OT7 Finals: Garcia's takeaways from Saturday's action

FT. LAUDERDALE, Fla. – The pool play rounds of the 2025 OT7 Finals are now behind us as more of the nation's top prospects turned heads in South Florida on Saturday. Rivals was again on hand and provided some fresh takeaways from the action. OT7 FINALS: Recruiting Rumor Mill | Top performers from opening day CLASS OF 2026 RANKINGS: Rivals250 | Team | Position | State CLASS OF 2027 RANKINGS: Rivals250 | Team | Position | State The initial day of OT7 featured play-making from every position, but the quarterbacks were especially dominant on Saturday. We counted single-digit interceptions tossed on the entire day and night while high point totals were simultaneously achieved. In amassing a top performers list, at least half of a top 10 would include passers who sprayed it all over the field from Dereon Coleman (Miami), Derrick Baker, Briggs Cherry (Louisville), Gavin Sidwar (Missouri), Maika Eugenio (Hawaii), Neimann Lawrence and many more. The clear weather was an indicator of precise QB play on this day. The big-time passer headed to Georgia has a big frame and the big arm attached to it, something he has showed off on routine at OT7. When power and/or distance is needed, the five-star is seemingly at his best. He admitted there has been an up-and-down pace to his first club 7-on-7 event, but when Curtis has been right, it has looked plenty good to the point the Matt Stafford comparisons seem to make more and more sense. His team has taken some tough losses, so he'll be up against elimination early on championship Sunday. SHARE YOUR THOUGHTS WITH GEORGIA FANS AT The former Heisman Trophy winner commands his own attention in any setting, and he doesn't run from it, but there should be more said and/or written in regards to his longevity and true involvement with C1N. He is calling plays, letting his emotions fly and most importantly orchestrating perhaps the emerging favorite of this national tournament. Newton's squad, captained by breakout quarterback prospect Derrick Baker, goes for a 'one-point gamble' after every score and it has executed on a high enough level to convert well more than not. Among the stars of Saturday were a trio of 2028 recruits, from IMG Academy's do-it-all talent Eric McFarland, who kicked off the day with multiple scores and the type of yards after contact that already separates him as a national recruit, to more dominance from Brysen Wright on the outside. The Jacksonville native made the play of the day Friday and continued to get behind defenders on Saturday in another multi-score showing. South Floridian Amir Sears continues to look like one of the more lengthy and instinctive players regardless of class or position, making plays at both wide receiver and defensive back. There is just a buzz when the Lo-Pro quarterback, who is committed to Hawaii, takes the field. He pilots the nation's top 7-on-7 club, which exited the weekend as not only the No. 1 seed for the championship on Sunday, but ran through its schedule undefeated and scored the most points along the way. Eugenio has the charisma to lead, but his play doesn't get spoken of enough. He processes like few passers nationally and can deliver to all three levels with both great accuracy and timing. Sure, he's small in stature and won't project like a potential No. 1 overall NFL Draft pick, but he just racks up wins at Las Vegas (Nev.) Bishop Gorman High School and everywhere in between. I wouldn't bet against him continuing to prove his worth at Hawaii either.

Tuesdays with Gorney: Recapping a busy weekend of major commits

It was not a blockbuster weekend of commitments but there were still some major ones all the way through Monday when a five-star quarterback came off the board . In today's Tuesdays With Gorney, Rivals national recruiting director Adam Gorney gives his thoughts on each one here. MORE ON JARED CURTIS: Recruiting ripple effect | What this means for UGA | Top recruits react | Behind the scenes RIVALS CAMP SERIES DALLAS: Position MVPs | Ranking the QBs | Rumor Mill | Programs that should be pleased NEW 2026 RIVALS250 RELEASED: Ranking | Gorney goes position-by-position | Toughest decisions Throughout the latter part of his recruitment, Colman-Brusa remained steadfast that he was still open to all programs and after important visits to Ohio State and Oregon in recent weeks, it looked like the four-star edge rusher was open to others. But Washington was always going to be the program to beat since the Burien (Wash.) Kennedy standout lives just miles from campus. His brother, Lowen , already plays for the Huskies and that coaching staff has made him a priority as well. Big and strong off the edge or coming from the middle, Colman-Brusa has speed and power. He can play anywhere across the defensive line. SHARE YOUR THOUGHTS WITH WASHINGTON FANS AT JARED CURTIS - Georgia After an early commitment to Georgia , Curtis backed off his pledge not because he had a falling out with the Bulldogs but because he wanted to go through his recruitment with an open mind. South Carolina emerged as a real contender along with many others but then it narrowed back down to Georgia and Oregon. On Monday evening, the five-star quarterback from Nashville (Tenn.) Nashville Christian picked the Dawgs again. It's another huge win for Georgia as Curtis is one of the top quarterbacks in the class and it's always so difficult to get an elite player re-committed. Oregon offered a ton and there was a time where it looked like the Ducks had the edge but after numerous visits, being sold on playing in the SEC, closer to home and reinforcing why he committed there in the first place, coach Kirby Smart and his staff won out again. SHARE YOUR THOUGHTS WITH GEORGIA FANS AT KAYDEN DIXON-WYATT - Ohio State In late March, the high four-star receiver told me that Ohio State was No. 1 on his list followed by Oregon. Georgia, Texas and USC rounded out a top five but it was essentially a two-team race for the Santa Ana (Calif.) Mater Dei star receiver. Heading into Sunday's decision, it appeared that the Ducks might have eclipsed the Buckeyes, especially after a great visit back to Eugene. But that was not the case as Ohio State won out again. In front of five-star teammate and fellow Ohio State pledge Chris Henry Jr. and many others, Dixon-Wyatt picked the Buckeyes. The rich get only richer as they have an absolutely loaded receiver class again. SHARE YOUR THOUGHTS WITH OHIO STATE FANS AT HUDSON DUNN - Minnesota This is an under-the-radar great commitment for Minnesota . Early on, Michigan and Oregon were the front-runners for Dunn and then Arizona State looked like the team to beat for the high three-star edge rusher from Peoria (Ariz.) Liberty. But the Golden Gophers continued to have a great relationship with Dunn. He visited over the weekend and was sold. A back-to-back state champion, Dunn had 57 tackles and 13.5 sacks last season. Even though he's a little undersized as an edge rusher he's super fast and productive. SHARE YOUR THOUGHTS WITH MINNESOTA FANS AT BRAYLON EDWARDS - SMU When SMU coach Rhett Lashlee talked to Rivals during signing day, he made it clear that he wanted to lock up the top talent in the Dallas Metroplex and that's why Edwards is so big. The three-star cornerback can run with anybody, does a great job redirecting and then making a play on the ball. He is coming to the Mustangs from the loaded Duncanville program. SMU also beat out Auburn and North Carolina for Edwards and winning those huge recruiting battles is crucial as the Mustangs look to return to the College Football Playoff. SHARE YOUR THOUGHTS WITH SMU FANS AT MATTHIEU LAMAH - Penn State Sometimes, going where you're wanted and feel most comfortable is all that's needed. That was the feeling from the three-star linebacker from Nokesville (Va.) Patriot as Lamah (formerly Kanu) picked the Nittany Lions on Monday over Kentucky , Michigan, North Carolina, Rutgers and Virginia Tech . Lamah has developed an outstanding relationship with coach James Franklin, position coach Dan Connor and others. After 137 tackles, three sacks and three forced fumbles last season, production is not an issue with Lamah and we'll give a second look at his ranking moving forward. SHARE YOUR THOUGHTS WITH PENN STATE FANS AT DEMETRICE MCCRAY - Pitt The new Pitt receiver commit does an excellent job of changing up his speeds first to set up a cornerback and lull him to sleep and then accelerate by him for some big gainers. The three-star receiver only had 31 catches in his junior season but seven went for touchdowns. He has some game-breaker ability in the open field. SHARE YOUR THOUGHTS WITH PITT FANS AT ALJOUR MILES II - SMU Oklahoma State made a big move recently after a great visit to Stillwater and Oklahoma looked like the team to beat for Miles. That's why it's even bigger that SMU won out for Miles over the weekend. A four-star receiver outside the Rivals250, Miles is the first receiver in SMU's class but it's a strong group of skill players with Miles, RB Christian Rhodes and QB Cole Leinart leading the way. JASE REYNOLDS - Nebraska Reynolds has better tape than his offer list indicates. Maybe it was because a lot of programs didn't want to go through the effort since Nebraska was always the front-runner for the three-star from Elkhorn (Neb.) Elkhorn North or maybe because Reynolds just slipped through the cracks, but the Huskers are getting a good one. The local prospect (he lives about an hour away from Lincoln) had more than 90 tackles in his junior season. He can come off the edge or play in space and he does a great job reading and then quickly reacting, whether it's knocking down a pass or coming up to make the tackle. SHARE YOUR THOUGHTS