The Perfume Shop has another strong year despite price-sensitive consumers
The Perfume Shop's accounts for 2024 are in and they show the UK-based fragrance retailer's revenue rising 5.9%. The company, which also sells in Ireland, operated from one extra store overall last year taking its total to 510, but its revenue rise from 302.4 million to £320.4 million wasn't purely down to trading from new space. The retailer's comparable sales increased by 6.1% with the business saying it saw strong growth both in its physical spaces and online. This was helped by its loyalty programme that continues to grow and saw an increase in member gross sales participation and the total number of members. Meanwhile, operating profits increased to £24.8 million from £21.4 million with profit after tax at £17.2 million, up from £15.4 million in 2023. That was all despite what The Perfume Shop said was another tough year for the retail sector, including the legacy of higher prices even though the monthly rate of inflation eased considerably. Consumer disposable income was squeezed and it said customers were much more price-sensitive even though the beauty market as a whole was strong. It continued to grow its market share through its strategy as a multi-channel retailer and investment here paid off last year. That investment remains key as the business spends money of opening new stores and refurbishing existing locations. In 2024, it refitted 31 stores and opened three in new locations, as well as relocating five to stronger trading positions and closing two as their leases ended and the decision was taken that they didn't fit in with the strategic direction of the firm. Although the accounts didn't contain any details about specific selling seasons or about 2025, we assume that the current year has continued to be strong. During this year it has reported buoyant sales for key events such as Valentine 's Day, Mother's Day and Father's Day. And store openings/revamps have continued at pace.

Perfume Shop continues ambitious opening drive with greenest store yet
Barely a month goes by without news of one or more openings and upgrades by The Perfume Shop and it has just opened its greenest store to date, debuting at the Cotswolds Designer Outlet shopping destination. Marking the fragrance retailer's 33rd birthday year, the store features a new layout and upgraded services including a digital screen, fragrance consultations, complimentary gift wrapping with a personalised ribbon machine, and a recycling service where customers can drop off used perfume bottles to receive 15% off their next purchase. On opening day, the retailer also offered a free bottle of fragrance to the first 15 customers with any purchase over £80. And those green elements? It said energy efficiency is at the heart of the new store's design (100% renewable via wind, solar, hydro, and geothermal) while all lighting is 100% LED. A smart Building Management System (BMS) automates lighting and HVAC control, helping to reduce unnecessary energy use. Additional features such as motion-sensor lighting in back-of-house areas and a last-man-out switch help prevent energy waste. The store also incorporates Panasonic HVAC technology with thermos screen integration, which contributes to wider CO₂ reduction strategy. Meanwhile, as the retailer continues its expansion programme opening new stores and experiential counters across the UK while re-fitting existing stores, eco is also key. It said a 'significant portion' of store fit-outs use recycled and sustainable materials throughout, including shopfloor sustainable furniture suites and worktops made from recycled fridges, while acrylic elements feature Greencast (a recycled acrylic alternative). Warehousing also includes ceiling tiles with recycled content and 100% recyclable flooring and shelving. Michelle Fellows, Perfume Shop's People, Sustainability and Development director, said: 'Our greenest store to date [is] proof that sustainability and beauty can go hand in hand. A huge amount of thought and care has gone into every detail.'

Save £50 on ‘long lasting' Issey Miyake perfume shoppers say is their ‘desert island' scent
Issey Miyake's 'long-lasting' perfume has been slashed by almost 50% from £110 to £59 with shoppers saying they love it so much they would choose it as their 'desert island' item A great perfume can be one of the most important things in your beauty arsenal, helping you feel instantly confident and put together with a single spray. Some shoppers have even gone as far as to say that they would consider one perfume in particular their 'desert island' luxury. The happy customer said: 'If you put me on a desert island and said I can have two luxuries, perfume would be one. Beautiful smell, absolutely love florals.' The perfume that's gotten such high praise is the Issey Miyake L'Eau d'Issey Eau & Magnolia fragrance, with its fresh and floral scent being a big hit. Although usually priced at £110 for 100ml, The Perfume Shop has now slashed the price of it to £59.99, saving you £50. This price cut makes the 100ml bottle work out cheaper than the 50ml, which is still priced at £64.99 – the perfect time to get more for your money. There are also some other great perfume deals on at the moment, with Sephora offering up to 40% off its fragrances, including some big name brands like Prada, YSL and Gucci. Elsewhere LookFantastic is running a 50% off sale on selected perfumes for a limited time. You can get 100ml of Calvin Klein Eternity for Women Eau de Parfum for £44.50 down from £89, whilst the Marc Jacobs Perfect Intense Eau de Parfum has been slashed to a much more affordable price. Usually available for £71 for a 30ml bottle, it's now on offer for £35.50. The L'Eau d'Issey Eau & Magnolia however has zesty, refreshing notes combined with light florals and subtle earthy tones, making it a lovely fragrance to wear during the summer, although you could just as easily wear it year round. Those who've bought it have also said it's the perfect scent for any occasion, and can be worn both day and night. It has top notes of bergamot and neroli for that zingy, fresh scent, with heart notes of rose and magnolia to bring soft, feminine floral hints. It finishes with sandalwood at the base to give it some depth. Other reviews also praised the L'Eau d'Issey Eau & Magnolia perfume, with one writing: 'Wow. Just wow. I love it even more than expected. Everyone compliments me and asks what I'm wearing!!! Awesome!!' Another agreed: 'Sample, long lasting scent that is not too strong, it's refreshing and light.' Some weren't as much of a fan of the scent as others, with one shopper saying: 'The smell is alright, but I probably won't be getting anymore since it just really doesn't suit me. I do recommend for others try it out for themselves.' Someone else wrote: 'This smelled like your typical floral scent! Nothing special about it. Didn't last too long either. Something I would keep in the car or somewhere for a quick spritz but wouldn't be a top pick or everyday wear perfume.' However others couldn't get enough, writing: 'I really love this perfume, it is perfect for day and night and lasts a long time.'
