Barbra Streisand Debuts At A Low Point On The Charts She Hasn't Seen In Almost Half A Century

Barbra Streisand's The Secret of Life: Partners, Volume II debuts at No. 31 on the Billboard 200, ... More her lowest chart peak for a traditional album since 1976. (Photo by) For decades, Barbra Streisand could almost always be counted on to reach the top 10 whenever she delivered a new album. Streisand still claims the second-most No. 1 titles on the Billboard 200 among women, with 11, coming in behind only Taylor Swift's 14 rulers. While she remains a powerhouse and a legend, the era of guaranteed commercial grandeur may be over. Streisand's new album The Secret of Life: Partners, Volume II reaches several Billboard rankings after its first full tracking frame – but it fails to approach the top 10 on the main list of the biggest albums in the country. The Secret of Life Debuts on the Billboard 200 The Secret of Life debuts on the Billboard 200 at No. 31 in its first full week of availability in the United States. The collaborations project, which features tunes that pair Streisand with stars like Ariana Grande, Mariah Carey and Bob Dylan, moved just under 20,000 equivalent units, according to Luminate. Almost all of those were pure sales, as it racked up a little more than 18,300 purchases. Barbra Streisand's Lowest-Charting Album in Decades Streisand hasn't seen one of her proper albums peak lower than No. 31 since 1976. That year, Classical Barbra only climbed as high as No. 45. At the time, she was still one of the biggest stars in the world, but the classical project, which featured the singer performing in multiple languages, clearly didn't appeal to the fanbase she had built with huge releases like My Name Is Barbra and a slew of smash singles. A Top 10 Bestseller While The Secret of Life underperforms on the Billboard 200, the set does open at No. 4 on the Top Album Sales chart. It becomes the EGOT winner's sixteenth title to land inside the highest tier on the ranking. Throughout her career, Streisand has collected 26 placements on the Top Album Sales list and 65 on the Billboard 200.

Barbra Streisand's New Album Scores A Lofty — And Coincidental — Debut

Barbra Streisand's The Secret of Life: Partners, Volume II debuts at No. 6 on three U.K. charts, ... More marking her tenth top 10 on the Official Physical Albums chart. (Photo by Michael Buckner/Variety via Getty Images) Barbra Streisand's recording career has lasted longer than most musical acts can dream of. The multi-talented singer-songwriter, producer, and actor released her first project — the simply-titled The Barbra Streisand Album — in early 1963, more than six decades ago. While she doesn't produce new work as often as she once did, Streisand still occasionally gives her fan base brand new work to enjoy, including her most recent full-length, The Secret of Life: Partners, Volume II. That set arrives on charts all around the world this week, and in the United Kingdom, it brings the superstar back to the top 10 on multiple lists. The Secret of Life Debuts at No. 6 on Three Charts Coincidentally, The Secret of Life launches at No. 6 on three different album rankings in the U.K. The project only reaches five tallies overall, and it's a top 10 win on all but two of them. Streisand's latest enters in sixth place on the Official Albums Sales, Official Album Downloads and the Official Physical Albums charts, all at the same time. Barbra Streisand Scores Her Tenth Top 10 Streisand earns her milestone tenth top 10 hit on the Official Physical Albums chart as The Secret of Life debuts. She has now scored more than twice as many placements inside the loftiest tier on the list of the bestselling EPs and full-lengths on any physical medium than she has on both the Official Albums Sales and Official Album Downloads rankings combined. On those tallies, Streisand earns her fourth and fifth top 10s, respectively. A Top 40 Win Across the Board The Secret of Life is a top 40 win on every U.K. tally, which is quite the accomplishment for a singer who has been releasing music for well over half a century. Streisand launches her latest studio LP at No. 32 on the Official Vinyl Albums chart. As it arrives, she scores just her third-ever win on that format-specific ranking. The same effort — which sees her teaming up with superstars like Hozier, Sam Smith, Mariah Carey, Ariana Grande, and even Bob Dylan — narrowly sneaks into the important tier on the main ranking of the most consumed albums in the U.K., where it begins its time at No. 40.

