Woman seriously hurt in hit-and-run in Fort McMurray; RCMP need help finding vehicle
Police in Fort McMurray need help to locate a vehicle involved in a hit-and-run early Thursday morning. It happened around 3:25 a.m. at the intersection of Parsons Creek Drive and Paris Crescent in the Timberlea area. A 65-year-old woman suffered serious life-threatening injuries after being hit by a vehicle. Police said the driver left the scene without helping the woman. The vehicle involved is believed to be a light-coloured SUV, possibly a Jeep Patriot. Police believe it will have damage to the front corner bumper and signal light. Anyone with information about the hit-and-run or that has video from the area between 3 and 4 a.m. is asked to contact Wood Buffalo RCMP.

Dirt biker wanted after fleeing police in Fort McMurray

(Supplied) RCMP are looking for a person wanted for catwalking their dirt bike while fleeing police in Fort McMurray on Sunday. Mounties said officers saw the electric dirt bike rider driving the bike in a 'careless manner' on Powder Drive in the Timberlea area at about 5:50 p.m. Officers tried to stop the rider, but RCMP said the person fled with 'complete disregard' for their own safety or the safety of other drivers and pedestrians and almost caused a crash. The rider then drove into oncoming lanes of traffic before hopping the curb and 'catwalked' down the sidewalk along Powder Drive, RCMP said, adding that officers did not chase the rider due to the 'significant' risk to the public. The rider is described as a young adult or youth wearing a black helmet and all black clothing. They were riding a black electric dirt bike with no licence plate. (Supplied) It is illegal to operate off-highway vehicles on Fort McMurray roads (outside of the Abasand neighbourhood), sidewalks, urban trails and in parks and green spaces. 'Despite increased patrols and repeated safety information disseminated by RCMP on the dangers of driving off-highway vehicles in such a manner, Wood Buffalo RCMP continue to see an increase in these incidents,' RCMP said in a Monday press release. Anyone with information can call RCMP or report it anonymously to Crime Stoppers.

Canadian retail chain Pet Valu joins Nova Scotia Loyal program

(Source: Province of Nova Scotia) Canadian retailer Pet Valu has joined the Nova Scotia Loyal program, which uses 'Made in Nova Scotia' stickers to identify locally-made products on store shelves. The province says there are more than a dozen registered Nova Scotia Loyal businesses that produce pet products, including food, treats, apparel, leashes, harnesses and collars and toys. A full list can be found here. Among them is Ocean Pride Fisheries outside Yarmouth, which makes Panaea, a nutritional booster for pets made from the flower of sea cucumbers. Man facing charges after armed and barricaded incident in Timberlea: N.S. RCMP
An RCMP detachment can be seen in this file photo. (David Prisciak/CTV News) A man is facing charges following an armed and barricaded incident in Timberlea, N.S. RCMP Halifax Regional Detachment responded to a report of a disturbance at a home on Lakehigh Crescent shortly after midnight on Sunday. 'Investigators learned that a man armed with a knife had gained entry into the home through the front door and threatened to harm himself. When a female occupant, who was known to the man, asked him to leave, he refused and barricaded himself inside,' reads a news release from the Nova Scotia RCMP. The man exited the home after about three hours of communicating with the RCMP Crisis Negotiation Team and was arrested, according to police. A 33-year-old woman and three children were inside the home at the time of the incident and police say they were unharmed. The unnamed man has been charged with two counts of failure to comply with a probation order and mischief.
