Joseph Gordon-Levitt Argues 'Your Digital Self Should Belong To You' At UN Internet Forum
Addressing this week's UN Internet Governance Forum, Joseph Gordon-Levitt said he wanted to focus on one basic principle. 'Your digital self should belong to you. That the data that humans produce — or writings and our voices and the connections that the make, our ideas — should belong to us. And that any economic value that's generated from this data should be shared with the humans that produce it,' he said in a short speech. Just yesterday, a federal judge ruled that Meta's unauthorized use of copyrighted works from Sarah Silverman and other authors to train generative AI models is a 'fair use,' but warned that the practice may in many circumstances be illegal. The actual impacts of AI, said Gordon-Levitt in a fireside chat at the UN Forum, could be very broad. 'I think that the impact could mean that creativity as we know it sort of goes away, to be really honest. I hate to put it in grave terms. That's a worst-case scenario, but I think it's on the table. I don't think it has to happen that way. I think if we all figure out how to steer the ship, so to speak, the technology could be a wonderful thing for creativity, and we're sort of at that crossroads right now.' The Buccaneers Season 2 Premiere: Leighton Meester Makes Dramatic Entrance as [Spoiler]'s Mother
Leighton Meester may have traded in her Upper East Side pearls for The Buccaneers' English corsets, but the girl's gossiping days are far from over. Season 2 of the Apple TV+ drama premiered on Wednesday, picking up right where we left off: Nan's wedding day. In case you need a refresher, Season 1 ended with Nan deciding to marry Theo and gaining the duchess title in order to protect both her sister Jinny and mother Patti, who've left their respective spouses. This all came at a personal cost to Nan: She had just professed her love to Guy, who is now M.I.A. after offering to protect Jinny in hideout. (Read finale recap.) As if that all weren't messy enough, the Season 2 premiere sees Patti's fiery sister, Nelle (played by Meester), showing up at the wedding uninvited to give viewers a game-changing piece of information: She is Nan's biological mother. (We learned Patti wasn't Nan's biological mother last season.) Nelle apparently had an affair with Patti's husband back when she was 18, and the sisters haven't spoken since. Nelle and Patti face off in a backroom during the wedding reception, with Patti admitting she blamed Nelle more than her own husband for the long-ago affair. But the two ultimately make up and head back to America together — leaving the philandering Tracy to fend for himself abroad. Meanwhile, Nan is clueless to Nelle's real identity, though the two seem drawn to each other. Midway through her wedding festivities, Nan randomly confesses all her anxieties to Nelle. Only later, at the end of the episode, Nan asks Patti, 'How long ago did you fall out?' Patti tells the 19-year-old Nan that it's been 19 years since Patti last spoke with her sister. Nan already knows Patti isn't her birth mom, but she hasn't been made aware of her birth mom's identity. Now, a knowing look flashes across her face; the Duchess is seemingly piecing together that the family fallout might be related to the maternity mystery. The episode ends with Nan strengthening her bond with her own faraway sister — whose disappearance has caused much speculation in the press — by making a mess of her own. Taking her mother-in-law's advice, Nan decides to use her first official event as Duchess of Tintagel as an opportunity to show the world how she intends to behave: Instead of arriving to the formal affair in a black dress, and standing off to the side behind her Duke husband, the rebellious American arrives in a scandalous red gown — stealing the spotlight and replacing her sister's story on the front-page news. Meet Leighton Meester's New Character In ‘The Buccaneers' Season 2 Trailer As Nan Tries To 'Let Go' Of Guy
The full trailer for Season 2 of Apple TV+'s period drama The Buccaneers has arrived, and it teases more sisterhood, romance, love affairs, bold declarations, bright gowns, breathtaking landscapes and a plot twist or two. The second season welcomes series newcomer Leighton Meester, whose character Nell can be seen at the end of the clip asking Christina Hendricks' Patricia St. George to introduce her to Kristine Frøseth's Nan St. George. 'Everything before 'I do' is now irrelevant,' Theo's mother, the Dowager Duchess of Tintagel (Amelia Bullmore) tells Nan in the woods, sternly advising Nan to be faithful to her husband. 'All Theo needs to know is that he has a dutiful and loving wife, but Annabel, anyone can be a wife. You are…' 'A Duchess,' Nan completes. 'I really want to make this version of my life work. I have to let Guy go.' The clip features Chappell Roan's 'Good Luck Babe,' continuing the tradition established in Season 1 with a modern soundtrack of mostly women artists. Cue Guy's voiceover perspective as he and Jinny escape somewhere bright and sunny with Jinny's baby. 'Everything has changed except the way I feel,' he says as he looks at the newspaper headlines, which tell him what is happening in Nan's world, advertising her honeymoon with Theo. 'Theo thinks this is real,' Nan tells her mother. 'He thinks I chose to marry him.' 'You did the bravest thing I have ever known,' Patty tells Nan. 'And saved your sister.' Nan fiercely stands up to Lord Seadown both one on one and at a dining table full of guests. 'No man should be allowed to own his wife,' she asserts. Cut to a triumphant walk by Nan in a bright red dress with a bold hairstyle as guests turn heads. 'Happily Ever After' flashes in bright neon blue across the long train of her dress. More musical moments and needle drops in Season 2 will include Taylor Swift, as well as songs from Lady Gaga, Sabrina Carpenter, Gracie Abrams, Clairo, Sharon Van Etten, St. Vincent, Bleachers and The Last Dinner Party. The original soundtrack for season two celebrates the return of executive music producer Stella Mozgawa and features Empress Of's new single 'Little Secret' out today with the trailer along with new music from Suki Waterhouse, Madi Diaz, Holly Humberstone, Kacy Hill, Jade Bird, Emily Kokal of Warpaint and more. ‘The Buccaneers' Season 2 Soundtrack: From Griff To Sabrina Carpenter
With its first season Apple TV+'s The Buccaneers made a name for itself with its focus on all women musicians featured in the show's soundtrack, with needle drops like Taylor Swift's 'Nothing New,' Japanese Breakfast's 'Be Sweet,' Brandi Carlile's 'Broken Horses' and Bikini Kill's 'Rebel Girl' featured in the first season, to name a few. Swift's 'Nothing New' was used in the scene where Nan St. George (Kristine Frøseth) and her friends made their society debut, similar to the procession of Netflix's Bridgerton in white dresses and feathers. Later on in the first season, songs like 'Kissing Lessons' by Lucy Dacus, 'Cedar' by Gracie Abrams,' 'Bite the Hand' by boygenius, 'Want Want' by Maggie Rogers' and another Taylor Swift anthem, 'Long Live' highlighted the high stakes of Nan's decisions. Season 2 continues in the vein of mostly women artsits featured on the soundtrack. It also features Chloé Caillet's remix of 'North American Scum' by the Emily Kokal featuring Miya Folick. Jennifer Smuckler and Christina Azarian serve as music leads on the show, and Stella Mozgawa worked as executive music producer, collaborating with artists for certain songs featured in later episodes.