WITH NEBRASKA FANS AT DAMARIUS YATES - Ole Miss Mississippi State landed an early commitment in the fall from Yates but by December, the four-star running back from De Kalb (Miss.) Kemper County backed off that pledge. His teammate, Mario Nash , ended up at Florida State and it looked like the Seminoles, Nebraska and others emerged as the favorites. Over the last few months, though, and after a concerted effort from the Ole Miss coaching staff including coach Lane Kiffin, Yates committed to the Rebels following a weekend visit. With more than 2,000 all-purpose yards last season, Yates should see opportunities to get the ball in Oxford. He is the second RB in the Ole Miss class, joining four-star Ja'Michael Jones . Ranking the top five portal WR classes

© Brett Davis-Imagn Images Teams around the country solidified the foundation of their roster during the winter transfer window. This week we're highlighting the best transfer classes by position. Today the wide receivers are under the microscope. RELATED: Ranking the top five portal QB classes | Top portal RB classes MORE TRANSFER PORTAL: Latest news | Transfer search | Transfer Team Ranking | Football Player Ranking The Aggies are reloading at wide receiver in this transfer class and, on paper, their quartet of signees is the best in the nation. Former NC State star KC Concepcion was a four-star high school signee and more than lived up to the hype during his time in Raleigh. Mario Craver's career got off to a good start at Mississippi State. The real wild card is Micah Hudson. Formerly of Texas Tech, Hudson was a five-star high school prospect but barely saw much action last season with the Red Raiders. He is currently not with the Texas A&M program for undisclosed reasons but his addition would be big for a receiver room that will also include transfer Jonah Wilson from Houston along with high school signees Jerome Myles and Kelshaun Johnson. SHARE YOUR THOUGHTS WITH TEXAS A&M FANS AT © Darren Yamashita-Imagn Images Matt Rhule and staff are bringing in a massive group of receivers for star quarterback Dylan Raiola. After signing Rivals250 high school receivers Cortez Mills and Isaiah Moze, Nebraska also landed top-30 transfer prospects Dane Key and Nyziah Hunter along with four-star Hardley Gilmore IV. Key is a big target with sure hands and has an established track record of production during his time at Kentucky. Gilmore, who has three years of eligibility remaining, just finished up his freshman season at Kentucky. Hunter also just finished his freshman season at Cal, in which he showed a lot of promise with 40 catches for 578 yards and five touchdowns. SHARE YOUR THOUGHTS WITH NEBRASKA FANS AT © Gary A. Vasquez-Imagn Images Georgia's receiving corps is getting a shot in the arm with two elite transfer receivers. Former USC standout Zachariah Branch, one of two five-star receiver transfers in this cycle, is going to suit up for the Bulldogs next season as he looks to make more of a consistent impact on the field. He'll be joined by former Texas A&M receiver Noah Thomas, a top-20 transfer prospect this cycle. Thomas racked up 39 catches for 574 yards and eight touchdowns in a limited passing offense last season. SHARE YOUR THOUGHTS WITH GEORGIA FANS AT © Saul Young / USA TODAY NETWORK via Imagn Images LSU is restocking its receiver room with three high-potential prospects in Barion Brown, Nic Anderson and Destyn Hill. Brown and Anderson will bring elite speed to the table. At Kentucky, Brown set a Wildcat record with 29.3 yards per kickoff return. A quad injury kept Anderson from suiting up for Oklahoma last season but the previous year he set a Sooners freshman record with 38 catches for 798 yards and 10 touchdowns. Hill also has a history with injuries and only managed 87 receiving yards during his time at Florida State. As a high school prospect, Hill was known for his speed and big-play ability. SHARE YOUR THOUGHTS WITH LSU FANS AT © Kevin Jairaj-Imagn Images Head coach Lane Kiffin and company are taking a large group of transfer receivers this cycle and it's led by four-stars De'Zhaun Stribling, Caleb Odom and Harrison Wallace III. Stribling is coming off a year in which he posted 52 catches for 882 yards and six touchdowns at Oklahoma State, bringing him to 161 catches, 2,152 receiving yards and 17 touchdowns in his career. Odom still has a very bright future. He was a highly touted high school prospect but only managed seven catches for 65 yards as a freshman this past season. Wallace was Penn State's leading receiver after Tyler Warren this past season. Over four years with the Nittany Lions he had 84 catches, 1,221 receiving yards and six touchdowns. Three-star transfer prospects Deuce Alexander from Wake Forest and Traylon Ray from West Virginia will also join the Ole Miss receiving corps next season. SHARE YOUR THOUGHTS WITH OLE MISS FANS AT
