Liverpool chief admits Alexander-Arnold disappointment and sends parting message

Trent Alexander-Arnold left his boyhood club Liverpool to join Real Madrid and club chairman Tom Werner has now given an insight into the process - and admitted his disappointment Liverpool chairman Tom Werner has conceded that the club hierarchy were disappointed when Trent Alexander-Arnold informed them he wanted to leave. Alexander-Arnold turned down the offer of a new contract with his boyhood club in order to join Real Madrid this summer. While he was originally set to join Real as a free agent when his Liverpool deal expired on June 30, Alexander-Arnold ended up leaving earlier. The Spanish giants paid Liverpool £8.4million to sign him early, so he could play for them at the Club World Cup. ‌ His decision was the opposite of Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dijk, who decided to sign new contracts, and was met with fury by some supporters, who accused him of betraying the club. Emotions were high in the final few games of the season and Werner has admitted that owners Fenway Sports Group were similarly upset initially. ‌ "We do respect the fact that Trent has moved on,' Werner told The Liverpool Echo. 'I told someone recently this story about seeing Trent on the last weekend of the season, with Billy [Hogan, chief executive] and I just wanted him to know from me personally we are and were as a club thankful for all his contributions. "He showed me a picture when he was seven years old, when he was a young kid at the academy, and I have a lot of fondness for all that he has done and so it is time for him to move and time for us to replace him. "We do wish him well and I understand the emotions of supporters who were disappointed and we were disappointed too but it is overshadowed by my wonderful memories of him. "I'll never forget that pass he made, the corner he took, for the fourth goal against Barcelona. That was just a work of genius and as a football fan, watching some of his assists, the way he would pass the ball 30-plus yards to a specific point and create a goal was wonder Real Madrid are delighted!" Alexander-Arnold has made three appearances for Real at the Club World Cup and is trying to get used to his new team-mates and the language barrier. He is learning Spanish and says the integration has been made easier by manager – and former Liverpool star – Xabi Alonso. ‌ 'Every player is impressing me,' Alexander-Arnold told reporters after the 3-0 win over RB Salzburg. 'From when I played against Real Madrid, (I knew) all the players are world class. But just the way the lads are, when you come in, you expect it to be very intimidating, you don't know what to expect. 'But it was very warm, very welcoming, they made me feel at home straight away, which was amazing. It allows me to play as well as I can and today coming into the game, I was confident to go and perform. 'The settlement period now is done and it's about kicking on and being the best player that I can be and giving the best for the team and helping the team win as many games as possible starting with this competition.' Trent Alexander-Arnold speaks out about Real Madrid as he makes Liverpool point

Trent Alexander-Arnold has not been at Real Madrid for long, but the England international's new team-mates have already made an impression following his move from Liverpool Trent Alexander-Arnold has admitted that while he knew his Real Madrid team-mates were going to be world-class, he didn't expect them to be so friendly. The England international moved to Los Blancos after the La Liga giants agreed to pay Liverpool £10million to sign him a month ahead of schedule. He was initially going to move to the Spanish capital as a free agent, but Real's desire to include Alexander-Arnold in their Club World Cup squad prompted them to pay a fee to sign him earlier. In their final group match in the USA, Xabi Alonso deployed the right-back for the full 90 minutes as they beat RB Salzburg 3-0. ‌ It was the latest sign that the defender is further settling into life at the 15-time European champions. Even Alexander-Arnold, who knew the quality they'd possess having faced them five times for his boyhood club, is surprised by the way his new team-mates have taken to him. ‌ Speaking to reporters after Real overcame the Austrian side, Alexander-Arnold said: "Every player is impressing me. From when I played against Real Madrid, [I knew] all the players are world class. "But just the way the lads are; when you come in, you expect it to be very intimidating, you don't know what to expect. But it was very warm, very welcoming, they made me feel at home straight away, which was amazing. "It allows me to play as well as I can and today coming into the game, I was confident to go and perform. The settlement period now is done. "It's about kicking on and being the best player that I can be and giving the best for the team and helping the team win as many games as possible starting with this competition.' Alexander-Arnold won two Premier League titles, the Champions League, the FA Cup, the Club World Cup (in its previous format) and two League Cups during his time at Liverpool. Throughout his time at Anfield, he contributed 67 assists, more than any other defender in Premier League history. ‌ When he arrived at his new club, he endeared himself to his colleagues and supporters by speaking in Spanish during his unveiling. While that has gone some way to helping him make a good impression, Alexander-Arnold admits he is still struggling to get to grips with the language. He added: "Of course speaking and being a part of the conversation is harder. You work hard to try and understand what people are saying and be a part of it. ‌ "But the manager speaks to me a lot individually to make sure I understand everything that gets said. The meetings are in Spanish so he goes out his way and the staff go out the way to make sure I understand the game plan. So there's differences but it's just football.' Real progressed into the last 16 of the competition as group winners. They started the campaign with a 1-1 draw with Saudi Arabian side Al Hilal, before overcoming Mexican team Pachuca and then Salzburg. They face Juventus, who were demolished 5-2 by Manchester City in their final group match, in the next round on July 1.

