Tejashwi promises disability ministry, quota to disabled

Patna: Leader of opposition in the state assembly, Tejashwi Prasad Yadav, on Wednesday promised to form a "divyang mantralaya" and "divyang ayog" for people with disabilities if the INDIA bloc came to power after the assembly elections. Addressing a conference on disability, Tejashwi also promised 5% reservation for the disabled people in govt jobs and a separate quota for them in panchayati raj and local bodies' elections among a total of 15 promises he made to them. He also asked them to vote for the INDIA bloc. He also assured reservation of beds for them in govt hospitals, as well as separate stadiums and coaches for those interested in sports and games. Stating that disabled people would start getting all these facilities once his govt comes to power, Tejashwi appealed to them to take a pledge to remove the current govt from power. "There is a govt in Bihar that drives away the poor and deprives them of their rights. We all need to come together to remove such a govt that does not work for you," Tejashwi said, asserting he might be young but is firm in his words. He claimed he delivered what he promised, citing that he provided govt jobs to over five lakh people during a tenure of 17-month Grand Alliance govt. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Adidas Three Shorts With 60% Discount, Limited Stock Available Original Adidas Shop Now Undo "Give me a chance, and I will work for your rights and entitlements," he said. He also reminded them about how the RJD president, Lalu Prasad, while he was the CM of Bihar, would visit the villages dominated by the poor and Dalits with fire tenders and get their hair cut and bathe them to teach the importance of cleanliness in life.

EC not giving us time for meeting: Tejashwi

Patna: Leader of opposition in the state assembly, Tejashwi Prasad Yadav , on Tuesday accused the Election Commission of frequently changing guidelines regarding the ongoing special intensive revision (SIR) of the electoral rolls in the state. He alleged that they ( RJD ) asked for a meeting with the poll body several times in the past week but received no response till date. Addressing reporters here, Tejashwi said after a close analysis of the SIR, it appears that the EC is acting at the behest of a particular party. He alleged that the EC itself looks confused given the way it has been making changes in its guidelines at repeated intervals. "We sought an appointment for a meeting with the EC several times in the past. Even on Monday, we asked for it but got no response," Tejashwi said on Tuesday. He was accompanied by state Congress president Rajesh Kumar and several senior RJD leaders. Stating that the poll body should have taken all parties into confidence before launching SIR ahead of the assembly polls, the RJD leader wondered about the "mysterious silence" of the EC, asking the latter to give a point-by-point reply to the issues raised by them. Tejashwi said the poll body must come forward to end the confusion gripping the minds of the common people without any delay. Asking the EC to immediately "revoke all arbitrary orders and issue a final, clear, and simple directive", Tejashwi sought the elimination of the requirement of documents for the SIR process. Questioning the launch of SIR during the monsoon, Tejashwi alleged that 90% of people in the state are of the opinion that the EC is acting to "delete the names of voters from booths where the opposition parties are in a strong position after identifying those booths." He alleged that dalits, adivasis, OBC/EBC, and minority class voters, could be the worst victims of the EC's current drive since the majority migrant workers from Bihar come from these communities. "If the EC really wants to weed out fake voters from the electoral rolls, it must have launched the exercise just after the conclusion of Lok Sabha polls," he said. ‘Grand-alliance is united, set to form next government in Bihar'

Politics in Bihar are in overdrive with the Assembly elections nearer. The ruling NDA faces the challenge of neutralising incumbency accumulated over the last two decades. The opposition Mahagathbandhan narrowly missed the chance to form the government in the previous election. RJD leader and former Deputy Chief Minister Tejashwi Prasad Yadav feels that he carries the responsibility to ensure that the Mahagathbandhan puts up a strong show in the polls and, if possible, wrest power from the NDA. Yadav spoke with Ramashankar on a range of issues related to his and the INDIA bloc's strategies. Excerpts: As chairman of the INDIA bloc's coordination committee for the Assembly poll, how do you cope with pressures from allies on seat-sharing? I am thankful to coalition partners for selecting me as chairman. We are working in tandem and aware of ground realities. We will resolve all issues, including seat-sharing, amicably. Several subcommittees are at work. I don't see any problem. How optimistic are you about the INDIA bloc's performance in the election? Are you sure about forming the government this time? We are very much hopeful of forming the next government as people are fed up with the ruling dispensation that has failed to meet their expectations. Everybody knows that Chief Minister Nitish Kumar is in 'achetawastha' (an unconscious state), as some retired bureaucrats and select ministers run the government. Even Nitish's close aides are no longer loyal to him, as their growing affinity with the BJP becomes evident time and again. What are the priority issues for the INDIA bloc in the coming election? Our focus will be on raising issues like unemployment, migration, corruption, deteriorating law and order, decrepit health infra, poor quality of education, lack of investments and industrialisation, lack of adequate irrigation facilities and poor condition of farmers. Will your Mai Bahin Samman Yojana make an impact on women when they already benefit from government schemes? NDA will also most probably announce a pro-women scheme before the election. The Yojana will bring about a remarkable change in the lives of women as various problems, including corruption, plague the schemes run by the present government. Our scheme will also have a huge significant impact, as women are becoming increasingly disenchanted with this government. Jan Suraaj Party founder Prashant Kishor is extensively touring Bihar and attracting huge crowds at his meetings. Would this party impact the INDIA bloc's performance? I cannot predict the performance of other parties in the election. Every party is making preparations for the polls. Jan Suraaj Party also has the full right to do so. Only time will tell how its entry into the electoral fray will make an impact. We find that Muslims are agitated over the Waqf Amendment Act, and you are also lending full support to them on the issue. Will it become an election plank? Of course, the opposition will raise the issue in the election. The Act has been brought in to harass a particular section of society, and we will oppose it tooth and nail. The Act has created fear among Muslims as its implementation will have wide-ranging implications. Your elder brother. Tej Pratap Yadav has been expelled from the party as well as from the family—what's your take? RJD chief Lalu Prasad has made the decision, and his decision is supreme. I cannot add anything more to it. Some issues related to a person's personal life cannot be discussed in public forums. What about PM Modi's frequent visits to Bihar? His visits put a huge burden on the public exchequer. We estimate he spends `100 crore on each visit. He has visited Bihar 200 times, and therefore, he must have spent public money worth Rs 20,000 crore on political purposes under the guise of official programmes.

