'The Naked Gun' Fan Screening - Win Tickets To Geek Culture Event
Fans of the old Police Squad franchise, buckle up! The Naked Gun is about to hit the screens again on 7 August 2025, this time starring Liam Neeson ( Taken franchise) as Frank Drebin Jr., son of Leslie Nielsen's Frank Drebin, who was the protagonist of the previous films. With his gun and badge in hand, Drebin will stop at nothing to fight crime, whether it's a cafe toilet queue or a man's laughter. Neeson is back in this legacy sequel, once again as a man who has a particular set of skills, but this time to follow in his father's footsteps and lead Police Squad, an elite task force, to save the world. ‘Jurassic World Rebirth' Fan Premiere Screening Roars To Life With 200-Strong Crowd
Life finds a way, and so too did the Jurassic World franchise, which has grown since its 1993 beginnings to become a household name and icon of the silver screen. After three years in hibernation, the franchise roars to life once more with Jurassic World Rebirth , and Singapore fans were treated to an early encounter with the magnificent prehistoric beasts once more during an early Geek Culture fan premiere on 1 July 2025. Hosted in partnership with UIP Singapore, the screening was met with a full-house attendance of dino-heads and Jurassic franchise fans alike, all buzzing with excitement on the next nasty monstrosity the film is bound to unleash. Even before the cinema doors opened, anticipation was at an all-time high, with ample opportunities for fans to snag a quick photo op with the venue filled to the brim with movie posters and screens. Once seated in the hall, cheers of excitement and laughter erupted upon the sight of our host Debbi, who was all decked out in her T. rex onesie, as she took them through the pre-show activities, with a lucky few even walking away with exclusive merchandise, including five sets of Jurassic World Rebirth premiums consisting of a dyed T-shirt, beach towel, ice mold, alongside other goodies like themed tees from and 12-inch dinosaur figures from Mattel. Picking up five years after 2022's Jurassic World Dominion , this latest chapter follows new series protagonists Zora Bennett (Scarlett Johansson, Black Widow ), who teams up with Dr. Henry Loomis (Jonathan Bailey, Wicked ) and ex-military leader Duncan Kincaid (Mahershala Ali, Moonlight ) on a mission to a prohibited island in the Atlantic, the site of its original Jurassic Park , to retrieve DNA samples while stalked by all manner of prehistoric nightmares such as the Distortus rex (nicknamed the D. rex), a six-limbed mutation of the original T. rex. In series tradition, the film had no shortage of heart-pounding moments, as our heroes are left powerless against the various towering beasts, now mutated in never-before-seen ways (as though coming face to face with a regular dinosaur wasn't already intimidating enough). Its lengthy two-hour and 14-minute runtime gave further opportunities to raise the stakes, allowing for more varied and thrilling encounters no longer confined to a mere park, but an entire island this time around. It's these new additions that further enhance this latest outing's appeal, as the film packs enough surprising new prehistoric faces to keep even the most die-hard Jurassic fan on their toes, a testament to how far the franchise has come, and the ever-lasting wonder of witnessing dinosaurs coming to life once again. Like its namesake, Jurassic World Rebirth isn't just a revival of the long-running franchise, it's a rekindling of mankind's fascination with what has long been extinct, and as the films have so aptly described in the past, we didn't ask for reality, we asked for more teeth. 'Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning' Fan Screening Celebrates Last Hunt With Over 300 Fans
It's been nearly 30 years since Tom Cruise stepped into the role of Ethan Hunt, pulling off one death-defying stunt after another. With Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning expected to be the actor's swan song, it's only apt for things to end off on a bang, which, in Geek Culture speak, means an exclusive fan screening. Hosted by yours truly, the region's leading online entertainment, tech and gaming media, and UIP Singapore, the event saw full-house attendance that is a testament to the franchise's enduring and beloved legacy. But buzzing excitement was in the air even before doors opened, with attendees posing for the camera at the designated photo spot while basking in the company of others. Once seated in the cinema hall, their knowledge of the series was put to the test. A mini-quiz, serving as a trip down memory lane of sorts, referenced moments across its seven-film repertoire, and every correct attempt was rewarded with a set of official premiums. Five were given out in total, comprising a keychain, a kangaroo crewneck, and a multifunction Bluetooth speaker each. The post-activity high lingered as lights dimmed, culminating in a key highlight of the evening: a greeting video featuring Simon Pegg, Pom Klementieff, and Greg Tarzan Davis, which we captured, fresh off the red carpet premiere in Tokyo a week earlier. Last but certainly not the least, Tom Cruise made an appearance on the silver screen to deliver a special message, offering the perfect segue into the opening seconds of the film. Picking up from last year's Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One , The Final Reckoning marks the highly-anticipated return of the franchise's signature ensemble, including longtime allies Luther (Ving Rhames, Pulp Fiction ) and Benji (Pegg, Shaun of the Dead ), newly-inducted IMF agent Grace (Hayley Atwell, Agent Carter ), assassin-turned-ally Paris (Klementieff, Guardians of the Galaxy ), and U.S. Intelligence operative Degas (Davis, Top Gun: Maverick ). Leading the team is Cruise's Ethan Hunt, who continues his mission to stop Gabriel Martinelli (Esai Morales, Bad Boys ), a ghost from his past, from obtaining the AI programme known as 'the Entity'. Like before, plenty of heart-stopping stunts and thrilling action is to be expected, whether in the skies or on solid ground. The chunky 170-minute runtime (and the longest in the franchise to date), however, makes room for even higher stakes and more high-octane sequences – clearly the right approach, if the cheers during the credits roll are any indication. Longtime enthusiasts, in particular, will take delight in the callback moments in Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning and appreciate just how far the franchise has come. After 29 years of self-destructing messages and courting danger, it can be difficult to imagine a Mission: Impossible movie without Cruise, but it's not game over yet – merely a celebration that every choice, every mission, has all led to this. Si Jia is a casual geek at heart – or as casual as someone with Sephiroth's theme on her Spotify playlist can get. A fan of movies, games, and Japanese culture, Si Jia's greatest weakness is the Steam Summer Sale. Or any Steam sale, really.
