PM Narendra Modi praised J-K CM Omar Abdullah's visit to Gujarat's Statue of Unity, highlighting its message of unity. Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday appreciated Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah's visit to the State of Unity in Gujarat's Kevadia, saying that this would give an important message of unity and would inspire others also to visit the monument. 'Kashmir to Kevadia! Good to see Shri Omar Abdullah Ji enjoying his run at the Sabarmati Riverfront and visiting the Statue of Unity. His visit to SoU gives an important message of unity and will inspire our fellow Indians to travel to different parts of India," PM Modi said in a post on X. He is expected to engage with tour operators and reconnect with the domestic travel market following the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack that deeply impacted tourism in Kashmir, news agency IANS reported. ANI. He also visited the Sardar Sarovar Dam and praised the project for bringing water to drought-affected areas. He also expressed optimism that with the suspension of the Indus Water Treaty, similar projects could be considered for Jammu and Kashmir, to address the water and power shortage. 'This dam has brought water to areas that knew nothing but drought… It has been J&K's misfortune that we could not even imagine such projects because we were not allowed to stop the water. Now that the Indus Water Treaty has been suspended, maybe there will be some such project in J&K too, so that there will be no shortage of power or water and electricity," he said as quoted by ANI. Earlier today, the J-K Chief Minister went for a morning jog at Sabaramti Riverfront in Ahmedabad and praised the popular promenade, calling it 'one of the nicest places" he has run. 'While in #Ahmedabad for a tourism event, I took advantage of being here to get my morning run at the famed Sabarmati River Front promenade. It's one of the nicest places I've been able to run & it was a pleasure to get to share it with so many other walkers/runners. I even managed to run past the amazing Atal Foot Bridge," he said in a post on X while sharing the photographs from the riverfront. Speaking on his visit, Abdullah said that there are three states, including Gujarat, from where the maximum number of tourists reach Jammu and Kashmir. 'Looking at the last 30-35 years, since tourism began, three states have been the primary sources of tourists to J&K: Gujarat, Maharashtra, and West Bengal. My team and I have come here for a tourism fair, to speak on behalf of J-K, hoping to see a good number of tourists from Gujarat very soon," he said. It is interesting to note that Abdullah is one of the major opposition leaders to visit the world's largest statue. Most of the opposition leaders have not visited the Statue of Unity since its inauguration in October 2018. All About Statue of Unity The Statue of Unity is a colossal monument honoring Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, a key figure in India's independence and its first Deputy Prime Minister. The larger-than-life statue of Vallabhbhai Patel, around 2.5 times the height of Qutub Minar and facing the grand Sardar Sarovar Dam, was inaugurated on October 31, 2018. The 182m statue is the world's tallest–23 metres taller than the Spring Temple Buddha in China and double the height of the Statue of Liberty in the United States. view comments Location : Ahmedabad, India, India First Published: July 31, 2025, 23:48 IST News india 'Kashmir To Kevadia': PM Modi Hails Omar Abdullah's Visit To Statue Of Unity, Sabarmati Riverfront Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's. 'Over 30 hours already lost': RS deputy chairman Harivansh laments repeated adjournments
New Delhi, Jul 24 (ANI): Rajya Sabha Deputy Chairman Harivansh Narayan Singh conducts the proceedings of the house during the Monsoon Session of Parliament, in New Delhi on Thursday. (Sansad TV/ANI Video Grab) NEW DELHI: As Opposition parties continued to disrupt proceedings in the Rajya Sabha to press for a discussion on the special intensive revision of electoral rolls in Bihar, Rajya Sabha deputy chairman Harivansh reminded them that the issue was already being adjudicated by the court, while also flagging the loss of over 30 hours of members' time in the current session to the repeated adjournments. Stating that the members have had an opportunity to raise 120 starred questions, 120 zero hour submissions and 120 special mentions since the start of monsoon session, Harivansh lamented that barely 11 starred questions, 3 zero hour submissions and 17 special mentions have been taken up. 'Total time lost was 30 hours and 6 minutes. This time belongs to members and (is) not the government's business time. The mandate given by the people has not been fulfilled. It is high time for us to introspect,' he said, addressing his opposition benches. Citing the resolution unanimously adopted by the Rajya Sabha on September 1, 1997, stating that 'the prestige of Parliament be preserved and enhanced, also by conscious and dignified conformity to the entire regime of rules of procedure and conduct of business of the Houses and directions of the presiding officers relating to orderly conduct of business,' Harivansh said the opposition members need to introspect on their conduct in light of the resolution. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Experts Tested 17 Hearing Aids. DMK's Tiruchi Siva, Congress's Pramod Tiwari and CPM's John Brittas tried to insist on govt indicating the day and time for a discussion on SIR, but the Chair dismissed this saying the court is already adjudicating the issue. He further added that EC being a constitutional body, 'there are provisions for discussions relating to it'. As members continued to protest the rejection of their notices under 267, the deputy chairman adjourned the House till 12 noon.

‘Manik Sarkar tried his best to defame state govt': Tripura CM Manik Saha reacts to ex-CM's allegations of feud between allies BJP, Tipra Motha
Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha Thursday responded to former chief minister and veteran CPI(M) leader Manik Sarkar's claim that ruling allies BJP and Tipra Motha were sparring with each other to gain political mileage ahead of the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC) elections, which are likely to be held next year. 'Time will speak for itself. You have to wait for the time. So, whenever there is a problem, we resolve it. Our former CM tried to say something else… Politically, he tried his best to defame this government and claim that we are not transparent…' Tripura CM Saha said. Citing the termination of 10,323 government school teachers by the Supreme Court during the erstwhile Left Front regime, Saha said, 'So far, employment is concerned, there is transparency. We are giving these job offers transparently. They didn't have the guts.' On Wednesday, Sarkar had also said, 'The BJP aims to expand its base, and the Tipra Motha is exerting pressure tactics to force them (BJP) to depend on them. All the public disputes are because of this. This is all about bargaining power.' He added that the BJP itself created the Tipra Motha, and that it was openly admitted by Lok Sabha MP and former chief minister Biplab Kumar Deb. Speaking on the tripartite Tiprasa Accord, Sarkar said the Tipra Motha leaders were misleading the people. 'They keep on changing their stand and raising new demands. But people have begun to look through their strategies. They would be isolated politically sooner or later,' the CPI(M) leader said. Sarkar's statement came in the wake of the alleged attack by Tipra Motha workers on BJP supporters in the Asharambari area of Khowai district last Sunday. Blaming Tipra Motha for the incident, CM Saha had said in a social media post, 'Strongly condemn the violent & undemocratic attack by TIPRA Motha party workers during Hon'ble PM Narendra Modi Ji's #MannKiBaat programme at Asharambari. Several BJP karyakartas injured, 3 undergoing treatment at GB Hospital. I visited the hospital, instructed doctors to provide best care & directed police to take strict action against perpetrators. Such disgraceful acts won't be tolerated.' Tipra Motha supremo Pradyot Kishore Manikya Debbarma had himself gone 'Live' on Facebook and criticised his party workers for the violence.