BJP, RJD spar over Tejashwi's waqf remarks

Patna: A fresh political confrontation erupted on Monday over leader Tejashwi Prasad Yadav's controversial remark that he would throw the new waqf law "into the dustbin" if elected to power in Bihar. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now The strongly criticised the statement, accusing the RJD-Congress-Left alliance of attempting to stir Muslim sentiments. In response, Tejashwi and his allies vowed to intensify their opposition to what they described as the BJP's "communal agenda". BJP spokesperson Sudhanshu Trivedi accused Tejashwi of promoting anti-constitutional views and supporting the imposition of Sharia law. In his counter, Tejashwi defended his comments and drew a parallel with Prime Minister Narendra Modi's withdrawal of the farm laws. "Jo gair-samvaidhanik hai usko ekdam nahi lagoo hone denge. Kya Modi ji hin kuredan mein dal sakte hain?" he said while speaking to reporters in Jamui, reiterating that unconstitutional laws would not be allowed to take effect. Trivedi alleged that RJD and Congress leaders were more concerned with appeasing religious leaders than addressing minority welfare. "By bowing down before the Mullahs and Maulavis, they want to convert 'Samajwad' into 'Namazwad'. Pakke Namazwadi hain — RJD ho ya Congress — kitni tadap hain kathmulla voto ki pyaas mein. There are two choices before Bihar: an alliance that would push Sharia through the back door, and our government, which upholds Baba Saheb's Constitution," he said. Union minister Giriraj Singh also attacked the RJD leader and said, "The law passed by Parliament can only be opposed by people like these. Lalu Prasad, Tejashwi's father, drowned in corruption while promoting dynasty politics. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now Bihar will never accept the imposition of Sharia laws." However, Tejashwi countered that the BJP's politics of religion and caste would not succeed. "We are descendants of Lord Krishna. If a person from the Yadav or backward community becomes the narrator of the Bhagavad Gita, BJP leaders want his head shaved. That is their true character," he claimed. He also questioned the BJP's legacy in the freedom struggle. "These people were slaves of the British," he alleged.

Tejashwi promises commission for Vaishya community

Patna: Leader of opposition, Tejashwi Prasad Yadav , on Sunday promised to form Vaishya commission for the welfare of the community and deployment of police outside major markets for the security of traders, if the Grand Alliance govt was formed after the assembly elections. He asked the Vaishya community members to vote for the RJD and the Grand Alliance partners. Tejashwi was addressing the Rashtriya Vaishya Mahasabha (RVM) conference here. The RVM is led by former industries minister Sameer Kumar Mahaseth. "You have given around 20 years to them (CM Nitish Kumar-led NDA govt). Give me an opportunity to serve the state as its CM for five years. We will develop Bihar and also initiate welfare activities for all of you," Tejashwi said. Tejashwi said the RJD has always given political representation to the Vaishya community. "The Grand Alliance had given tickets to 12 candidates from the trading communities. Of them, eight won, including five on the RJD ticket. We have honoured leaders like Ram Chandra Purbe, and Prem Gupta, has been Rajya Sabha member for 30 years," Tejashwi said. The RJD leaders from the trading communities present on the occasion called Tejashwi a "visionary young leader. " Pointing out that around 100 traders had been killed in different parts of the state this year till June this year, he said, "We will improve the law and order situation, and no one will be spared, whosoever he is."
