This year's Abu Dhabi's Eid Al Etihad celebrations have been announced

Abu Dhabi is about to get lit – literally. The 54th edition of the UAE's National Day (now proudly called Eid Al Etihad, meaning 'Festival of the Union') is just around the corner, and if previous years are anything to go by, we're in for a dazzling display of heritage, technology and a whole lot of wow-factor.
Every December 2, the UAE marks its historic unification – when the seven emirates came together to form a bold new nation back in 1971.
But this isn't just a public holiday; it's a full-on cultural extravaganza that celebrates Emirati pride, futuristic ambition and the people who call this country home.
What's happening this year?
While the full line-up is still under wraps, you can expect the usual suspects: massive fireworks, jaw-dropping drone shows and immersive storytelling that brings the UAE's past, present and future to life.
If previous celebrations are any clue, the capital is likely to be the centre stage again.
In 2022, synchronised drones danced above water. In 2023, AI-generated visuals transported audiences across time. In 2024, camels, constellations and desert mountains set the scene in Al Ain. In 2025? Think bigger. Think brighter. Think next-level tech mixed with timeless tradition – and maybe even a surprise A-list concert thrown into the mix.
Here's what's likely on the cards:
Fireworks everywhere – From Yas Island to the Corniche, the skies over Abu Dhabi are expected to light up in green, red, white and black.
Drone storytelling shows – They've become a staple of the celebration, and you can bet they'll be even more advanced this year.
Free public festivities – Think cultural performances, traditional parades, dance shows and more. (Pro tip: head to Al Maryah Island or downtown Abu Dhabi for the action.)
Concerts and surprise pop-ups – Previous years saw a mix of local and international talent. Could 2025 bring another chart-topper to the capital? We're watching closely.
Shopping and dining deals – Expect major discounts across malls, hotels and restaurants, especially in tourist hotspots like Yas Bay, Saadiyat and The Galleria.
Traffic fine discounts? – In 2024, drivers in four emirates got 50 percent off. Will it return in 2025? Fingers crossed.
Free public parking – Keep an eye on Parkonic announcements in Abu Dhabi closer to the date.
Planning your break
The holiday falls on Tuesday, December 2 and Wednesday, December 3 – so if you play your annual leave cards right (hello, December 1, 4 and 5), you could score a nine-day break. Perfect for a staycation, desert escape, or road trip with friends and family.
Eid Al Etihad isn't just a few days of fireworks – it's a month-long moment of reflection and celebration. Expect the skyline to be bathed in national colours, Emirati music to fill every corner of the city and people from all walks of life to come together in joy.
One thing's for sure: the UAE knows how to throw a celebration – and at 54 years strong, the energy is only growing. Keep your cameras ready and your National Day flags high – this is going to be one for the books.

Dubai for Dates returns this weekend with competitions, auctions, and cultural celebrations

Get ready to go date crazy as Dubai for Dates returns this Friday, July 25, for its second edition. Organised by the Hamdan Bin Mohammed Heritage Center (HHC), this week-long event pays tribute to the UAE's beloved palm tree and its most prized fruit, the date. More than just a cultural throwback, it's a living celebration of Emirati identity, agriculture, and community. Held at Al Remah Fort on the Dubai–Al Ain Road, the festival runs daily from 10am to 10pm. Visitors can expect a buzzing atmosphere of heritage competitions, artisanal stalls, and family-friendly experiences. It's all about honouring the past while engaging with the present. This year's edition features 13 competition categories, including returning favourites and new additions. Among them are the 'Homegrown Palm' categories (Dubai and General), sponsored by Furjan Dubai, and a 'Government Entities' section. A newly introduced highlight is the 'Dubai Hilwa' competition, named after a rare and sought-after local date variety. It's backed by Al Shindagha Museum and Dubai Culture. Meanwhile, the high-profile 'Dubai Elite' category, sponsored by Emaar, promises to draw strong contenders. All entries will be reviewed by a specialist judging panel chaired by Saeed Khalifa bin Thalith and supported by experienced figures in date cultivation and heritage, ensuring that authenticity and quality remain paramount. One of the standout additions this year is a seven-day palm tree auction, organised in partnership with Emirates Auction. Expect a fascinating look into the commercial and symbolic value of Emirati palm trees, with prized varieties up for grabs. 'This initiative is not merely an event, but a social and national message,' said HHC CEO Abdullah Hamdan bin Dalmook. 'The palm tree is not just a tree; it is a symbol of generosity, deep roots, and intergenerational connection.' As Dubai continues to build on its heritage-led initiatives, Dubai for Dates serves as a reminder that tradition and progress can grow side by side. Whether you're a fan of local produce, looking for a family day out, or just keen to learn more about Emirati culture, this is one summer festival worth checking out. Dubai Culture and Dubai Racing Club Partner to Celebrate Emirati Heritage at Dubai World Cup

Dubai Culture and Arts Authority (Dubai Culture) has signed a strategic Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Dubai Racing Club (DRC) to promote Emirati heritage and strengthen cultural engagement at the Dubai World Cup. The partnership aims to infuse the globally celebrated sporting event with authentic cultural experiences that reflect the values and traditions of the UAE. The agreement, signed by Hala Badri, Director General of Dubai Culture, and Ali Abdulrahman Al Ali, CEO and Board Member of Dubai Racing Club, sets the foundation for joint initiatives that spotlight both tangible and intangible aspects of Emirati culture. The two organisations will collaborate on cultural programming, share expertise, and co-develop experiences that showcase the richness of the UAE's local identity to international audiences. 'This MoU aligns with the vision of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, and his ongoing commitment to preserving our national heritage while projecting it globally,' said Hala Badri. 'Through this partnership, we hope to create meaningful opportunities for local talent and strengthen the cultural and creative industries by providing a world-class platform to share their work.' Badri emphasized that the collaboration will play a vital role in supporting Dubai Culture's mission of safeguarding heritage for future generations. By incorporating creative content and traditional expressions into the Dubai World Cup experience, the initiative aims to enhance community pride and reinforce Dubai's global standing as a cultural and tourism hub. Ali Al Ali noted that the partnership reflects Dubai Racing Club's ambition to blend sport and culture in innovative ways. 'Working with Dubai Culture enhances the Dubai World Cup's identity as more than just a racing event,' he said. 'It becomes a celebration of our roots, traditions, and national values. As we look ahead to the 30th edition of the Dubai World Cup in 2026, this collaboration comes at the perfect moment to spotlight the UAE's enduring heritage on a global platform.' Since its inception in 1996, the Dubai World Cup has grown into one of the world's most prestigious horse racing events. This new cultural collaboration promises to elevate the spectator experience by integrating artistic and heritage elements that celebrate the spirit of the Emirates. News Source: Dubai Media Office
