Amarnath Yatra in Jammu: More than 180 companies of Paramilitary forces deployed, says IGP
'A multi-tier security setup is being put in place for the annual Amarnath Yatra, with more than 180 companies of Paramilitary forces deployed in the Jammu region,' officials said. The 38-day-long yatra is scheduled to start on July 3 from the twin routes — the traditional 48-km Pahalgam route in Anantnag district and the shorter but steeper 14-km Baltal route in the Ganderbal district — leading to the 3,880-metre-high holy cave shrine of Amarnath. The first batch of pilgrims will leave for Kashmir from the Jammu-based Bhagwati Nagar base camp a day before the start of the yatra. Amarnath Yatra routes declared 'no- fly zones' "The administration is ready and committed to ensuring a successful yatra this year. Jammu and Kashmir Police has made multi-tier security arrangements for the yatra," Inspector General of Police (IGP), Jammu Zone, Bhim Sen Tuti told reporters in Jammu. Mr. Tuti, who along with divisional commissioner, Jammu, Ramesh Kumar chaired a high-level meeting to review arrangements, including security, for the yatra, said, "Just like we have been providing security in previous years, this year, even better arrangements are being made, whether in terms of the number of paramilitary forces, deployment in sensitive areas, or CCTV surveillance. Compared to earlier, more vigilant and multi-layered security is being ensured." CRPF DG reviews security for Amarnath Yatra Replying to a question about the deployment of forces for the yatra in the region, he said, "Apart from Jammu and Kashmir Police, more than 180 companies of Paramilitary forces have been deployed for the yatra." He said that security forces have been deployed along the Jammu Kashmir National Highway from Lakhanpur to Banihal. "From road opening parties to CCTV cameras, everything has been set up, and security has also been provided at langars, lodging centres. There was no ROP (road opening party) arrangement from Lakhanpur to Jammu last year, but this year there will be ROP here as well," he said. The IGP added that starting from July 2, the traffic police will issue a daily advisory. "Cut-off timings will be fixed at all points related to yatra movement. All pilgrims who wish to participate in the yatra must follow this advisory so that there are no problems or inconveniences," he said. He said all pilgrims are advised to join the main convoy that departs between 4 a.m. and 4:30 am. "Travelling individually will not be appropriate. Those travelling with the official convoy are provided with a secure environment, and it is safer to travel in an organised and protected setup," he said.

JeM Terrorist Killed, Hunt On For Three Others In J&K's Udhampur Ahead Of Amarnath Yatra
Last Updated: The slain militant was part of a group of four JeM terrorists, who had been under surveillance for nearly a year In a major counter-terror operation ahead of the annual Amarnath Yatra, security forces on Thursday neutralized a terrorist affiliated with the Pakistan-based Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) in the Basantgarh area of Udhampur district in Jammu and Kashmir. The encounter, part of Operation Bihali, was launched jointly by the Indian Army and the Jammu and Kashmir Police, following specific intelligence inputs. According to officials, the slain militant was part of a group of four JeM terrorists, who had been under surveillance for nearly a year. While one terrorist has been killed, three others remain trapped in the dense forest area near Karoor Nullah. 'In the ongoing joint operation by the Indian Army and J&K Police, one terrorist has been neutralised. The operation is still in progress despite foggy conditions," said a defence spokesperson. Inspector General of Police (IGP) Jammu Zone Bhim Sen Tuti confirmed that contact was established with the terrorists around 8:30 am. 'This group has been on our radar for a long time. The terrain is difficult, and the bad weather has made the operation challenging, but reinforcements are in place," Tuti told reporters. Officials stated that the terrorists were confronted during a routine search when the joint party led by the Army's Para commandos tracked them down in the remote forests. Earlier in the day, the Army's White Knight Corps posted on X that the joint operation had successfully established contact with the terrorists and was actively underway. The high-stakes operation comes just days before the Amarnath Yatra, scheduled to begin on July 3, prompting heightened security measures across the region. On Wednesday, a multi-agency mock drill was also conducted at the Baltal base camp in Ganderbal, involving the Army, Jammu and Kashmir Police, NDRF, SDRF, CRPF, and disaster response teams to ensure foolproof security for the pilgrimage. Meanwhile, in a separate incident, security forces launched a search operation in the Purmandal area of Samba district late Wednesday following reports of suspicious movement. The operation concluded with no recovery or arrests, officials confirmed. First Published:

