The New ‘Buffy the Vampire Slayer' Revival Expands Its Cast
Get a look at Ice Cube and Eva Longoria's surprise War of the Worlds adaptation. Resident Alien is ending with season 8. Jon Bernthal goes hunting in new set footage from the Punisher special. Plus, what's coming on Rick & Morty. To me, my spoilers!Deadline reports Karen Allen has joined the cast of Other Mommy, Rob Savage's adaptation of Josh Malerman's horror novel Incidents Around the House, in a currently undisclosed role. Winston Gooze begins his mutation in a new clip from The Toxic Avenger. Madelaine Petsch's nightmare continues in a new clip from The Strangers – Chapter 2. Martians want your browser history in the trailer for a surprise remake of War of the Worlds starring Ice Cube and Eva Longoria coming to Amazon next week. Deadline reports Faly Rakotohavana, Ava Jean, Sarah Bock, Daniel Di Tomasso, and Jack Cutmore-Scott have joined the cast of the new Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Rakotohavana will play Hugo, 'a privileged, likable high school student who is a geek,' opposite Jean as the 'chronic do-gooder,' Larkin. Bock is said to play Gracie, 'the ringleader for a group of church-going students,' while Di Tomasso has been cast as Abe, 'Nova's single father who is a photojournalist.' Scott rounds out the incoming cast as Mr. Burke, 'a popular high school teacher.' Notably, Sarah Michelle Gellar dismissed a report from TV Line this past March stating the series would introduce 'an out-and-proud nerd who comes from money' named Hugo and a 'young expert on vampires who's an acolyte of Gellar's Buffy' named Gracie, as 'fake characters.' With this official press release, it appears there may be at least some truth to those initial reports. TV Line, meanwhile, reports Resident Alien has been canceled at Syfy and will conclude with a series finale this August 8. According to TV Line, CBS has ordered Eternally Yours, a pilot for a potential new series from Ghosts showrunners Joe Port and Joe Wiseman. The pilot is said to concern a 'long-married vampire couple and their struggle to accept the human who is dating their daughter.' Jon Bernthal was spotted filming for the Punisher standalone Disney+ special. Head over to Reddit to have a look. Finally, Jerry has been implanted with false memories about Rick in a clip from this Sunday's season finale of Rick and Morty. Want more io9 news? The ‘Fantastic Four' Are Back—Here's How to Watch Their New Film
Every item on this page was chosen by an ELLE editor. We may earn commission on some of the items you choose to buy. Marvel's iconic superhero team is getting a fresh start. Fantastic Four: First Steps, in theaters today, introduces a new version of the group: Pedro Pascal as Reed Richards (a.k.a. Mister Fantastic), Vanessa Kirby as Sue Storm (the Invisible Woman), Joseph Quinn as Johnny Storm (the Human Torch), and Ebon Moss-Bachrach as Ben Grimm (the Thing). The film is set in a retro-futuristic version of the 1960s rather than the present-day Marvel universe fans might be used to. It follows the group as they face off against the powerful cosmic villain Galactus and his mysterious messenger, the Silver Surfer (played by Julia Garner). This isn't just a superhero movie—it's also about family, as Reed and Sue are expecting their first child. As Director Matt Shakman (WandaVision) told Variety, 'They are parents first. They are scientists and explorers second. And they're superheroes only when they have to be. I come at this as a dad and as a husband. That's what makes it so special to me.' The cast helped shape their characters in new ways too. Quinn told Entertainment Weekly that his version of Johnny isn't just a cocky playboy. 'He's a man that leads with a lot of bravado, which can be an affront sometimes. But also he's funny,' he said. 'Myself and [Marvel Studios boss] Kevin [Feige] were speaking about previous iterations of him and where we are culturally. He was branded as this womanizing, devil-may-care guy, but is that sexy these days? I don't think so. This version of Johnny is less callous with other people's feelings, and hopefully there's a self-awareness about what's driving that attention-seeking behavior.' Garner described her Silver Surfer to Entertainment Weekly as 'so different than anyone I've ever played.' She added, 'She has this mysterious energy about her, and slowly that mystery will get solved with the audience throughout watching it.' And while this isn't Moss-Bachrach's first time playing a Marvel character (he was also in The Punisher), he told the outlet, 'In my brief two portrayals of Marvel characters, I've hit the two big guys. It's a deep honor that I take to heart.' Not just yet. The movie hits theaters today and is expected to arrive on Disney+, as most Marvel titles do. To refresh your memory before diving into Fantastic Four: First Steps, you can also watch past Fantastic Four movies, including Fantastic Four (1994), Fantastic 4 (2005), Fantastic 4: Rise of the Silver Surfer (2007), and Fant4stic (2015) on Disney+. Kevin Feige teases Tom Holland will become 'proper Spider-Man' in next movie instalment, Entertainment News
Kevin Feige has teased Spider-Man: Brand New Day will see Tom Holland become a "proper Spider-Man". The 29-year-old actor is set to suit up as the Web-Head once again for the upcoming Marvel blockbuster, and the Marvel Studios boss has now said Holland's Wall-Crawler will be his own fully-fledged superhero by Spider-Man: Brand New Day. Speaking at a roundtable interview for The Fantastic Four: First Steps, Feige said: "I think there's a promise at the end of No Way Home, that for as sad as it is that Peter is forgotten by everyone in his life, we are seeing for the first time in the Tom Holland Spider-Man stories him being a proper Spider-Man. "Him being by himself, dedicated to saving the city, and dealing with — for lack of better terms — street-level crime, as opposed to world-ending events." The Marvel head also explained what direction Spider-Man: Brand New Day director Destin Daniel Cretton would be taking with Jon Bernthal's The Punisher in the movie. Feige said: "So when you do that, you say, okay, who are the other street-level characters that we've never seen him interact with? And of course, I love that The Punisher started in a Spider-Man comic. "That great cover ... I don't want to