This year's Abu Dhabi's Eid Al Etihad celebrations have been announced
Abu Dhabi is about to get lit – literally. The 54th edition of the UAE's National Day (now proudly called Eid Al Etihad, meaning 'Festival of the Union') is just around the corner, and if previous years are anything to go by, we're in for a dazzling display of heritage, technology and a whole lot of wow-factor. Every December 2, the UAE marks its historic unification – when the seven emirates came together to form a bold new nation back in 1971. But this isn't just a public holiday; it's a full-on cultural extravaganza that celebrates Emirati pride, futuristic ambition and the people who call this country home. What's happening this year? While the full line-up is still under wraps, you can expect the usual suspects: massive fireworks, jaw-dropping drone shows and immersive storytelling that brings the UAE's past, present and future to life. If previous celebrations are any clue, the capital is likely to be the centre stage again. In 2022, synchronised drones danced above water. In 2023, AI-generated visuals transported audiences across time. In 2024, camels, constellations and desert mountains set the scene in Al Ain. In 2025? Think bigger. Think brighter. Think next-level tech mixed with timeless tradition – and maybe even a surprise A-list concert thrown into the mix. Here's what's likely on the cards: Fireworks everywhere – From Yas Island to the Corniche, the skies over Abu Dhabi are expected to light up in green, red, white and black. Drone storytelling shows – They've become a staple of the celebration, and you can bet they'll be even more advanced this year. Free public festivities – Think cultural performances, traditional parades, dance shows and more. (Pro tip: head to Al Maryah Island or downtown Abu Dhabi for the action.) Concerts and surprise pop-ups – Previous years saw a mix of local and international talent. Could 2025 bring another chart-topper to the capital? We're watching closely. Shopping and dining deals – Expect major discounts across malls, hotels and restaurants, especially in tourist hotspots like Yas Bay, Saadiyat and The Galleria. Traffic fine discounts? – In 2024, drivers in four emirates got 50 percent off. Will it return in 2025? Fingers crossed. Free public parking – Keep an eye on Parkonic announcements in Abu Dhabi closer to the date. Planning your break The holiday falls on Tuesday, December 2 and Wednesday, December 3 – so if you play your annual leave cards right (hello, December 1, 4 and 5), you could score a nine-day break. Perfect for a staycation, desert escape, or road trip with friends and family. Eid Al Etihad isn't just a few days of fireworks – it's a month-long moment of reflection and celebration. Expect the skyline to be bathed in national colours, Emirati music to fill every corner of the city and people from all walks of life to come together in joy. One thing's for sure: the UAE knows how to throw a celebration – and at 54 years strong, the energy is only growing. Keep your cameras ready and your National Day flags high – this is going to be one for the books. 'Store closing' sale launched at Parachute's only Twin Cities location
'Store closing' sale launched at Parachute's only Twin Cities location originally appeared on Bring Me The News. Another retailer appears to be leaving The Galleria, with home essentials brand Parachute set to depart three years after opening its doors. Signs advertising "store closing" discounts were spotted at the store on Thursday. The store was the first location in Minnesota for the California-based chain and it was also the largest in the company's history at the time. The retailer quickly gained a cult following for its bedding, and grew to include bedroom, kitchen, bath, and baby accessories. News of the closure comes as several other high-profile tenants have left The Galleria to go across the street to Southdale Center. High-end retailers David Yurman, Tiffany & Co, and Louis Vuitton are making the move to Southdale's new luxury wing, which opened on June 12. Parachute sells goods online, and has brick and mortar locations in California, Colorado, Oregon, Washington, Texas and New York. Novikov is opening in Abu Dhabi and it's absolutely gorgeous
Abu Dhabi's dining scene just got a serious glow-up. Novikov, the internationally acclaimed restaurant known for its high-profile London flagship and globally inspired menus, is officially opening its doors at The Galleria on Al Maryah Island – and it's nothing short of spectacular. Making its debut with a new Mediterranean concept, Novikov Abu Dhabi blends the sun-drenched flavours of coastal Italy, Southern France, Greece, Spain and Portugal into one stylish, ingredient-forward menu. You may also like: 20+ new restaurants in Abu Dhabi It's a bold move that perfectly matches the capital's rising reputation as a culinary and cultural hub. Inside, the space is pure escapism. Real olive trees line the floors, hand-painted artworks adorn the walls and sculptural lighting gives the interiors a warm, golden glow. The restaurant flows between a statement open kitchen, a chic bar, a lively main dining room and a private dining space. A waterfront terrace overlooking