Man charged following fatal Manitoba shooting: RCMP

THE CANADIAN PRESS/Jason Franson A 24-year-old man has been charged in connection with a fatal shooting over the weekend in Teulon, Man. Donavin Skogan of Traverse Bay was charged on Wednesday with second-degree murder and intimidation of a justice system participant following the death of a 37-year-old man on July 13. He was detained in custody and the charges have not been proven in court. Skogan is scheduled to appear in court later Thursday. Stonewall RCMP responded to a home on 7th Avenue SE in Teulon at 10:40 p.m. on July 13, where they found the victim with life-threatening injuries. He was taken to hospital, where he later died from his injuries. RCMP said another officer found a vehicle believed to be involved in the incident and tried a traffic stop. The driver drove away, ending up in a cornfield where he was arrested and a firearm was seized. In addition to the homicide charges, Skogan was also charged with multiple firearms related and driving offences.

Man charged with 2nd-degree murder in deadly Teulon shooting, RCMP say
A 24-year-old man has been charged with second-degree murder after a fatal shooting in Teulon, Man. Donavin Skogan was arrested after Stonewall RCMP responded to a report of a shooting at a home on Seventh Avenue S.E. on July 13 in the town of about 1,200 people, which is about 60 kilometres north of Winnipeg in the Interlake region, Mounties said in a news release Thursday. Officers found a 37-year-old man with life-threatening injuries who was taken to hospital and later pronounced dead. While police were at the Seventh Avenue home, an officer on patrol found a vehicle believed to have been involved in the man's death and tried to do a traffic stop, police said previously. That led to a pursuit that ended when the vehicle drove into a cornfield. Police said they contained the area, arrested the person who was inside the vehicle and found and seized a firearm. Police said at the time they weren't looking for any more suspects in the homicide. Skogan, who is from Traverse Bay, was initially charged with firearms and driving offences on July 14. Two days later, he was charged with murder and intimidation of a justice system participant. He was remanded back into custody and is set to appear before a court later Thursday, RCMP said.

37-year-old man killed in Teulon, Man., suspect arrested after chase into cornfield
A 24-year-old man is in custody after a man died following a shooting Sunday in Teulon, Man. Stonewall RCMP said they responded to reports of a shooting at 10:40 p.m. Sunday at a home on Seventh Avenue S.E. in Teulon, a town of about 1,200 people located about 60 kilometres north of Winnipeg in the Interlake region. A 37-year-old man with life-threatening injuries was taken to hospital and later pronounced dead, RCMP said in a news release Monday morning. Police were still at the home where the shooting happened when another officer, who was on patrol, found a car police believe was involved in the homicide and tried to stop it. The car took off, and when RCMP followed, it drove into a cornfield, the news release said. The area was contained and the 24-year-old man was arrested, RCMP said in the news release. A firearm was also found and seized.

Man killed in deadly shooting; RCMP make arrest
The Manitoba RCMP has made an arrest after a man was fatally shot in Teulon, Man., over the weekend. The investigation began on Sunday at 10:40 p.m. when officers learned of a shooting at a home on 7th Avenue SE. When officers got to the scene, they found a 37-year-old man with life-threatening injuries. He was taken to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead. An officer on patrol then spotted a vehicle believed to be involved in the homicide. Following a failed traffic stop, a car chase ensued until the suspect drove his vehicle into a cornfield. Police contained the area, arrested the driver, and seized a gun. A 24-year-old man is in police custody. Officers are not searching for any other suspects. RCMP continues to investigate.
