Diamondbacks ban season ticket holder for rest of season after interference during game vs. Giants

PHOENIX — The Arizona Diamondbacks have banned a season-ticket holder from Chase Field for the rest of the season because of 'multiple offenses' during games, including fan interference on a fly ball to the wall during Monday night's game against the San Francisco Giants. The D-backs were leading 3-2 in the eighth inning on Monday when San Francisco's Christian Koss hit a long fly ball to left field. Arizona left fielder Tim Tawa tried to make a leaping grab, but the fan made the catch with his own glove, appearing to reach over the fence.

Diamondbacks ban fan who interfered with apparent would-be Giants HR for rest of season, citing 'multiple offenses'

The Arizona Diamondbacks fan who was ejected Monday for interfering with an apparent would-be San Francisco Giants home run has now been banned for the rest of the season. The Diamondbacks announced the ban in a statement Tuesday afternoon, citing "multiple offenses" committed by the fan. "The particular fan has been involved in multiple offenses at Chase Field," the statement reads. "Consequently we have terminated his Advantage Member account and he is prohibited from returning to Chase Field for the remainder of 2025. "This fan will have the opportunity to return to Chase Field in 2026 so long as he meets certain terms and abides by our fan code of conduct." Advertisement The Diamondbacks did not identify the fan. He identified himself in an interview with Arizona Sports 98.7 FM on Tuesday. We won't publicize his name here. But he has, indeed, committed multiple offenses. His latest was during Monday's Diamondbacks-Giants game. With the Diamondbacks holding a 3-2 lead in the top of the eighth inning, Giants third baseman Christian Koss hit a deep fly ball to left-centerfield that appeared to be tracking over the wall for a game-tying solo home run. Instead, said Diamondbacks fan dove across three other fans and on top of the outfield wall to snag the ball with his glove. Diamondbacks outfielder Tim Tawa made a play on the ball at the same time. But the ball appeared to be out of his reach and headed over the outfield wall if not for the fan's interference with the ball itself. Advertisement Umpires initially ruled the play an out for fan interference. Upon review after a Giants challenge, they determined that the fan didn't make contact with Tawa and that Tawa couldn't have caught the ball. They also ruled the ball a ground-ruled double, not convinced that the ball was going to carry over the wall. The video's above. You be the judge. Instead of a game-tying solo home run or an out, umpires awarded Koss second base. He did not come around to score, and the Diamondbacks went on to a 4-2 win. The fan was ejected from the stadium. And on Tuesday he learned of his ban. It's not clear exactly how many times the fan has interfered with the baseball games from his outfield seat at Chase Field. Jomboy Media documented four instances in the last four seasons. The fan himself told 98.7 FM on Tuesday that he'd caught 24 home run balls in his life and that doing so is "one of my things." His thing for the rest of the season will be watching Diamondbacks games from home.

MLB fan sparks outrage after being removed from stadium for interfering with the match in Diamondbacks vs. Giants game

Even though the fan was later escorted out of the Chase Stadium, it has sparked a debate among fans and many are furious at this decision. A fan was escorted out during the match between the Giants and Diamondbacks and it has sparked outrage The San Francisco Giants' Christian Koss was about to make a home run when the fan interfered. For the unversed, as Christian Koss hit the ball to centre in the eighth inning, Arizona Diamondbacks' Tim Tawa made a run for it and tried to catch the ball but was unsuccessful as a middle aged fan dressed in the Diamondbacks' jersey ended up catching the ball with his glove before Tawa. This brought the game to a standstill as umpires got together to figure out the next step. While first it was ruled as fan interference, the San Francisco Giants challenged it and the footage was later reviewed. It was revealed that even without the fan interference, Tim Tawa would not have been able to catch the ball but yet Christian Koss ended up with a double instead of a home run. Now, as the fan was escorted out of the stadium for interfering in the match, it has sparked outrage. MLB fans are furious at the decision of ejecting the fan out of the stadium.(Image via X) Another fan by the username @MrMarvelTV commented, 'Still don't understand why they threw out the fan if it was overturned as 'not fan interference.' It was a home run if the fan didn't touch the ball. Although technically the fan did save the DBacks from a home run and a tied ball game there since the guy ended up on second base.' A third fan by the username @RPGuy16 posted, 'They put fans right up against the wall where the ball is in play and then blame fans when they become part of the play. Makes no sense', while another user by the username @Eric08508652 wrote, 'I agree with the call. Disagree with the ejection.' While the Arizona Diamondbacks ended up winning the match, neither of the teams has issued a statement about this yet. Diamondbacks fan removed from win over Giants after controversial interference review

Arizona Diamondbacks left fielder Tim Tawa tried to make a grab at the wall on Monday night, but a fan beat him to it. (AP/Rick Scuteri) An Arizona Diamondbacks fan was escorted out of Chase Field on Monday night after he interfered with what was nearly a home run for Christian Koss. The San Francisco Giants infielder hit a deep fly ball to center in the eighth inning that went all the way to the wall and appeared to be on track to give him a solo home run. That would have tied the game up at the time, too. But as Diamondbacks outfielder Tim Tawa jumped up to try and make the catch at the wall, a man in a red Diamondbacks shirt reached out and actually made the grab above Tawa with his own glove. The fan seemed to lose his balance while making the grab, too, but he caught himself in time before flipping over the wall and falling down onto the field. Advertisement Initially, it was ruled an out due to fan interference. But the Giants challenged the play, and it was later determined that there was no fan interference as Tawa wasn't actually in a position to make the catch. The fan didn't appear to make contact with Tawa, either, which helped back that argument up. But that led to Koss receiving a double instead of a home run, as the ball wasn't quite on track to cross the outfield wall. That kept the tying run off the board. After everything, the fan in question was then escorted out of the stadium. Both Rafael Devers and Heliot Ramos then struck out after Koss, which ended the inning and kept the Diamondbacks out in front. Arizona then added another run in the bottom of the inning after Eugenio Suárez hit a solo home run. That put them up by two and sealed the 4-2 win. Advertisement That snapped a four-game losing skid from the Diamondbacks, who were just swept by the Miami Marlins before Monday night's series-opener with the Giants. They now sit at 42-42 on the year. The Giants, at 45-40, have also lost three straight and six of their last seven. While the fan's interaction undoubtedly altered the game in the moment, the ball was short of the wall anyways, the Giants still had work to do to actually tie the game up, and they missed an opportunity to hit the game-tying run in even after the incident.
