Saints training camp: Taysom Hill making progress after ACL injury
We shouldn't make too much of this, but it's still worth noting: Taysom Hill was spotted working at New Orleans Saints training camp on Sunday. The veteran pro suffered a torn ACL last December and has been slowly recovering from that knee injury. He's been seen observing practices a few times over the summer, but on Sunday he was wearing his jersey and going through drills with a member of the training staff, off to the side. That kind of conditioning work is common for players who have missed a lot of time due to injury. And that's real progress. It isn't the same as Hill being cleared for full-contact practice and getting activated from the PUP list, but it's progress all the same. There were questions being asked all offseason about whether or not he'd continue playing football, or do so as a member of the Saints. His salary cap hit is still the highest on the team at $17,986,500. And he's still on schedule to become a free agent in 2026 when his deal runs out, leaving behind $9,723,000 in dead money. Getting him healthy and practicing with his teammates is the first step to sorting out those concerns. Hill averaged a career-high 7.1 yards per attempt as a runner last season, scoring six touchdowns in eight games as a key piece of Klint Kubiak's offense. New head coach Kellen Moore has demurred when asked about his own plans for Hill, stressing the importance of getting the player healthy first. He's progressing towards that goal. Let's see what's in store for No. 7.

Taysom Hill's game-breaking 60-yard TD run is the Saints Play of the Day
Hill rushed for a career-high 112 yards on the Seahawks in 2022 Our countdown to the New Orleans Saints' 2025 season opener is on Day 60, which means we have an easy pick for the Saints Play of the Day: Taysom Hill's 60-yard touchdown run against the Seattle Seahawks back in 2022. You can see it for yourself right here. The Saints only needed one yard from Hill on the play to convert a first down, but he gave them a lot more. This was his third touchdown run of the day and it helped him rush for a career-high 112 yards on the grown, winning recognition as NFC Offensive Player of the Week. Seahawks cornerback Tariq Woolen tried to bring Hill down around the 12-yard line, but Hill fought through the contact to reach the end zone before falling to the turf. That gave the Saints a go-ahead score and just enough breathing room for Dennis Allen's defense to seal the deal. Hill is responsible for all three rushing attempts to gain 50 or more yards by Saints players since Drew Brees retired in 2021. This 60-yarder outdid his own 57-yard carry against the Atlanta Falcons a month earlier in 2022, but he reached a new high with a 75-yard touchdown run against the Cleveland Browns in 2024. He's remained a crucial piece of the New Orleans offense whether he's been listed as a quarterback or tight end, and we're hoping we haven't already seen the last of him as he rehabs a serious knee injury.

Taysom Hill could reunite with Sean Payton in Denver (Image via: Getty Images) The Denver Broncos may finally have a shot at reuniting Sean Payton with Taysom Hill. The versatile playmaker, long connected to Denver, could become available if the New Orleans Saints cut him this offseason. With the Broncos in need of offensive weapons, Hill's unique skill set could make him the perfect fit for Payton's 2025 game plan. Taysom Hill could be the missing piece in Sean Payton's 2025 offense The Denver Broncos have long been linked to Taysom Hill, the do-it-all weapon who rose to prominence under Sean Payton with the New Orleans Saints. Though Hill has stayed in New Orleans until now, multiple reports suggest he may be on the chopping block this offseason. Bleacher Report's Alex Kay believes that if Hill is cut, every NFL team should be interested. The Saints would save $10 million in cap space, and Hill's reduced role makes his release a realistic possibility. Denver Broncos Potentially Reuniting Taysom Hill With Sean Payton Is Risky David Latham of Last Word on Sports believes a Payton-Hill reunion would benefit both parties. 'Nobody loves Taysom Hill more than Sean Payton, so it only makes sense these two reunite away from the Saints,' Latham noted. " Hill's true value lies in his versatility—tight end, quarterback, runner, special teams contributor. He excels in short-yardage and red-zone scenarios, with the ability to throw, run, or block depending on the situation. His unpredictability creates constant headaches for opposing defenses. Hill's best years came with Drew Brees under center, when Payton regularly inserted him into high-impact moments. That formula could be recreated with Bo Nix, giving Denver a proven red-zone and trick-play weapon. Taysom Hill injury update: New Orleans Saints' versatile player faces uncertain ACL recovery timeline as new coaching staff reshapes 2025 offense
Taysom Hill (via Getty Images) In a league in which availability is a player's greatest strength, Taysom Hill's absence casts a shadow over the New Orleans Saints. The do-it-all offensive menace tore an ACL in Week 13 of the 2024 season, leaving his status for the 2025 season uncertain — and leaving the Saints to answer difficult questions regarding role, preparedness, and roster building. Taysom Hill's recovery schedule taints New Orleans Saints' future under new regime Taysom Hill, now in his age-35 season, was having one of the best years of his career when injury occurred. A central element of the New Orleans Saints' offense, his hybrid role — part tight end, part quarterback, part agitator — rendered him a mismatch nightmare for defenses. Not only is his loss a depth loss, but also a loss of schematic imagination. With ACL rehabilitation typically taking 9–12 months, the timing isn't great for a player whose game is founded on contact and explosiveness. Adding to the concern: Hill's advancing age and physical style of play create genuine questions about how well he can revitalize himself. Taysom Hill's 2023 performance, a career high in touches, indicated just how integral he'd become to the New Orleans Saints' playcalling under the prior regime. Moore and Nussmeier now have the challenge of constructing an offense without that luxury—and designing contingency plans in case Taysom Hill isn't the same player following rehab. More than a stat sheet Even as recovery holds him back on the field, Hill's impact is more than statistical. He's a locker room leader, a crowd favorite, and a tone-setter — a player who has redefined his NFL position several times and emerged stronger for it. His presence, if not necessarily his play, will remain significant. But the Saints can't rely on intangibles. In a wide-open division, the franchise requires answers, and Hill's uncertainty contributes to a lengthy list of offseason questions. A reminder of the NFL's unforgiving nature Taysom Hill's comeback is more than an individual comeback tale. It's a microcosm of the NFL's fragility — where one play can redefine a player's career and the direction of a team. The Saints now have to deal with the harsh reality of going on without one of their most unconventional weapons, hoping that when Hill does come back, he can still defy convention and expectation.
