Apple AirTag hits record low price in Amazon Prime Day sale so you never lose your bags again
Apple's AirTag, which can be attached to luggage, is currently on sale at Amazon for its lowest ever price Bluetooth trackers, the tiny tech devices that allow you to keep tabs on your belongings' every move, are gaining popularity. These useful gadgets can be attached to anything from suitcases and handbags to wallets and passports. One such device, Apple's AirTag, has seen a significant price reduction thanks to an early Amazon Prime Day discount. Having used it on their travels to France, New York, Italy, and Botswana, the Mirror's commerce editor Harriet Morphy-Morris highly recommends it to friends and family. The AirTag uses Apple's Find My Network, allowing users to track its movements continuously. Usually priced at £35 per tag, it is currently available for just £26.60 on Amazon, making it cheaper than buying directly from Apple. Setting up this trackable gadget is simple for iOS users. Once the AirTag is activated, simply bring it close to your iPhone or iPad, and a 'connect' notification will appear. You can then assign a name to your AirTag and register it with your Apple ID. Harriet did this back in 2022, and since using an AirTag for travel, she has never misplaced their luggage. The AirTag emits a unique network signal that can be detected by other nearby AirTag users. It sends its location to these users, who can then anonymously share the location with you. Apple enthusiasts may already be acquainted with the 'Find My' app, and the AirTag functions similarly to tracking a misplaced phone during the 'Find My iPhone' era. With the Find My app, Harriet said they can instantly see the location of their bags and when they were last there - particularly useful when boarding a plane, as it allows her to confirm whether their luggage has been loaded. AirTags do present a limitation for many travellers and mobile users, as they are exclusive to iOS, leaving Android users out in the cold. This is where competing devices such as the Tile tag and select models from Chipolo prove beneficial, as we outline below. There are alternatives from Chipolo, Tile and Samsung. The Tile by Life360 is available for purchase on Amazon at £34.99, a slight increase compared to the currently discounted AirTag. Like the AirTag, it also tracks items it's attached to via an app, but instead of immediately displaying the tracker's location upon opening (as with the AirTag), you have to select 'location history'. Harriet has previously compared the Tile tracker with the AirTag while travelling, and it does provide a slightly more accurate location on the map, including nearby shops and attractions that iOS doesn't display. Another alternative is Chipolo. The Chipolo Card Spot, which is compatible only with iPhones, is currently reduced to £19 and offers a slimmer option that can easily fit into purses and wallets. Tech deal of the week It's that time of year where we are looking for ways to keep cool amidst the balmy, summer days. One item shoppers are raving over is this DDKJ Neck Fan that can be used to keep cool when commuting, at work or in the home. Even better, it costs just £26.98 on Amazon. With certain parts of the UK set to reach sweltering 35C, it's handy that this neck fan comes with a rose gold cooling plate around the neck curve that is said to "feel like an ice cube", dropping temperatures to just 15C in as little as one second. Boasting an ergonomic, wearable design, it features two bladeless fans that are safe to wear, with five different speed settings that provide a cooling effect on the head, neck and sides. It's also quite smart thanks to a LED digital display that makes the operation easy and convenient, while the built-in 5500mAh large capacity rechargeable battery features a fast charging chip that ensures a full charge within just 2.5-3hrs. Numerous shoppers who have bagged the neck fan say it is a "godsend" and a "lifesaver" for the heatwave, with one writing: "This is easy to wear when sitting or walking generally. Works fast and never needed it on anything but the lowest setting! At my time of life it is a lifesaver, especially through the heatwave we experienced." Keep cool amidst the rising temperatures with the DDKJ Neck Fan with Cooling Plate on Amazon for £26.98 During a recent holiday, Harriet decided to test out the CARD Spot by Chipolo. Its slim design, similar to a bank card, makes it perfect for slipping into a wallet, passport, or ID, much like the Tile by Life360 or Eufy SmartTrack Card. However, Harriet opted to tuck it into her suitcase pocket for tracking during her flight. It's important to note that it relies solely on Apple's Find My network and doesn't have its own app. Currently on sale for £21, the CARD Spot offers features that set it apart from rivals such as AirTag and Tile. It's worth mentioning that this gadget may not be suitable for Android users due to compatibility issues. Join the Daily Record WhatsApp community! Oakland police say ride-hail drivers being targeted for robbery
Oakland police issued a warning Thursday after receiving several reports of robberies and carjackings of ride-hail drivers. Police said three cases were reported in which people requesting rides in the area of 46th Avenue and Foothill Boulevard attempted to rob the drivers. The passengers claim to have an issue with the car, police said, upon the driver's arrival at the pickup spot or after getting in and asking them to pull over. The police department said that the suspect or suspects then try to rob the driver or steal the car. Police arrested two juvenile suspects in relation to two of the incidents, which all happened after 9 p.m., and are investigating a third juvenile suspect for a third incident, the department said. Police advised ride-hail drivers and delivery drivers to stay alert and to take precautions, including placing a GPS tracking device — like an Apple AirTag or Tile — in their car and installing a dashboard camera to record any incidents. The police department also advises ride-hail drivers to 'trust your instincts' if a passenger is requesting an 'unexpected or unsafe stop,' and to drive to a well-lit, populated area before pulling over.

