Madhya Pradesh Govt Launches Probe As School Repair Bills Go Viral

The Madhya Pradesh government has initiated an investigation after paintwork bills from two schools in Shahdol district surfaced on social media, revealing suspected fraudulent payments and inflated entries for labour and materials. The bills circulated online show inflated entries for labour and materials, claiming that 168 labourers and 65 masons were deployed to apply just four litres of paint at one school, while 275 workers and 150 masons were assigned to use 20 litres at another. School Education Minister Uday Pratap Singh has directed immediate action following the discovery of suspected fraudulent payments sanctioned under the guise of minor maintenance at Sakandi Government High School and Nipaniya Higher Secondary School, both located in the Beohari Assembly segment of Shahdol district. The scandal came to light after detailed bills circulated on social media, revealing what appear to be inflated entries for labour and materials. — Shalendra Patel (@ShalendraPate20) July 5, 2025 At Sakandi High School, official records claimed that 168 labourers and 65 masons were deployed for a job involving merely four litres of paint. The recorded expenditure -- Rs 1,06,984 -- has raised widespread suspicion. Nipaniya School's records were no less startling: Rs 2,31,685 was shown as approved for the work of 275 labourers and 150 masons, who allegedly undertook tasks involving just twenty litres of paint, installation of ten windows, and four doors. Reacting firmly to the disclosures, the Education Minister ordered the Secretary of the School Education Department and the Commissioner of Public Instruction to carry out a prompt and impartial inquiry. He reiterated the government's zero-tolerance stance on corruption and irregularities within public institutions, emphasising that no leniency would be shown to those found guilty. The revelations have triggered public dissatisfaction and cast a shadow on the credibility of fund utilisation in rural education infrastructure. Many have voiced concerns over how such inflated expenditures went unnoticed, calling for stronger accountability mechanisms and audit practices within local education departments. The controversy arrives at a time when the Madhya Pradesh government is actively promoting transparency and investment across multiple sectors. This incident might serve as a catalyst for introducing stricter audit protocols, digital transparency tools, and decentralised monitoring systems involving local stakeholders.

Bhadri Naresh Uday Pratap Singh put under house arrest

Police put 13 people, including Raha Uday Pratap Singh, under house arrest for 40 hours from Saturday morning onwards owing to ongoing Muharram. The house arrest which started on Saturday morning at 5am will end after the end of Muharram at 9 pm on Sunday night. Police deployment outside Bhadri Mahal in Kunda Pratapgarh since Saturday morning. (HT Photo) Police posted a notice of house arrest at the gate of Bhadri Mahal in the early hours of Saturday and a heavy police force was deployed outside the palace. Bhadri Naresh Raja Uday Pratap Singh, father of seven-time MLA of Kunda, former cabinet minister and president of Jansatta Dal Loktantrik, Raghuraj Pratap Singh, Raja Bhaiya, has been the target of police administration for the last 10 years. In 2015, on the day of Muharram, the recitation of Hanuman Chalisa and organising a huge bhandara at the Hanuman temple in Sheikhpur Aashiq village has become a problem for him. The police administration banned the bhandara after the Muslim community opposed it. To ensure that Raja Uday Pratap Singh did not come out of his palace and visit the temple on the day of Muharram, he was put under house arrest along with his supporters. Along with Uday Pratap Singh, his trusted men including Jitendra Yadav resident of Naubasta, Anand Pal resident of Barhaipur, Ramakant resident of Sheikhpur Aashiq, Bhawani Vishwakarma resident of Badupur, Ravi Singh, president of Kunda Bar Association, senior advocate Hanuman Prasad Pandey resident of Subhash Nagar, advocate Kesarinandan Pandey resident of Saraiyan Praveshpur, Jamuna Prasad Maurya, resident of Mian Ka Purwa Majhilgaon, Nirbhay Singh resident of Benti, Gaya Prasad Prajapati resident of Loharan Ka Purwa Sariyawan, Jugnu Vishwakarma resident of Gopalganj Shahpur, and Mohan, resident of Pannalal Road, Georgetown, Prayagraj have also been put under house arrest. Raja Uday Pratap Singh had already expressed his apprehension by posting on his X account that could be again put under house arrest in a few days. According to SDM, Kunda Vachaspati Singh, 'to ensure that there was no disturbance on the day of Muharram and the festival was completed safely, 13 people including Raja Uday Pratap Singh have been put under house arrest for 40 hours in view of the possibility of breach of peace.' A simian had died in an accident near Hanuman Temple at Shekhupur Ashiq village on 10th day of Moharram in 2005. Some residents of the village started reciting Hanuman Chalisa on 10th day of Moharram for the dead monkey. In 2014, Uday Pratap had organised a Bhandara at the temple which is on the way to Karbala where Moharram processions were taken out. However, in 2015, there was tension among members of two communities on the 10th day of Moharram when Bhandara was organised while Moharram processions were being taken out. Tension again prevailed in 2016 following which Pratapgarh administration put a restriction on organising a Bhandara. Raja Uday Pratap Singh had also approached the court for permission to organise a Bhandara but his pleas were turned down. Since then, Raja Uday Pratap Singh is being put under house arrest on the 10th day of Moharram each year.

Noida: 3 arrested, cars seized day after stunts video invite ₹1.23L fine

Noida: A day after the Noida Traffic Police issued fines totalling ₹ 1.23 lakh against two vehicles for performing stunts in Greater Noida, police arrested three people on Tuesday and also seized all the three cars that were allegedly part of the incident, officers said. the Noida Traffic Police tracked down the vehicles by scanning their registration numbers and issued challans amounting to ₹ 1.23 lakh — ₹ 65,500 for one vehicle and ₹ 57,500 for the other visible in the video clip. (HT Photos) The suspects in their 30s have been identified as Uday Pratap Singh, a practising lawyer in Delhi and resident of Pratap Vihar, Ghaziabad; Shivam Patel, a resident of Alpha 1 in Greater Noida; and Prince Bharadwaj, a resident of Jewar. Both Patel and Bharadwaj are students at a private university in Knowledge Park, they added. 'Investigation revealed that the suspects recorded the video around two months ago to upload on social media. They forgot the exact location as they frequently recorded stunt videos,' said Knowledge Park station house officer Sarvesh Singh, adding: 'We are also investigating more stunt videos recorded by them.' On Monday, their stunt video widely circulated on social media purportedly showed stunts being performed in two moving cars. A man was seen hanging out of a car window, waving a stick, while the driver's door remained open. Another car is seen speeding in a zigzag manner. The act was video recorded from the third car. HT, however, could not verify the video's authenticity. Taking cognisance of the video, the Noida Traffic Police tracked down the vehicles by scanning their registration numbers and issued challans amounting to ₹ 1.23 lakh — ₹ 65,500 for one vehicle and ₹ 57,500 for the other visible in the video clip. On Tuesday, all three cars were seized under Section 207 of the Motor Vehicles Act. The fines were imposed under multiple sections of the Motor Vehicles Act, including Section 184 (dangerous driving), Section 189 (speeding), Section 179 (disobedience and obstruction), and Section 194B (seatbelt violation). A case under Sections 281 (rash driving) and 125 (act endangering life) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita was also registered at the Knowledge Park police station.
