Who will play Voldemort in the new Harry Potter series?
HBO have reportedly found who will play Voldemort in the upcoming Harry Potter series. The newest adaptation of the wizard book series recently showed off photos of Dominic McLoughlin on set as Harry, and Nick Frost playing Hagrid on set. But despite the cast pretty much confirmed for all roles, one name is yet to be attached to the most important character in the series — Voldemort. While HBO reportedly have cast the Dark Lord, they want to keep him a secret — but hasn't stopped the rumour mill, with several names being floated as to who could play him; including one of our own. Once again, Cillian Murphy is being floated to play a villain. Pic: Brian McEvoy When you win an Oscar, you immediately become a hot commodity — with Cillian being a hot favourite to take over the role. Fans of the series are already on board with Cillian potentially being Voldemort, including the film series' villain Ralph Fiennes, who gave his seal of approval on the Corkonian taking on the role. 'Cillian is a fantastic actor,' Ralph said. 'That's a wonderful suggestion. I would be all in favour of Cillian. Yeah.' The Welsh actor has played villains before, with some reckoning that he'd be a perfect fit for Voldemort. Christian has played villains in his most recent films, including Gorr the God butcher in Thor: Love and Thunder, and is set to play Frankenstein's Monster in The Bride!, the most recent adaptation of Bride of Frankenstein. So surely he can make room to play another bad guy! Matt has played villains before, with people wondering if he'd be the actor to take on the role. And again, why not? While he may be best known as The Doctor, Matt has had no issue playing a villain — perhaps he could be on board to take on the role of He Who Shall Not Be Named. And yet, some are clamouring for the original Voldemort himself, Ralph Fiennes, to reprise his role. Playing the role of Voldemort from 2005 to 2011 across four films, many associate the villain role with Ralph. However, he has kept mum on if he'd reprise the role; but gave good advice to whomever will take on the role of the evil wizard. 'Make sure you can handle the long flowing robes and don't trip over them,' Ralph said. 'Practice your long flowing robe walk.' Fair enough.

With studio chiefs in the hot seat, Warner Bros. bets on an ambitious film lineup
LAS VEGAS — As Warner Bros.' embattled studio heads Pam Abdy and Mike De Luca confidently unveiled their upcoming films to movie theater owners in the Caesars Palace Colosseum on Tuesday evening, there was little to suggest a studio in trouble. During their presentation at CinemaCon — the movie business' trade show in Las Vegas — they elicited cheers after bringing out Leonardo DiCaprio, Regina Hall and Teyana Taylor to promote their upcoming film, 'One Battle After Another.' They got the audience to collectively groan in horror at a particularly gory clip from 'Final Destination: Bloodlines' involving an MRI machine, body piercings and a vending machine spring. And they introduced the star of 'The Bride!' as well as Superman himself, David Corenswet, who walked on stage to the 'Superman' score with co-stars Rachel Brosnahan and Nicholas Hoult. 'It's a great honor to play a role that exists so clearly in the public consciousness,' Corenswet said onstage, after receiving loud applause. And yet, Abdy and De Luca's future — and the success of Warner Bros.' film bets — is far from certain. After a string of box office disappointments and grumblings about high budgets, rumors have been swirling that De Luca and Abdy's days at the top of the nearly 102-year-old studio are numbered, which the studio has denied. In October, the Burbank studio's highly anticipated 'Joker: Folie à Deux' was a dud, falling far short of expectations despite a reported budget of at least $190 million before marketing. Director Todd Phillips was given much freedom to make his divisive musical sequel starring Joaquin Phoenix and Lady Gaga. The gamble backfired. Then in March, Oscar-winning director Bong Joon Ho's sci-fi thriller 'Mickey 17' struggled at the box office. The film has made only $121 million globally, despite a reported budget of $118 million. The Robert De Niro-led mob movie 'The Alto Knights' also bombed with $9 million. The studio is counting on the family-friendly and video game-inspired 'A Minecraft Movie,' which comes out in theaters this weekend, to turn its fortunes around. It's expected to open with about $60 million in domestic ticket sales. (Jeff Goldstein, Warner Bros. president of global theatrical distribution, told the Colosseum crowd Tuesday that advance sales have been 'impressive.') The presentation featured some high-stakes gambles. De Luca and Abdy have bet on big budget projects by auteur directors not based on tested intellectual property, the kinds of movies that make risk-averse studio chiefs sweat bullets. The executives showed footage for 'One Battle After Another,' a $130-million crime thriller written and directed by acclaimed filmmaker Paul Thomas Anderson. 