say too much, but Destin — I will say too much — Destin is doing an amazing job right now on that movie, which starts shooting very soon. "And he's got eight or nine comic covers up on his wall in his art department that he is bringing to life in this movie, which is super cool." As well as Holland and Bernthal, Spider-Man: Brand New Day — which is slated to hit screens on July 31, 2026 — will see the return of Zendaya as Michelle 'MJ' Jones-Watson and Jacob Batalon as Ned Leeds. Stranger Things actress Sadie Sink and The Bear's Liza Colón-Zayas have also been cast in Spider-Man: Brand New Day, though it has not been confirmed what roles they will be playing in the film. Although plot details about Spider-Man: Brand New Day are being kept under wraps, Mark Ruffalo's Hulk is rumoured to be the main antagonist of the movie. Looking to the future, Feige teased he wanted Spider-Man to cross paths with the Fantastic Four in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), especially Johnny Storm (Joseph Quinn). He said: "We didn't do chemistry reads, but whenever we cast it is with that blue sky dream in mind of one day being able to do that. "And that's a great example. That's one of the key relationships in Marvel comics is Johnny Storm and Peter Parker. And we've never been able to come close to it before and now it is in the realm of possibility. That's exciting. That gets me up in the morning." Recently, Holland teased Spider-Man: Brand New Day would feel like a "breath of fresh air", much like his original 2017 film Spider-Man: Homecoming. He told Flip Your Wig: "It's gonna feel like making [Spider-Man: Homecoming] again. It's been such a long time that I've done it that it's gonna feel like a breath of fresh air. "And I think the fans are gonna be over the moon with what we're putting together." [[nid:715595]]

Tom Holland's Spider-Man set to start over in ‘Brand New Day' with The Punisher in tow
Marvel Studios is taking Tom Holland's Spider-Man in a sharply different direction. In Spider-Man: Brand New Day, the focus shifts from multiversal chaos and Avengers-scale disasters to a grounded New York story. Marvel boss Kevin Feige, speaking at a roundtable during promotions for Fantastic Four: First Steps, said, Explore courses from Top Institutes in Please select course: Select a Course Category Others others Data Science Cybersecurity Data Science Finance CXO Healthcare Artificial Intelligence Leadership Project Management Technology PGDM Digital Marketing healthcare Public Policy Design Thinking Product Management MCA Management MBA Data Analytics Degree Skills you'll gain: Duration: 28 Weeks MICA CERT-MICA SBMPR Async India Starts on undefined Get Details Skills you'll gain: Duration: 28 Weeks MICA CERT-MICA SBMPR Async India Starts on undefined Get Details 'I think there's a promise at the end of No Way Home, that for as sad as it is that Peter is forgotten by everyone in his life, we are seeing for the first time in the Tom Holland Spider-Man stories him being a proper Spider-Man. No more swinging through alternate realities or relying on Tony Stark's tech. This is Peter, alone and anonymous, facing the kind of threats he was first built for. The Punisher returns Feige also confirmed that Jon Bernthal is returning as Frank Castle, also known as the Punisher. His inclusion brings a rougher edge to the story. Live Events 'So when you do that, you say, okay, who are the other street-level characters that we've never seen him interact with? And of course, I love that The Punisher started in a Spider-Man comic. And he's got eight or nine comic covers up on his wall in his art department that he is bringing to life in this movie, which is super cool.' This is more than a crossover. It's a deliberate attempt to tap into the roots of both characters, and the darker moral grey zones they navigate when their paths cross. 'Brand New Day' inspired by the Comics The film's title, Brand New Day, references a 2008 comic book arc where Peter Parker strikes a deal with Mephisto to undo his marriage and identity, essentially rebooting his life. While Mephisto has already appeared in Ironheart, it's unclear if he'll appear in this version of the story. Feige has kept plot details tightly guarded, but the nod to classic comic covers and Bernthal's return suggests this will be one of the more faithful adaptations in recent memory. Cast, characters and fresh faces Alongside Tom Holland, Zendaya returns as MJ and Jacob Batalon as Ned Leeds. Also joining the film are Stranger Things star Sadie Sink and The Bear's Liza Colón-Zayas. Their roles remain under wraps for now. Meanwhile, there's buzz around Mark Ruffalo's Hulk being lined up as the film's primary antagonist. Nothing confirmed yet, but it's a detail fans will be watching closely. Future crossovers already on the table Feige hinted at his long-term hopes for the Spider-Man character within the Marvel Cinematic Universe , particularly with the incoming Fantastic Four. 'We didn't do chemistry reads, but whenever we cast, it is with that blue sky dream in mind of one day being able to do that. And that's a great example. That's one of the key relationships in Marvel comics is between Johnny Storm and Peter Parker. And we've never been able to come close to it before, and now it is in the realm of possibility. That's exciting. That gets me up in the morning.' That crossover between Peter and Johnny Storm (to be played by Joseph Quinn) has been long awaited. If it happens, it could mark a new chapter for both characters. What Tom Holland said about returning After years away from the solo Spider-Man films, Tom Holland has said returning for Brand New Day feels familiar in the best way. Speaking to Flip Your Wig, Holland said, 'It's gonna feel like making [Spider-Man: Homecoming] again. It's been such a long time that I've done it that it's gonna feel like a breath of fresh air. And I think the fans are gonna be over the moon with what we're putting together.' Spider-Man: Brand New Day is scheduled for release on 31 July 2026. It will be directed by Destin Daniel Cretton , best known for Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings. Production begins soon. And while much of the plot remains under wraps, what's clear is this: Spider-Man is heading back to the streets. Back to the shadows. And perhaps, back to where he belongs.