Barbra Streisand Reveals Her and Husband James Brolin's 'Different Schedule' and Why They Go to Bed 'Very Late' (Exclusive)

Barbra Streisand says she and husband James Brolin "love the silence of the night" The couple therefore goes to sleep "very late" Streisand's new album, The Secret of Life: Partners, Volume Two is out nowWhen Barbra Streisand answers the phone to chat with PEOPLE, it's just after 2 p.m. local time in Los Angeles — but for the legendary star, the day is just beginning. 'We go to bed very late, so I'm still in bed,' Streisand, 83, explains in this week's issue of her routine with husband James Brolin, 84. 'We have a different schedule. We love the silence of the night.' The EGOT-winning singer, actress and director has long built her life around sound, first through hit songs like 'The Way We Were' and movies like Funny Girl; these days more through the giggles of her grandkids. So it's understandable why she'd appreciate some peace and quiet. Streisand and Brolin married in 1998 after meeting two years earlier at a dinner party orchestrated by friends. In recent months, she's been focused on family (The Yentl star is mom to son Jason Gould, 58, with ex-husband Elliott Gould, and grandma to a brood that includes stepson Josh Brolin's two young daughters Chapel, 4, and Westlyn, 6, and stepdaughter Molly's son Soli, 3). She celebrated her 27th wedding anniversary with Brolin on Tuesday, July 1, writing on Instagram, 'We met on a blind date 29 years ago tonight, and we married 27 years ago today. I love you honey. B xo. ❤️' Brolin joked on the Today show in April that he and his wife's best investment over the years was their mattress. 'Don't misunderstand me. We're both lazy. We love to sleep late,' he said. 'We do a lot of our work on the phone, on paper, reading, right next to each other.' Streisand — who released her bestselling memoir My Name Is Barbra in November 2023 — is currently wading back into the spotlight with a new duets album, The Secret of Life: Partners, Volume Two, which she released on June 27. The record features an impressive roster of collaborators, including Paul McCartney, Bob Dylan, Tim McGraw, Ariana Grande and Mariah Carey. Streisand says that McCartney, 83, was the first person on board when it came time to recruit singing partners. 'He was so sweet to me when I first came to London. I was there in the '60s, I think, and he invited me to his house with his wife Linda,' she recalls. 'It was just so kind of him, and he's so wonderful. He's such a great writer and I admire him, so that's a no-brainer. [He] was the first one.' The Secret of Life marks Streisand's first new album in seven years, following Walls in 2018. The star says all of the 'wonderful people' who performed with her on the new album were catalysts for her return to the studio — and she's not done yet. Does the 10-time Grammy winner have another album in her? 'God, yeah. As long as I have a voice, I love the privacy of recording,' she says. 'I love standing there in front of the mic and the music in my ears and singing. When I was 18 years old, I made my mother call up publishers to get free music. I still have that person inside, that kid. There are more songs I want to sing.' The Secret of Life: Partners, Volume Two is out the original article on People

Barbra Streisand on Her Long-Awaited Bob Dylan Duet: ‘I Saw It As An Acting Piece'