Apple AirTag I've used travelling to four countries drops in price
Commerce Editor, Harriet Morphy-Morris, has used an AirTag travelling to more than four countries and brands it a 'life saver' - here's where to buy it for less Bluetooth trackers, the tiny tech gadgets that let you track the every move of the belongings it's attached to, from suitcases, to handbags, wallets, and passports. Apple's popular AirTag has dropped to one of the cheapest prices thanks to an early Amazon Prime Day discount - and it's one I recommend to all my friends and family having used it travelling on trips to France, New York, Italy and Botswana. Apple's AirTag uses the Apple Find My Network which allows users to track its every move. Usually £35 for one, it's now available for £26.60 at Amazon. The early 2025 Prime Day discount makes it cheaper than Apple's own site. The trackable gadget is simple to set up for iOS users, once the AirTag has been opened, simply move it near to your iPhone or iPad and it'll appear with a 'connect' notification. Then choose a name for it (which is what you track) and register it with your Apple iD. I did this back in 2022, and since using an AirTag to travel I've never lost my luggage. The AirTag emits a personal network that can be detected by other AirTag users within close proximity to the tag. It will ping its location to nearby users who can then share the location with you, anonymously. Apple users may already be well aware of the 'Find My' app, and the AirTag is tracked similarly to if you were to look for a lost phone on the 'Find My iPhone' days. On the Find My app, I can see straight away where my bags are and how long ago they've been in that location - a feature I find great to check when boarding the plane, I always see if my bags have been loaded too. AirTags do have a limitation for many travellers and mobile users, as they are iOS only, so Android users miss out. This is where rival devices like the Tile tag and select models from the brand Chipolo can come in handy. As we highlight below. Chipolo, Tile and Samsung alternatives The Tile by Life360 is available to buy at Amazon for £34.99. A slight increase to the current on-sale AirTag. It also tracks belongings its attached to with an app, but instead of opening it up and seeing the location of the tracker straight away (like with the AirTag) you have to click 'location history'. I've previously used the Tile tracker up against the AirTag while flying on holiday, and it does offer slightly more precise location on the map, with a view of nearby shops and attractions iOS doesn't have. Another option is Chipolo. The Chipolo Card Spot, which only works with iPhones, is currently reduced to £19 and it offers a slimmer alternative that can be slotted into purses and wallets. During a recent holiday, I decided to put Chipolo's CARD Spot to the test. Its slim design, like a bank card, is perfect for slipping into a wallet, passport, or ID, similar to the Tile by Life360 or Eufy SmartTrack Card. Though I opted to place it in my suitcase pocket for tracking during my flight. It comes with a catch, though, as it operates solely on Apple's Find My network, not its own app. Priced at £21 in the sale, the CARD Spot boasts features that set it apart from the AirTag and Tile pack. However, if you're an Android user, this gadget won't be suitable as it lacks compatibility.

I ditched my AirTag for this smarter key tracker — and I love it
Everyone I know raves about how helpful it is for them to attach an AirTag on their keychain to keep track of their keys, but my issue is that AirTags are quite obvious — which gives potential thieves a quick opportunity of removing them. That's why I ditched mine in favor of this smart key tracker that doubles as a handy key organizer. The KeySmart iPro is a smart key organizer that neatly organizes my keys together, while also acting as a lifesaving tool in the event it goes missing thanks to its Find My support. Essentially, it's an AirTag disguised as a key organizer and I love it. For less than the cost of two AirTags, I think the KeySmart iPro still has value. I'd go far to say it's one of the best key finders around. Here's why. Keep your keys organized and in one place with the KeySmart iPro, which also supports Apple's Find My function to keep track of its location in the event it's lost or missing. There's also a built-in flashlight when you need check: $49 @ KeySmart I have so much stuff on my keychain that it's gotten so out of control in the last year, so I needed a change — but still want the peace of mind that an AirTag offers. I got all of that and more when I finally switched to the KeySmart iPro because of how it better organizes my keys. In fact, it can support up to 14 keys thanks in part to its design that lets me quickly expand it. While I don't have that many keys on me, I did manage to get the six main keys I need for my home. Much like a Swiss Army Knife, all the keys fold inside of it — but it typically accommodates standard keys that are uniformly flat. Meaning, I can't install my car key because of how the fob has a thicker base for its controls. Despite this, I managed to get all my other keys to fit inside of the KeySmart iPro after carefully figuring out how to best place them inside. What I really love most about it is how it supports Apple's Find My function, which practically gives it the same tracking abilities of the AirTag — but in a discreet design. Through the Find My app, I can see its location on a map and even play a sound to help me track it down easier around my home if I forgot where I put it last. On top of that, I really appreciate the notification I get every time it senses that I've left it behind. Get instant access to breaking news, the hottest reviews, great deals and helpful tips. Unlike other smart key finders, like those from Tile or Nomad's Tracking Card, it doesn't rely on a battery I need to replace — nor does it require a proprietary charging cable. Instead, the KeySmart iPro features a USB-C port covered by a plastic flap that's much more convenient in my opinion. Not only is it rated for up to 30 days of battery life, but the simple fact it's a USB-C port makes it more ideal because I can charge it just about anywhere. There's also a built-in flashlight, which isn't as powerful as my phone's flashlight, but nonetheless helpful when I can't find anything else around. Now that I've been using this, I don't plan on going back to a regular keychain with an AirTag attached to it. For its $49 cost, I think it justifies its value over other smart key finders, especially when it actually organizes my keys. And yes, it comes with a bottle opener as well so now I don't have to ask a waiter for one at a BYOB restaurant.

