(AP pic) AUSTIN : Tomas Rodriguez's 19th-minute goal proved enough for Panama to beat Guatemala 1-0 today in a Concacaf Gold Cup match at Austin, Texas. The result leaves Panama (2-0-0, 6 points) atop Group C ahead of Jamaica (1-0-1, 3 points) and Guatemala (1-0-1, 3 points). Guadeloupe (0-2-0, 0 points) are in last place. An impressive passing sequence led to Rodriguez's goal. Fidel Escobar chipped a long ball to Amir Murillo running into the right side of the penalty area. Murillo head it down, and Rodriguez beat his defender to the ball and volleyed it past goalkeeper Nicholas Hagen. Orlando Mosquera made one save while recording a clean sheet for Panama. Hagen was credited with seven saves. Panama's final Group C match is against Jamaica on Wednesday in Austin. Guatemala faces Guadeloupe on Wednesday in Houston.

Cape Coral Police said attempted kidnapping probe revealed minor provided partial story
Nearly a week after Cape Coral Police began to investigate a reported attempted kidnapping — which happened an hour before a separate North Fort Myers suspicious incident, authorities say conversations with the minor and his family "may not have accurately reflected all of the facts of the incident." Authorities said a juvenile reported he left his home around 7:30 a.m. to ride his bicycle to his bus stop. The juvenile said he sat down at the bench at the intersection of Northeast 41st Street and Andalusia Boulevard when a black SUV driving south on Andalusia pulled up next to him with two men inside. According to initial reports, one of the men lunged at the child, who said he then got on his bicycle and rode back home. The minor said the driver was wearing a graphic T-shirt and the passenger was wearing a puffy black jacket and ripped jeans. They were in a black SUV with possible front-end damage. According to police, its Violent Crimes Unit began to investigate that morning. Police on May 12 stated they believe an incident occurred, but not an attempted abduction. Cypress Lake high schooler arrested for written threats against school safety, LCSO says
A Lee County high schooler faces charges after authorities say he had a magazine depicting various types of firearms and made several concerning statements while on school grounds. On Feb. 5, the school resource officer at Cypress Lake High School was notified by an individual of concerning behavior by the accused student. During the preliminary investigation, the officer learned the 15-year-old student had a magazine depicting various types of firearms and made several concerning statements while on school grounds. Based on the statements made, the officer immediately requested a review of the search history on the student's school-issued Chromebook, the Lee County Sheriff's Office said Tuesday evening in a news release posted to their Facebook post. The sheriff's office said a review revealed a "deeply concerning" search history that included a killer's manifesto and articles on violent incidents and shootings. School Threat Enforcement Team detectives responded and assumed the investigation, the sheriff's office said. Detectives learned the student, over a short timeframe, conducted numerous searches about school shootings and mass casualty incidents. Sheriff's deputy convicted: Ex-Hendry County sheriff's deputy convicted in federal court of using excessive force Since the student's actions disrupted several individuals during normal school functions, the sheriff's office said, detectives established probable cause to issue a delinquency citation for disruption of a school function. On Tuesday, detectives obtained search warrants for the student's cellphone and laptop, where they discovered he communicated plans he fantasized about carrying out. The sheriff's office said detectives had probable cause to arrest the student for transmitting an electronic threat to conduct an act of terrorism. Authorities said the incident remains active as the sheriff's office's School Threat Enforcement Team continues to investigate this matter alongside the State Attorney's Office. Miami man, 65, killed in crash believed caused by medical episode south of Naples
A 65-year-old Miami man died in an Alligator Alley crash Monday. Authorities are not ruling out it could have been caused by a medical episode. The wreck happened just after 7:15 a.m. Monday along Alligator Alley, at the 97-mile marker, south of Naples, according to a Florida Highway Patrol incident report. Troopers were dispatched Monday morning to the scene of the single-vehicle crash of a Toyota Corolla. In the crash, troopers said, a Toyota Corolla traveled off the road, possibly caused by a medical episode. After the car veered off the road, it entered the median and collided with a dirt pile related to a construction site.