'The Demand At Real Madrid Is...': Gareth Bale's Word Of Caution To Trent Alexander-Arnold

Last Updated: Gareth Bale advises Trent Alexander-Arnold on Real Madrid's high expectations. Bale, a club legend, highlights the demanding nature. Trent joins from Liverpool until 2031. The lights are bright in the Premier League, but they shine the brightest at the Santiago Bernabeu. Former Real Madrid winger Gareth Bale would know the same, as the Welshman cautioned Los Blancos' newcomer Trent Alexander-Arnold about the weight of expectation that will be placed upon any who don the legendary whites. Bale is a certified modern-day legend for Real Madrid, having scored 106 goals – more than the original Ronaldo's tally of 104 for the club — and won 15 trophies – more than double of Zinedine Zidane's six as a player. The Welshman saw his last years at Real Madrid characterised by a breakdown in relations between him and the club, the fans, and the Madrid media. However, Bale did once enjoy happier times in Spain, including five Champions League titles, three LaLiga titles, four Club World Cups, one Copa Del Rey, and three European Super Cups. Amid the arrival of Trent Alexander-Arnold, Bale doled out a word of advice to the young Englishman to get going with life at the Santiago Bernabeu. 'It's a different experience from the Premier League,' Bale stated to Sky Sports. 'He's achieved a lot in the Premier League. But, the demand of Real Madrid though is something different. 'He'll soon understand what a demanding place it is. But, I'm sure he'll go there, enjoy it and do his best," the Real Madrid legend added. Alexander-Arnold, alongside Real Madrid president Florentino Perez, put his signature down on the contract, keeping him tied to the club until 2031. In his official presentation held in Valdebebas, Trent got off to a good start at Madrid, as he took to the media, addressing them in perfect Spanish, stunning all present. 'I'm aware that playing for Real Madrid comes with great responsibility, and I'm ready to give everything for the team and for the Madridistas. 'I can't wait to show my game, win many titles, become a champion, grow, and enjoy every moment alongside the best players in the world. 'Thank you, and Hala Madrid!" signed off Trent. The 26-year-old England international joined Real Madrid after winning nine titles with Liverpool: one Champions League, one Club World Cup, one European Super Cup, two Premier League titles, one FA Cup, two League Cups, and one FA Community Shield. Real Madrid working on another free agent deal; this PL star on the verge of leaving?

Real Madrid is reportedly working on another free agent deal after Trent Alexander-Arnold from Liverpool. By Ravi Kumar Jha Published on June 19, 2025, 18:57 IST Last updated June 19, 2025, 18:57 IST Real Madrid is reportedly working on another free agent deal after Trent Alexander-Arnold from Liverpool. The player who has been now listed is from Liverpool only and one of the great defenders in the PL right now. Ibrahima Konate has been rumoured to be leaving the side and Madrid are monitoring his situation closely. They are planning to make a move for the centre-back as they have a chance to get them as a free agent this summer. Real Madrid are reportedly working on yet another high-profile free agent deal, with Liverpool defender Ibrahima Konaté emerging as their latest target. Following reports linking Trent Alexander-Arnold with a potential free move to the Spanish capital, Konaté has now entered the spotlight as Los Blancos look to bolster their backline. According to several sources, Real Madrid are closely monitoring Konaté's situation at Anfield, with his contract set to run down. The 25-year-old Frenchman has established himself as one of the most promising centre-backs in the Premier League, combining pace, power, and composure to form a solid partnership with Virgil van Dijk. With uncertainty looming over Konaté's future and no contract extension agreed upon yet, Real Madrid see an opportunity to swoop in and secure the defender without a transfer fee. The La Liga giants are planning a strategic approach, similar to their previous free signings, as they aim to strengthen their squad without breaking the bank.