Best Picks Acting Editor shares her Euro summer essentials: July, RayBan, Hommey and more
I'm heading home this weekend for a much needed Euro summer break to spend time in the sun with friends and family. While I always try my best to pack light, it's been two years since my last return so I've given myself plenty of room for gifts (plus a few additional outfit options). There's a few familiar faces going into my case this time around, like my ride or die sandals, Uniqlo AIRism tees and Ena Pelly denim shorts. But I've also treated myself to some new summer essentials; think trendy sunglasses, comfy pjs and a sleek one piece to replace my old swimmers that have seen better days. Other new additions joining me on my travels are these handy Tile trackers. They work using Bluetooth to track and map out exactly where they are, so I'll be popping one inside my checked luggage to follow it en route. Despite being a seasoned traveller, I chop and change the essentials I'm hauling overseas. This time around, there are 7 items that have made the cut — and I've popped them below. 1. Light Max Expandable Case, was $335 now $201 at American Tourister While I'm a big advocate for carry-on luggage, an international trip requires a larger case for all kinds of big and bulky items that I'm hauling back to the UK. My old case was due for an upgrade and American Tourister had been on my radar for a long time, and the Light Max Expandable 82cm ticks all the boxes. Large in size but incredibly lightweight (it weighs only 4kg) the fact it expands for extra room is a game-changer. 2. Alyssia Top and Pant set, from $132 at Sabo Did someone say Wimbledon whites? While there's no dress code that says you have to wear the colour, it's a fun tradition that lots of attendees share. Sabo's Alyssia two piece is the perfect solution to dressing for a day at the courts, I'll be adding a pair of comfy sandals and opting for an oversized denim jacket to chuck over the top. 3. Fairway Green Classic Umbrella, $159 at Blunt Umbrellas It's no secret that rain often makes an appearance during the British summertime, so I've made sure my Blunt umbrella is really to be packed inside my case. Instead of the trusty black version I also own, it felt only fitting that the Fairway Green joins me on my travels as I head to Wimbledon since it matches the brief perfectly! 4. Ray-Ban Zena Bio-Based, $207 at Sunglass Hut Every vacation needs a great pair of sunnies, and I had been eyeing up this pair of Ray-Bans for a while. Instead of jet-black, I've noticed that lighter colours better suit my complexion, especially brown colours and tortoise shell print s in slightly slimmer frames. Retailing for $207 over at Sunglass Hu t, I think they are a total steal for such a renowned eyewear brand. 5. Juliette Soft Work Tote, $325 at July My July carry-on case has been my trusty companion for a few years now, but I've been after a smaller bag to safely carry my laptop and other items I like to keep close. Everyone has been talking about the new Juliette tote — and for good reason. Made from a soft buttery PU coated fabri c, it feels luxe and expensive, and has a handy removable drink bottle holder, secure zipper and pass-through band so I can easily slide over luggage handles onto both carry-on and checked-in cases. 6. Capri Sleep Top and Short, from $59 at Hommey Perhaps not the usual packing essential, but I recently treated my PJ drawer to a new set from Aussie brand Hommey and they are heading overseas with me. The extra soft and stretchy cotton jersey fabric is perfect for lounging and sleeping, and the 'Capri' blue stripe print is perfect for a Euro summer. 7. Zarla One Shoulder One Piece, $240 at JETS Seafolly's sister brand, JETS has become my go-to for well-fitting swimwear. From bikinis to one pieces, the styles provide great support for bigger busts and curves. The latest arrival that caught my eye is the Zarla one piece, with a sleek one shoulder and subtle waist cinch. While it's a gorgeous print for Euro summer, I know it'll be on high rotation once summer rolls back around in Sydney.
