Former TSR jawan loses 72L in investment scam

Agartala: A retired Tripura State Rifles jawan has reportedly lost Rs 72 lakh after investing in the stock market through a private broking firm, prompting him to seek police intervention, reports Biswendu Bhattacharjee. Bidhan Chandra Das, a resident of Jambura village in Khowai district, filed a complaint at Khowai police station against LFS Broking Pvt Ltd, alleging fraud. Das claims he was introduced to the firm by an individual named Tapas Shukladas and initially invested Rs 5 lakh in Sept 2020. Encouraged by the firm's promise of a 2% assured monthly return, he continued to invest in phases, eventually totalling Rs 72 lakh. Despite having a formal agreement guaranteeing monthly interest payments, Das discovered that the company had vanished, and he could no longer contact its representatives. The police have registered a case under IPC Section 420 and Section 318(4) of BNS, addressing cheating and fraudulent activities. Preliminary investigations have identified Syed Rahman as the managing director of the accused firm. Rahman is currently in judicial custody in Odisha's Khurda district for a similar fraud case. The investigation is ongoing.

Aizawl: The federal council of Mizo Zirlai Pawl (MZP) on Thursday called upon the Mizoram govt to take swift action regarding the explosion at a forest department rest house. The statement noted, "The fact that the explosion happened at the time the Tripura State Rifles were on duty can be regarded as intention to tarnish the image of Mizoram and also terrorise the villagers of Phuldungsei. " At the federal council meeting, which represents the organisation's second-highest decision-making body, members passed a resolution stating that the MZP would maintain its opposition to the Mizoram-Myanmar border fencing, citing concerns about its impact on the unity of 'Zofate' or ethnic Mizos. The council also resolved to address the issue of excessive fees charged by certain state-funded educational institutions. Additionally, they decided to pursue action against teachers who employ proxy staff, seeking govt intervention against those who use substitutes in their positions.