'It's an incredibly epic movie,' DiCaprio said onstage. They also showed footage from Maggie Gyllenhaal's 'The Bride!,' which will arrive in theaters next year and has a reported budget of $80 million. Abdy told the crowd Tuesday night that 'audiences will be knocked out' by Gyllenhaal's take on the classic Mary Shelley story of 'Frankenstein,' saying it 'introduces us to a world that could only spring from Maggie's brilliant imagination.' 'It will rock your world,' De Luca added. There was also footage from Zach Cregger's 'Weapons,' a summer horror film about an entire classroom of children that goes missing, and a video message from Ryan Coogler to promote his upcoming film 'Sinners.' 'There's a lot to look forward to over the next year,' Abdy said. Attendees leaving the Colosseum on Tuesday night mused that the presentation gave them confidence in the studio's slate of films. 'Warner Bros. showcased a lot of reason to be optimistic about their slate as the CinemaCon presentation highlighted a number of high-potential, diverse, and commercially attractive releases later this year and beyond,' said Shawn Robbins, founder of film business analysis site Box Office Theory. Some of the studio's box office struggles predate Abdy and De Luca's tenure and were projects green-lighted by a previous regime. De Luca and Abdy were named to lead the storied studio in 2022, replacing Toby Emmerich. They previously helmed MGM's movie operations, where they championed filmmaker-driven movies such as Anderson's 'Licorice Pizza' and Ridley Scott's 'House of Gucci.' Amazon had closed an $8.5-billion deal to purchase MGM, home of the 'Creed' and James Bond films. Nonetheless, the string of flops has led to questions about their leadership and created uncertainty at the studio, which has already gone through a major shakeup this year. Marketing chief Josh Goldstine and international film distribution head Andrew Cripps announced their departures in January. The pressure on the film division comes as Warner Bros. Discovery Chief Executive David Zaslav has taken much interest in its operations. The company is saddled with billions of dollars in debt and has slashed thousands of jobs to cut costs. The perceived instability of the film studio's leadership has made some filmmakers wary about setting up projects with Warner Bros., especially those that may need development, said a Hollywood insider who requested anonymity to protect relationships. Warner Bros. rebutted speculation that Abdy and De Luca's jobs are in jeopardy. In a statement to Bloomberg, company spokesperson Robert Gibbs said that 'the rumor of an imminent leadership change at the studio is not accurate.' Under De Luca and Abdy's watch, the studio relaunched its animation division, which has five films in production, including 'The Cat in the Hat.' Subsidiary New Line Cinema has franchise installments, including 'The Conjuring: Last Rites' and a 'Mortal Kombat' sequel. (After a 'Final Destination: Bloodlines' clip, Brenner, with a deadpan expression, said, 'See you at the Oscars.') For De Luca, joining Warner Bros was a bit of a homecoming. He'd previously served as New Line's president of production until he was fired in 2001 after a run of box office flops. His replacement was Emmerich. Both De Luca and Abdy are known for their taste and being filmmaker friendly. De Luca produced 'The Social Network,' while Abdy did 'Garden State' and 'Queen & Slim.' Fellow Warner Bros. executives on stage for the CinemaCon presentation offered praise and support for Abdy and De Luca's leadership, as well as the studio's future. Bill Damaschke, president of Warner Bros. Pictures Animation, thanked the pair onstage for allowing him to join the team, saying their shared vision was 'truly inspiring.' 'Telling original stories and taking risks is the only path toward creating new global franchises,' Damaschke said.