A robin redbreast has alighted on Barbra Streisand's windowsill. Sitting with Jay Landers, her A&R executive at Columbia Records for three decades, the multihyphenate legend, 83, is taking a moment amid her busy schedule to appreciate the little gifts nature provides. Her new album, The Secret of Life: Partners, Volume Two (out June 27), is her first since 2018's Walls and a sequel to 2014's Partners. The duets project finds her singing old chestnuts ('The Very Thought of You' with Bob Dylan) and songs written by her collaborators ('My Valentine' with Paul McCartney and 'Letter to My 13 Year Old Self' with Laufey). It also features a few new tracks, such as 'To Lose You Again' with Sam Smith and 'One Heart, One Voice,' a cross-generational collaboration for the ages that teams her with Mariah Carey and Ariana Grande; both songs were co-written by Walter Afanasieff, who co-produced the album with Peter Asher. More from Billboard Will Barbra Streisand Win Her First Grammy in 39 Years for 'The Secret of Life: Partners, Volume Two'? Lil B & Kevin Durant Reignite Feud After NBA Star's Trade: 'You Was Once a Thing, I'm Still That' Mick Ralphs, Founding Member of Bad Company & Mott the Hoople, Dies at 81 In your 2023 memoir, , you wrote that Bob Dylan wanted to sing with you in the '70s but you demurred. How did it feel finally singing with him? Barbra Streisand: The interesting thing is that I saw it as an acting piece. It's two different people, how they were feeling each other out: what kind of emotions are going on when two people have known of each other for such a long time but never met. It was wonderful to work with him, actually. I did my part earlier in the day, and it worked out perfectly with his. I'm ever the director. And he wanted direction, which was so lovely: 'What do you think? What do you want?' He just was so open to trying this or trying that. It was really easy. Both your careers began around the same time, just blocks away from each other 60 years ago in New York. Streisand: I talked to him about our pasts; we never met but we were in Greenwich Village at the same time, finding our way, unknown — me at the Bon Soir [a defunct nightclub] and him with his guitars playing his clubs. It's interesting we finally met. Josh Groban features on 'Where Do I Go From You' and is the only singer here who also sang on . What is it about him? Streisand: He had the voice for it. I always loved that song — it was from a Broadway play that never got onstage [Beba's Mambo] — and somehow, we made it into a duet. Everybody who I worked with was wonderful. It was easy and enjoyable, which I loved about it. I hadn't sung in a while, so I didn't even know if my voice was going to show up. I gave a little prayer to God as I approached the microphone that first time, and somehow, even not having sung for a while, my voice was there. How long had it been since you had sung prior to recording this? Streisand: I can't even imagine. When did I make my last album? I don't keep track of myself, actually. Jay, do you know what my last album was before this? Jay Landers: Your last album was Walls in 2018. Two years into the Trump administration. And here we are again. How are you keeping sane during these times? Streisand: Well, I write my tweets. I try to keep calm. I try to know time will go and things will change again. I have to keep hoping. You have to keep sanity in your mind. I pray a lot. Prayer helps, I'll tell you that. That's all I can do right now. This story appears in the June 21, 2025, issue of Billboard. Barbra Streisand Hits No. 1, Beating Music's Hottest Modern Stars

Barbra Streisand and Laufey's duet 'Letter to My 13-Year-Old Self' hits No. 1 on iTunes, beating out ... More Sabrina Carpenter and Ed Sheeran. Barbra Streisand in Funny Girl (Photo by John Springer Collection/CORBIS/Corbis via Getty Images) It's a busy Friday on iTunes as another tracking period begins in the global music industry. This week, several superstars release new singles, including modern-day chart-toppers like Sabrina Carpenter and Ed Sheeran. But on this Friday (June 6), it's a legend who rises to the top spot and scores a bestselling hit, beating even the hottest newcomers in the business. Barbra Streisand reaches No. 1 on the iTunes Top Songs chart in the United States with her new track "Letter to My 13-Year-Old Self." The tune is a collaboration with jazz and traditional pop musician Laufey, who seems to be following in Streisand's footsteps by introducing younger audiences to the sounds of the past. The tune is taken from Streisand's upcoming album The Secret of Life: Partners, Volume 2. The full-length, which is expected on June 27, sees the singer and actress teaming up with musicians from across genres for spectacular duets. Names like Ariana Grande, James Taylor, Sam Smith, Bob Dylan, and even Paul McCartney are all included on the project. Streisand leads a packed top 10, as all 10 of the bestselling tracks on the iTunes Top Songs chart are brand new. "Manchild" by Sabrina Carpenter spent time at No. 1 early in the day on Friday, but the hours passed, Streisand was able to push past her. The next half-dozen spaces all belong to the Backstreet Boys, as the boy band's past hits — "I Want It That Way," "Larger Than Life," "Show Me the Meaning of Being Lonely," "Don't Want to Lose You Now," "The One," and "It's Gotta Be You" — appear at Nos. 3 through 8, respectively. The group's album Millennium is also surging ahead of its anniversary re-release later this summer. Not far behind that Grammy-nominated troupe are the latest releases by Mariah Carey and Ed Sheeran. The elusive chanteuse dropped "Type Dangerous" on Friday, and it currently lands at No. 9, just ahead of "Sapphire," the latest cut from Sheeran's upcoming album Play, which is expected to arrive later this year.