Al Maryah Island's glittering promenade will open later in the season, promising perfect views for golden-hour dining and late-night lounging. At the centre of it all is executive chef Marco Lubian, who along with head chef Alberto Dorigo, brings a soulful, technique-driven approach to Mediterranean cuisine. Starters include fresh buffalo burrata with sweet cherry tomatoes, delicate tuna carpaccio with foie gras and truffle and a refined beef carpaccio topped with rocket, parmesan flakes and more truffle. For mains, highlights include charcoal-grilled octopus served with roasted potatoes and padrón peppers, lobster linguini in a rich tomato sauce and a deeply satisfying mushroom and truffle risotto. Desserts are just as thoughtful, with a standout meringue cake, a tart-sweet lemon Amalfi made with lemon jam and yuzu ganache and a scoop of velvety gelato topped with Amarena cherries – Chef Marco's personal favourite. In a nod to its London roots, a few of Novikov's Asian favourites have made the trip to Abu Dhabi, including the wildly popular Wagyu tacos and the dramatic wasabi king crab leg, served tableside. The Novikov experience doesn't stop at the table. As night falls, the venue transforms into a sleek, after-dark destination with live piano performances and curated DJ sets from Tuesday to Saturday. The bar buzzes with conversation and Mediterranean-style mixed drinks, and there's also an extensive grape list to choose from. Reservations are open now and yes, it's already the place to be seen. Opens Fri Jun 13. Sun-Thurs (12pm-1am), Fri-Sat (12pm-2am). Al Maryah Island, (02 563 2937). Did you know GAIA was coming to Abu Dhabi?
From supreme seafood to Mediterranean classics… Beloved concept GAIA could soon be making its way to the UAE capital, and whether you're a connoisseur of Mediterranean fare or just a fan of new openings, this is one to watch out for. The brainchild of popular Dubai chef Izu Ani, GAIA is expected to set up shop in Abu Dhabi in 2025, in addition to expanding to other locations in region. It will bring its celebrated menu of freshly-caught fare and Mediterranean marvels to the capital's diners – upping Abu Dhabi's growing reputation as a regional and gastronomic destination of choice. While we're not entirely sure of where GAIA could take shape in Abu Dhabi, we're willing to wager that it might be on its way to The Galleria Al Maryah Island, or to Mamsha Al Saadiyat – both classy dining hubs that are home to famed international concepts. Around the world, the 2018-founded brand has won hearts in Marbella (Spain), Monaco, London, and in neighbouring Dubai. At GAIA, diners have grown to love signature elements such as their feted ice counter that captures the essence of the sea. Whether you're a travel enthusiast, love Greek food, or just read about it here, you'll have realised the relevance of the sea in Greek culture and in their kitchens, so the 'ice market' is one draw we can't wait for. It features a quality selection of fish, shellfish and seafood from the Mediterranean Sea. While raw picks such as the tuna with truffle and Greek salad with mountain tomatoes are the ideal opener, their chefs recommend the right cooking technique depending on the type of fish you pick – these include grilled, baked ala spaciota, and harissa-style, for added kick. Mains like the king crab stew and black truffle pasta are also sure to have the diners lining up when GAIA docks in the UAE capital. Abu Dhabi's beloved Antonia is opening in Dubai
Dubai is finally getting a taste of Antonia… Italian capital hotspot Antonia is growing, and Dubai is the next destination. The spot, specialising in Pizza Al Taglio – a Roman variety of our favourite flatbread that literally means 'pizza by the slice', will be opening doors in Mall of the Emirates. This type of pizza traditionally comes in squares and makes for some epic street eats, and after serving the streets of Abu Dhabi in multiple locations, they're now blessing us Dubai folk with their first outpost in the city. Back in Abu Dhabi, Antonia already has locations in Al Maryah Island, Al Zeina and Mamsha Al Saadiyat. With a casual eats like this, the possibilities are endless – the 'by-the-slice' concept also means you can mix and match your topping choices, allowing you to blend classic pizza experiences such as diavola, burrata, and tartufo e funghi (truffle and mushroom). The pizzeria uses a crowd-favourite base blend born of organic Italian flour and 50 year old sourdough (which sounds musky but trust us, this is the good stuff). They also serve up hearty portions of antipasti, authentic pasta, cold pizzas, calamari, fresh salad options, suppli, and sweet pizzas (with Nutella of course). Antonia is all-set to occupy the space where Black Tap previously was. This is located near the cinema on the upper level of Mall of the Emirates. While no details have been revealed on an official opening date or what the space will look like, we're keeping our eyes peeled out for further updates. Watch this space! If you just can't wait for the opening and feel like taking a foodie trip to the capital, read our reviews of the Mamsha Al Saadiyat and the The Galleria, Al Maryah Island locations here and here.