Maggie Gyllenhaal's ‘The Bride!' Sneak Peek Drops F-Bomb, Smashes Skulls
Warner Bros. has a lot of hope and belief in Maggie Gyllenhaal's 'The Bride!', a highly stylized and brutally violent take on the tale of the Frankenstein Monster and his Bride set in Great Depression Chicago. They have so much belief that earlier this month they moved the release date of the film back from fall to March 2026, the month from which they turned 'Dune: Part Two' and 'Godzilla x Kong' into major box office hits. To show theaters why they're so hyped, film division chiefs Pam Abdy and Michael De Luca brought Gyllenhaal and star Jessie Buckley onstage to talk about the film and show the first trailer. The trailer is incredibly brutal, opening with a slow-motion image of Buckley playing the Bride in the accident that killed her, her limbs slowly snapping and her body splayed out on the ground. She is then brought back to life, all memory of her past lost and black ooze pouring from her lips, much to the delight of the gruesomely stitched Frankenstein Monster, played by Christian Bale. The trailer then shows the couple fighting to survive in a violent Chicago, with the Monster willing to kill anyone who dares threaten them. The Bride watches shocked as her horrific husband slams an attacker's skull into a wall until blood is pouring down the wall, and as he stands triumphant over the corpse, he hisses, 'Til death do us part.' And just to punch home how in-your-face this film will be, here's the tagline shown in bright orange letters: 'Here. Comes. The. Fucking. Bride.' In 1935, Elsa Lanchester played the famous Bride of Frankenstein in the Boris Karloff film of the same name, instantly becoming a timeless horror icon. But Gyllenhaal, who first got the idea for the film after being captivated by a man's tattoo of the Bride, sees potential for that character to become something never seen before on the big screen. 'In the original, the Bride is in the movie for about three minutes and doesn't speak, which could not be more different than ours,' she said. 'I'm really interested in monsters and I think that all of us have a little aspect of something monstrous in us. Monsters in our movie do monstrous things, but they're also our heroes.' Warner Bros has just made some razor-sharp release-date changes ahead of CinemaCon, ones that could potentially keep the Burbank, CA lot more toward the black this year than in the red. In a year when there were four $100 million-plus auteur-driven movies — one of which, Bong Joon Ho's Mickey 17, recently misfired — Warners Bros distribution has taken the pressure off the studios' schedule in that regard, and even placed a potential tentpole into the year: Zach Cregger's anticipated genre movie on August 8. What kept Warners from moving the pic starring Josh Brolin, Julia Garner and Alden Ehrenreich was that the theatrical release was tied to Imax screens — can't give up those auditoriums. In fact, what made all of the release-date changes feasible for Warners was that each was tied to Imax bookings. As one insider called the release shifts revealed Wednesday, 'we lifted and shifted.' Weapons will go toe-to-toe with Disney's female-skewing sequel Freakier Friday. The Weapons move pushes Paul Thomas Anderson's priciest movie of his career, the Leonardo DiCaprio action comedy One Battle After Another, from August 8 to September 26 (which is where Maggie Gyllenhaal's The Bride! was). It was out there in the ether that the PTA movie, which also stars Sean Penn, Benicio Del Toro and Regina Hall, would move; it just wasn't clear to where. What makes this date special is that Warners will not only have access to Imax hubs but also select theaters that play 70mm and VistaVision. Brady Corbet's 3x Oscar-winning The Brutalist shot in VistaVision. It's TBD if the PTA movie gets a fall film festival launch. Word is that it's not always his preference to launch that way, but he's done it before: His 2014 movie Inherent Vice (also a Warners release) premiered at the New York Film Festival, while 2012's The Master world premiered at Venice. PTA's latest, which reportedly costs around $140M, will now release opposite Lionsgate's Saw XI and Universal's Gabby's Dollhouse: The Movie. The Bride! now will go on March 6, 2026, putting the genre movie in a month that has been primed for tentpoles, i.e., Legendary/Warner Bros' Dune: Part Two, A24's Everything Everywhere All at Once, Warner Bros' The Batman, and Kong: Skull Island and Godzilla vs. Kong. This was the movie that Warners saved after Netflix passed on the project. Warner Bros Pictures Animation's The Cat in the Hat, from directors Alessandro Carloni and Erica Rivinoja, now rolls up one week from March 6, 2026 to February 27, 2026. That's a week before Disney/Pixar's Hoppers debuts on March 6. Also, the new date for Cat in Hat gives the family feature an advantage with some promotional opportunities overseas. Now Cat in the Hat, with a voice cast including Bill Hader, Quinta Brunson, Bowen Yang, Xochitl Gomez, Matt Berry and Paula Pell, will share the marquee with Paramount/Spyglass' Scream 7. Meanwhile, David Robert Mitchell's sci-fi movie Flowervale Street starring Anne Hathaway and Ewan McGregor goes from March 13, 2026 to August 14, 2026. The studio believes it's a commercial movie and has snapped up a better date to take advantage of last-minute summer audiences. Flowervale Street stands alone currently as the sole major-studio wide entry.