Search underway to track down 3 JeM terrorist in Udhampur, one killed
Security forces have launched a fresh search operation in the forested Basantgarh area of Udhampur district on Friday to track down three Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) terrorists believed to be hiding after an encounter on Thursday left one of their associates dead. Udhampur: A security personnel during a search operation after an encounter broke out between security forces and terrorists in a remote forested area, in Jammu and Kashmir's Udhampur district, Thursday, June 26, 2025. (PTI) Officials said the operation resumed early this morning, and news agency PTI reported that fresh reinforcements, drones, and sniffer dogs joined the effort. The group of four Pakistan-based JeM terrorists was confronted on Thursday in the Bihali area of Basantgarh by a joint team of the Army and police. A gunfight followed, in which one terrorist—identified as Haider alias Maulvi from Pakistan—was killed. Notably, Basantgarh is a known infiltration corridor for terrorists entering India from the International Border in Kathua. The search for the remaining three is ongoing. Earlier, Hindustan Times quoted Jammu zone Inspector General of Police (IGP) Bhim Sen Tuti as saying that the operation was launched based on specific intelligence inputs. 'The search operation is still on. The situation will become clear after the weather clears. It is a group of four terrorists. We had been monitoring these terrorists for the past year,' Tuti said. Security heightened amid Amarnath Yatra preps Security forces have conducted mock drills on the Jammu-Srinagar national highway ahead of the Yatra, which has historically been a major target for Pakistani terror groups. The first batch of pilgrims is scheduled to leave from Jammu on July 2. Also Read | 'Registration for Amarnath yatra down by 10% post J&K terror attack' Security has been heightened in the region with the annual Amarnath Yatra set to begin on July 3. Tuti said adequate arrangements are in place. 'This time around, we have got more paramilitary companies from the Centre,' he added. He also advised pilgrims to travel only with official convoys from the Yatri Niwas base camp in Jammu. 'Such pilgrims should avoid independent travel,' Tuti said. According to the Army's White Knight Corps, the terrorists were moving through forested terrain and using caves to avoid detection. Officials said the group was helped by overground workers (OGWs) for months. At least five OGWs have been arrested recently for aiding them with food and shelter. Sources said one of the JeM operatives being tracked is a local man who had returned from Pakistan and is now believed to be helping infiltrators. The encounter comes just weeks after heightened tensions in the region. On April 22, 26 people were killed in Pahalgam in a terror attack. That prompted India to launch Operation Sindoor on May 6, targeting terror camps. A short conflict followed between India and Pakistan from May 7 to 10 before ceasefire understanding.

JK: Jaish terrorists killed in Udhampur encounter
Ahead of Amarnath Yatra, a terrorist of Jaish -e-Mohammad (JeM) outfit was gunned down during an encounter between security forces and four terrorists in the Basantgarh area of Udhampur district on Thursday morning, army's Nagrota-based White Knight Corps stated on X. A securityman during a search operation after an encounter broke out between security forces and terrorists in a remote forested area, in Jammu and Kashmir's Udhampur district on Thursday. (PTI) Earlier, a senior police officer said that acting on an intelligence input, a joint operation was launched by the police and the army in Basantgarh during which they came under intense fire, triggering a gunfight. Additional reinforcements were rushed to the area. Jammu zone IGP Bhim Sen Tuti said the encounter took place around 8:30 am. 'The search operation is still on. The situation will become clear after the weather clears. It is a group of four terrorists. We had been monitoring these terrorists for the past year.' The IGP further said that adequate security arrangements were made for the ensuing Amarnath Yatra. 'This time around, we have got more paramilitary companies from the Centre,' he said. Tuti further informed that this year there shall be road opening parties on the Pathankot -Jammu national highway as well. The Jammu IGP also requested Amarnath pilgrims, who wish to start their Yatra from Jammu, to join only the official convoys for a safe and secure journey from Yatri Niwas base camp at Bhagwati Nagar. 'Such pilgrims should avoid independent travel,' he added. The Basantgarh encounter comes at a time when hardly a week has left for the annual Amarnath pilgrimage that begins July 3. The first batch of pilgrims from Jammu will be flagged off on July 2 for Pahalgam and Baltal-based camps. Meanwhile, security forces in Udhampur conducted a mock drill on Jammu-Srinagar national highway (NH 44) in view of the pilgrimage that has always remained a 'high value' target for the Pakistani terrorists. On April 22, Pakistani terrorists had attacked unarmed tourists in Pahalgam, leaving 26 dead and scores injured. The attack had compelled India to launch Operation Sindoor on May 6, resulting in strikes on terror camps. Consequently, India and Pakistan indulged in a conflict from May 7 to 10 before US president Donald Trump claimed he enforced a ceasefire between the two nuclear-armed countries.
