Happy Gilmore 2 is set to debut on big — well, multi-sized — screens near you on Netflix, as the movie will feature Adam Sandler returning for the sequel to mid-90s cult classic. Kalshi, a prediction market exchange betting platform that takes bets on real-life events, says the movie is expected to receive modest critical acclaim from Rotten Tomatoes. At the time of writing, Kalshi has an Over/Under score on Rotten Tomatoes of 46.2 percent (Tomatometer score), although this represents a steady decrease from the original, which was released in 1996. The market has received tons of betting action from the public, with $86,231 wagered on the reception of this movie at the time of writing. Happy Gilmore (1996) received a 63 percent on the popular film review site. There's also the option of going higher than those projected numbers, with a bettor potentially being more or less bullish on that rating. Adam Sandler teeing off again as Happy Gilmore. GC Images Kalshi currently projects that this slapstick comedy movie will receive a rating above 90 percent from Rotten Tomatoes, meaning a $10 bet would payout $167 if the movie somehow does eclipse that lofty standard. Sandler will be re-joined by Ben Stiller, Julie Bowen and Christopher McDonald in the highly anticipated sequel. A sequel hitting 90 percent would be a surprise, but not unprecedented. Toy Story 2 performed exceptionally well (100 percent rating) back in 1999. Kalshi betting odds posted. Kalshi Learn all you need to know about MLB Betting There have been some major duds at the box office for sequels, with Hangover Part 2 coming in at 34 percent and Sandler-led flick Grown Ups 2 getting a horrific seven percent. It's an honor that few movies have received in 2025, with just one comedy, baseball movie Eephus, achieving this distinction by scoring a 100 percent from the critics. ‘Toy Story' is returning to theaters this year. Here's when and why.
Pixar and Disney are welcoming fans back to Andy's room as "Toy Story" is returning to movie theaters soon. Pixar, an animation studio owned by Disney, announced the film's theatrical return in an X post on Thursday, July 17. "Mark your calendars! Disney & Pixar's Toy Story returns to the BIG SCREEN September 12," the X post reads. Originally released in theaters on Nov. 22, 1995, the first-ever fully computer-animated feature film will return to theaters to celebrate its 30th anniversary, according to Pixar. What is 'Toy Story' about? "Toy Story" follows a group of toys belonging to Andy Davis. When Andy is away from his toys, they come alive, including the film's central characters, Buzz Lightyear( Tim Allen) and Woody (Tom Hanks). Woody, who is a cowboy doll, is "profoundly jealous" when Buzz Lightyear, a spaceman action figure, "supplants him as the top toy in (Andy's) bedroom," IMDB's synopsis for the film reads. The two toys have to eventually "put aside their differences" once they are separated from Andy in the movie. Directed by John Lasseter, "Toy Story" became one of the highest-grossing films of 1995. According to a June 2022 newsletter from the Oscars, when the movie was released, "animation was changed forever." "The genre, known for transporting audiences to new worlds, was up until that point mostly hand-drawn, using techniques made popular by Walt Disney Studios and Warner Bros," the newsletter says. "But when Disney joined forces with Pixar — a then-up-and-coming computer animation studio chaired by Steve Jobs — for 'Toy Story,' the first computer-animated feature film was born, and a new world of film was unlocked." More news: Disneyland turns 70: See photos of the magic from then to now 'Toy Story' was just the beginning "Toy Story" was not a one-off, as several sequels came after the film's initial release, including "Toy Story 2," "Toy Story 3," "Toy Story 4," and the upcoming "Toy Story 5," which is expected to hit theaters in 2026. "Buzz, Woody, Jessie are challenged after being introduced to what kids are obsessed with today: electronics," IMDB's synopsis for "Toy Story 5" reads. What inspired 'Toy Story'? According to the Academy Awards' newsletter, Lasseter's Oscar-winning short film "Tin Toy" inspired the then-new Disney-Pixar partnership to "explore a movie from a small toy's perspective." While the script for "Toy Story" underwent rewrites, computer scientists were working on building the software that would eventually make computer animation possible. "We were not filmmakers at the time," she recalled. "We did not understand film language. We were simply doing whatever we were told to get graphic images on the screen by programming as quickly as we could to get the pictures made… and we were learning along the way.' "Toy Story" paved the way for animated films, even leading to the Academy Awards creating an Oscar category for Best Animated Feature. Its success also led to the creation of Toy Story Land, a themed area at Disney's Hollywood Studios in Walt Disney World in Orlando, Florida. "It was a movie. It was lit, it was dimensional, we had cameras moving around through things. We had Steadicam kind of shots, all that stuff, and it felt like a movie," Lasseter said of the film, per the newsletter. "Yet, they were cartoony, and they were moving like cartoons, and yet I could touch them. They were plastic. It was all that uniqueness — understanding the limitations of what the medium was at that time, and creating the characters and the storytelling." Florida State, Alabama War of Words Continues: 'Disrespect Will be Addressed'
