 assists, and was second on the team with 9.5 tackles for loss for 31 yards. York also totaled 2.5 sacks and four pass breakups. He was named to the SEC All-Freshman team and Freshman All-American team after leading the rookies in the NCAA in tackles for loss. Texas A&M football offensive lineman Ar'maj Lysaker-Imagn Images Reed-Adams is entering his second season at Texas A&M as a senior. He was the starting right guard each game in 2024-25 and assisted the Aggies in averaging 195.5 rushing yards per game. Reed-Adams is a versatile offensive lineman that kept the offense as stable as possible through quarterback adjustments. He's a key returner for the Aggies after opting to not declare for 2025 NFL Draft. Reed-Adams should be expected to be a day two draft pick in 2026. Previewing the 2025 season for Texas A&M LB Jordan Lockhart with his player profile

As we gear up for the 2025 football season, Aggies Wire is breaking down every player on the Texas A&M roster. Throughout the preseason, each profile will highlight a player's background, recruiting rankings out of high school, and projected role under head coach Mike Elko. Jordan Lockhart was one of two linebackers taken in the 2024 class and saw minimal action while playing behind Taurean York, Scooby Williams, and Daymion Sanford. The position, outside of York, could see multiple changes due to the amount of talent available. With Coach Elko playing a more active role in the defense, the best players will take the field regardless of seniority. Defense will be the key to a successful season, especially stopping the run. The Aggie linebackers will be a pivotal part of keeping offenses in long-yardage situations and preventing teams from running out the clock late in games. Lockhart will need to work to earn regular playing time, but he is more than capable. Preseason Player Profile Recruiting Rankings (Class of 2024) The former four-star prospect, Lockhart, was a tackling machine in high school, racking up 149 tackles and 10 sacks. His performance earned him a selection to the 2024 Polynesian Bowl following his senior year. During his freshman season, he appeared in ten games and recorded 11 total tackles. Depth Chart Outlook Lockhart has demonstrated a nose for the ball, highlighted during the 2025 spring game when he snagged an interception. While Taurean York and Scooby Williams appear to be the current starting linebackers, Lockhart has proven he can make plays. He should be among the first off the bench and contribute on special teams.
