Taysom Hill's game-breaking 60-yard TD run is the Saints Play of the Day
Our countdown to the New Orleans Saints' 2025 season opener is on Day 60, which means we have an easy pick for the Saints Play of the Day: Taysom Hill's 60-yard touchdown run against the Seattle Seahawks back in 2022. You can see it for yourself right here.
The Saints only needed one yard from Hill on the play to convert a first down, but he gave them a lot more. This was his third touchdown run of the day and it helped him rush for a career-high 112 yards on the grown, winning recognition as NFC Offensive Player of the Week.
Seahawks cornerback Tariq Woolen tried to bring Hill down around the 12-yard line, but Hill fought through the contact to reach the end zone before falling to the turf. That gave the Saints a go-ahead score and just enough breathing room for Dennis Allen's defense to seal the deal.
Hill is responsible for all three rushing attempts to gain 50 or more yards by Saints players since Drew Brees retired in 2021. This 60-yarder outdid his own 57-yard carry against the Atlanta Falcons a month earlier in 2022, but he reached a new high with a 75-yard touchdown run against the Cleveland Browns in 2024. He's remained a crucial piece of the New Orleans offense whether he's been listed as a quarterback or tight end, and we're hoping we haven't already seen the last of him as he rehabs a serious knee injury.

Tyreek Hill's call for a change at short-yardage tailback had already happened
Receiver Tyreek Hill's failure to show up in time for the team stretch only two days after saying it's 'very important' to do so wasn't the only unusual wrinkle for the Dolphins this weekend. On Friday, Hill told reporters that De'Von Achane shouldn't be the short-yardage tailback. On Sunday, coach Mike McDaniel made it clear that this has already happened. Hill was specifically asked about the reputation of the Dolphins as being a 'finesse' team. 'The short yardage issues, the running game issues last year. How do you change that identity?' Hill was asked. 'Take De'Von [Achane] out on third down — what?' Hill told reporters. 'That's my honest opinion. If it's third-and-short, he's not a power back. I keep telling him that in the locker room, but he swears he's a power back. I love De'Von, but if I'm being honest like that's why you got Jaylen Wright, that's why you got Ollie Gordon II, for those kind of situations.' On Sunday, McDaniel was asked about Hill's suggestion. McDaniel made it clear that what Hill wants has already happened. 'I thought it was genius reporting by Tyreek seeing how we had a short-yardage period that very day that you guys were in attendance for, and his suggestion was I guess congruent with [running backs coach Eric] Studesville — that's exactly how we repped the backs in that short-yardage period that very day. But we thought it was funny that he reported the news that wasn't news on that practice day in that short-yardage period that you guys were all there, too, for.' It's an odd little conflict that comes at a time when there are simmering issues between Hill and the Dolphins. He capped the 2024 regular season by saying he wants out of Miami. He reversed course with a sudden and unscheduled Super Bowl-week apology tour. Skepticism is justified. Scrutiny is merited. Especially with McDaniel saying what he said, only two days after Hill said what he said. It's not an ideal tone, at a time when the Dolphins generally seem to be trending in the wrong direction. And it makes us wonder whether Hill will still end up getting a one-way ticket out of Miami, if the team struggles early and if Hill decides to revert to his position that it's time to move on to a team that is more likely to contend. Of course, a contending team would want to trade for him. Based on what he's been saying and doing, all we can say is this: Buyer beware.

Angela Hill: 'I'm right there' for title shot with UFC on ESPN 72 win vs. Iasmin Lucindo
Angela Hill might be 40, but she still thinks her most glorious MMA moments still are on the horizon. Longtime octagon veteran Hill (18-14 MMA, 13-14 UFC) will take on 23-year-old Iasmin Lucindo (17-6 MMA, 4-2 UFC) on Saturday at UFC on ESPN 72, which takes place at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas (ESPN, ESPN+). With three victories in her past four fights, Hill sees herself on an upward trajectory in the strawweight division. She has no thoughts about retirement, and argues that beating a promising prospect who is 17 years her junior would be a statement about where she fits in the weight class. "I think I've really expanded the idea of what the window could be," Hill told MMA Junkie Radio. "I think just keeping that momentum going and see how long I can push it, see how good I can get, how high I can climb. I'm motivated by the close decisions I've lost because I feel like in an alternate universe, I would've fought for the belt by now. "It's more so the motivation of showing the potential I have before it's too late. That drives me every time I get in there. Now that I've been in the top 15 for a few years, I know I'm right there." Lucindo has had a quick rise through the 115-pound division, already racking up wins over former title challenger Karolina Kowalkiewicz and longtime contender Marina Rodriguez. The Brazilian is coming off a setback against Amanda Lemos at UFC 313 in March, and although Hill also has a loss to Lemos, she said it was much more competitive. Hill is not relying on MMA math to get the job done, but she sees vulnerabilities in Lucindo's game, and intends to take advantage. "If I'm fighting someone that likes to stand and bang, I'm like, 'Oh yeah, we're going to get that money,'" Hill said. "It's also nice because there's more opportunities to take advantage of someone with less experience. I feel like with her, because she's a little wild, because she comes in swinging wide and tries to throw big, there's moments where I can capitalize on that. I'm definitely excited."

49ers cut former Saints wide receiver just days after signing him
This is coldblooded. Former New Orleans Saints wide receiver Marquez Callaway spent even less time with the San Francisco 49ers than the player he was replacing, Equanimeous St. Brown (who, like Callaway, also played for the Saints). San Francisco waived Callaway on Aug. 3, just a few days after they signed him on July 31. The team announced they had signed wide receiver Robbie Chosen in a corresponding move; with star wideout Brandon Aiyuk still on the mend after last season's knee injury, they're working around the clock to find help for the receiving corps. Callaway, 27, signed with the Saints as a rookie free agent back in 2020, and he broke out in 2021 with 698 receiving yards, which led the team. He got bumped down the depth chart as New Orleans loaded up at wide receiver, and ended up trying out as a journeyman on half a dozen different teams, including the Saints and San Francisco. But the 49ers chose to go in a different direction. Chosen, 32, has totaled 379 receptions for 5,082 yards and 30 touchdowns in his 120-game career. His career started with the New York Jets as an undrafted free agent back in 2016, but he's best known for his years with the Arizona Cardinals. He recently suited up for the Arizona Cardinals and Miami Dolphins, but only caught one pass last season. He has previously gone by Robbie Anderson and Chosen Anderson. We'll see if Callaway or St. Brown get another shot elsewhere in the NFL.