The Alabama Crimson Tide travel to Tallahassee to play the Florida State Seminoles on Aug. 30, in one of the headline games in Week 1 of the 2025 college football season — and there has been plenty of chirping from Florida State's starting quarterback. Speaking about Alabama earlier this offseason, Florida State quarterback Thomas Castellanos said he couldn't see the Crimson Tide "stopping" him and that "they don't have Nick Saban to save them" — not to be mistaken with Prospector telling Woody "that silly Buzz Lightweight can't help you" in "Toy Story 2"; Saban retired following the 2023 season after 17 years at the helm and winning six national titles at Alabama. A video surfaced earlier this week of Castellanos saying that he "just wanted to instill some confidence" in his team. Nevertheless, Alabama defensive lineman Tim Keenan III had a direct response when asked about Castellanos. "Disrespect will be addressed," Keenan said at SEC Media Days on Wednesday, according to Last season, Keenan, who stands at 6-foot-2 and 335 pounds, totaled 2.5 sacks, eight tackles for loss and 40 combined tackles. Keenan is entering his redshirt senior season at Alabama, with whom he has spent his entire collegiate career (2022-present) and started the past two seasons. As for Castellanos, the senior quarterback transferred to Florida State after two seasons at Boston College (2023-24) and one season at UCF (2022). Last season, Castellanos totaled 1,366 passing yards, 18 passing touchdowns, five interceptions and a 163.4 passer rating, while completing 61.5% of his passes in eight games. The year prior (2023), he posted a 121.0 passer rating, completed 57.3% of his passes but also rushed for 1,113 yards and 13 touchdowns. Both Alabama and Florida State are coming off underwhelming seasons but in vastly different contexts. Alabama went 9-4 (5-3 in SEC play), the most losses it has recorded in a single season since going 7-6 in 2007 in what was Saban's first season as Alabama's head coach, in what was Kalen DeBoer's first season as head coach. Meanwhile, Florida State, which went 13-1 in 2023 and had many clamoring for its inclusion in the College Football Playoff after going 13-0 before bowl season, finished the 2024 season at 2-10 (ACC-worst 1-7 in conference play). It was the Seminoles' lowest win total since winning just one game in the 1974 season. This will be just the sixth time that the Crimson Tide and Seminoles face off, with Alabama winning the last matchup between the two teams in 2017, 24-7, in what was a neutral site game at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta, GA. Each of their last two matchups came at a neutral site, with the upcoming Week 1 matchup being the first time that they'll play on a college campus since 1974 and the first time Florida State will host Alabama. The Crimson Tide are 3-1-1 in the all-time head-to-head matchup. Want great stories delivered right to your inbox? Both of which are usually contained in a red cardboard box with a yellow smiley face and the McDonald's logo. The first toys included a McDonald's themed stencil, a wallet and a spinning top. However, as the years flew past, the toys got more sought after as they tied in with the latest craze or new film release. Hungry youngsters were likely to find action figures, toy cars and puzzles inside the boxes down the decades. In recent years, McDonald's has started phasing out plastic toys in favour of more sustainable items. But how much are the most legendary toys now worth? TY Teenie Beanie Babies These were mini soft toys that were in meal boxes in 1997, during the Beanie Babies craze. There were huge queues at some McDonald's restaurants for them. Toy Story 2 figures These were released in 2000 to tie in with the huge blockbuster Toy Story 2. They included Woody, Slinky Dog and Buzz Lightyear, which everyone wanted. A set of six toys from that collection is listed on eBay for £25. Sonic games Sonic the Hedgehog handheld games were given in Happy Meals in 2003. The original song was written by Randy Newman for the Toy Story 2 soundtrack and was key to a tear-jerking scene where the character Emily takes a trip down memory lane after parting with her Jessie the Cowgirl doll. The composition was nominated for the Best Original Song at the 2000 Academy Awards, where Newman and McLachlan performed it during the awards broadcast. The updated take on the tune for The Simpsons plays out after Marge carries out a box of Bart and Lisa's old toys, including figures of the ultraviolent cat and mouse duo, Itchy & Scratchy. The children feel they have outgrown the blood-soaked cartoon characters since they launched a line of baby merchandise. 'I knew my kids were growing up, but I never thought they'd grow apart,' says Marge. 'And I think I'm the only one who cares.' As she leaves the discard box on the curb, Itchy & Scratchy declare, 'We care, Marge' and the song begins. As a montage of favourite Bart and Lisa enjoying Itchy & Scratchy moments plays, McLachlan chimes in: This advertisement has not loaded yet, but your article continues below. 'When B and Lisa love us things were just so beautiful / blood would flow but also so would love,' she sings, noting the children's peals of laughter watching 'violence and horrors quite unsuitable for children / as out guts rain from above.' It puts the weepy ballad into a whole new world. McLachlan teased the parody piece on social media, noting it's 'The parody song you never saw coming … still kinda heartbreaking, no?' The singer included an animated frame of her standing with Itchy and a decapitated Scratchy, as well. It's not the first time McLachlan's been open to reworking one of her greatest hits. The singer-songwriter parodied her 1998 song 'Angel' and its use in an animal-rights fundraising campaign several times, including in a sketch for the Juno Awards and a Super Bowl beer commercial.
