Rs 1.07 lakh bill: In Madhya Pradesh, 168 labourers, 65 masons deployed to apply 4 litres of paint at school; probe ordered
Minister of School Education Rao Uday Pratap Singh directed the principal secretary of school education and the commissioner of public instructions to initiate an investigation.
Meanwhile, the district collector of Shahdol also ordered a separate inquiry and appointed SDM Beohari, Narendra Singh Dhurvey, to conduct it.
The controversial bills were from government schools in Sakandi and Nipaniya villages under Beohari tehsil of the district.
According to the documents, Rs 1.07 lakh was allegedly withdrawn to apply just 4 litres of oil paint at the school in Sakandi, while Rs 2.3 lakh was shown as spent for 20 litres of paint at the school in Nipaniya.
'A probe has been ordered, and notices have been issued to the district education officer as well as the principals of the schools. We have also received the probe report for the Sakandi village school. Replies to the notices are expected by evening. Even if the construction and repair work is still ongoing, payment for materials can be withdrawn—but payment for labourers can only be made once the work is complete,' Shahdol district collector Kedar Singh told TOI.

Patna: Police on Sunday arrested the main accused of a human trafficking gang from Ara in Bhojpur district. The accused was identified as Binda Kunwar, a resident of the Chauri police station area in Bhojpur district. The arrest came after five traffickers, including a woman, were previously apprehended and sent to jail in connection with a missing minor girl complaint at Danapur police station on May 19. The network, active in Patna, Ara, Rohtas, and other districts, maintained close connections with brokers in Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan. Senior citizen duped of Rs 88L in 'digital arrest' scam
Tumakuru: Fraudsters impersonating Delhi Police officers duped a 74-year-old man named Mrutyunjaya from Raghavendra Nagar in Tumakuru of Rs 88 lakh by threatening a digital June 18, the accused contacted Mrutyunjaya and introduced himself as a Delhi Telecom officer. He claimed that a SIM card had been purchased in his name in Mumbai and was being used for illegal money transfers. The caller then said that a senior officer would speak with person then contacted Mrutyunjaya via WhatsApp video call, introducing himself as a Cyber Crime officer.'Cooked up story'The 'cyber crime officer' told Mrutyunjaya that in 2023, a fraudster by name Naresh Goyal had been arrested in connection with a Rs 583 crore fraud case and that he had opened an account with Canara Bank, Mumbai, in Mrutyunjaya's name. Around Rs 2 crore from 24 families had been deposited into that account, and he had transferred Rs 25 lakh to Mrutyunjaya as scammers said they found documents related to him (Mrutyunjaya) during a search of Goyal's residence and that Mrutyunjaya would be 'digitally arrested' soon. He was instructed not to leave his home or disconnect the June 19, the fraudsters called Mrutyunjaya again, threatening him with arrest and collected complete information about his movable and immovable assets. They convinced him that to get cleared from the case, he would have to invest money, which would be refunded after June 21, Mrutyunjaya transferred Rs 13 lakh to the account provided by the fraudsters. Later that night, during another video call, he was instructed to withdraw deposit amounts from various bank accounts.'We'll pay interest'On June 23, Mrutyunjaya transferred an additional Rs 40 lakh to the fraudsters. The next day, the accused called again and demanded another Rs 60 lakh as 'investment.' When Mrutyunjaya said he did not have that much money, the fraudster pressured him to pledge gold jewellery and assured him that they would pay the June 30, Mrutyunjaya pledged his jewellery at a bank and transferred Rs 25 lakh to the account specified by the they demanded an additional Rs 10 lakh. When Mrutyunjaya approached his relatives for money, they became suspicious and questioned him, leading to the realisation that he had been has now filed a complaint at the Cyber Crime Police Station, requesting action against the fraudsters who cheated him of Rs 88 lakh under the pretence of a digital arrest. A case has been registered.

Two more die, death toll in Telangana pharma unit blast rises to 42
The death toll in the fire and explosion at Sigachi Industries Ltd's manufacturing unit in Pashamylaram near Hyderabad rose to 42 on Sunday. Two of the injured workers succumbed while undergoing treatment at a hospital in Patancheru on Sunday. Sigachi Industries, in a statement on Sunday night, said that it is saddened to share the loss of two more team members since July 4, taking the death toll to 42. Of the 33 injured team members, 14 have now recovered and been discharged from the hospital, while 18 continue to be under medical attention in various hospitals, it said. Eight team members are still missing. Of the 143 members present on-site during the time of the accident, 61 are safe, the company statement added. Setup in 1989, Sigachi Industries' Pashamylaram plant has been incident-free for 36 years. It is an ISO 45001:2018 certified facility and follows stringent safety and compliance measures. 'Since the time of the accident, we have been coordinating the emergency response, family support, and extending cooperation with the investigation and compliance efforts,' the company said. A major explosion occurred in the manufacturing plant of Sigachi Industries at Pashamylaram, Patancheru Mandal, Sangareddy district on June 30. The plant manufactures Microcrystalline Cellulose powder, which is used in tablets and capsules as a binding agent. Rescue teams found 30 pieces of human remains at the site, and they were sent to the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL), Hyderabad, for DNA analysis. According to officials at Patancheru Government Hospital, of the 24 DNA samples collected so far, 22 bodies have been identified and handed over to their families. The deceased hailed from Bihar, Odisha, Uttar Pradesh and Andhra Pradesh. Authorities are sending the bodies in ambulances to their native places with police escort. Two police constables are accompanying each body. Personnel from Fire Services, SDRF, HYDRAA and police continued combing through the debris for human remains. Officials said they will continue the operation till they find all remains. Sigachi Industries has already announced Rs 1 crore compensation each to the families of the deceased. It also announced that it would bear all the expenditure towards the treatment of the injured and provide them all the support.
