The processions, featuring tazias and 'alams' while participants performing 'matam', traversed various parts of the city before concluding at Badi Karbala Nawabganj and Bagahi Karbala.
The Muslims observe this day by offering charity, fasting, and praying in remembrance of Imam Hussain, the grandson of Prophet Muhammad, who attained martyrdom at Karbala in Iraq. Muharram is the first month in the Hijri calendar that marks the beginning of the new year for the Muslim community.
DCP (South), Deependra Nath Chaudhary, inspected security arrangements to ensure the peaceful conduct of the festival. He surveyed the procession route from Macharia-Basant Vihar-Yashoda Nagar to Karbala Naubasta, assessed police deployment, and issued directives to officers on duty. ACP Naubasta attended the inspection as well.
The district authorities had requested the 'Taziadars' to assist in maintaining social harmony during the festival.
Police were directed to patrol sensitive areas vigilantly and take action against anti-social elements.
The public was advised against spreading unverified information and encouraged to report suspicious activities. The DCP oversaw security, traffic management, and crowd control arrangements along the procession route.
Similarly, DCP (East), Satyajit Gupta, conducted security inspections along the procession route in Chakeri and Jajmau police station areas. He reviewed security deployments and issued instructions to personnel. The 'Taziadars' were asked to cooperate in maintaining harmony.
