41 lakh students trained under Naan Mudhalvan scheme: Govt
Chennai: A total of 41.38lakh students and 1lakh lecturers across Tamil Nadu received training under the 'Naan Mudhalvan' scheme, one of the state's largest skilling initiatives aimed at improving youth employability, said the state govt. A new phase of the SCOOT (Study, Connect, Observe, Orient, and Transform) programme will send students from physics, chemistry, and allied fields for hands-on exposure abroad. The state is now gearing up to expand the scheme across new sectors, including AI, data science, and global job pathways. The state special programme implementation department officials said they are adding advanced modules, boosting foreign collaborations, and launching residential coaching programmes for competitive exams. To improve global job opportunities, the govt has tied up with institutions abroad. "Select students will be sent for internships and in-person training in countries such as South Korea, Japan, and the UK, based on partnerships with universities and industry bodies," said an official. Under international collaboration, 25 students have already been sent for in-person training at Durham University in the UK, while 15 students underwent technical training in Japan. In 2025, six students from chemistry and physics backgrounds also completed internships at Pusan National University and Gachon University in South Korea. So far, more than 1.02lakh students have secured jobs through pooled campus placements and job fairs. As part of higher education support, 77,752 students were helped through the 'Uyarvukku Padi' scheme, while 'Kalloori Kanavu 2024' benefited 1.87 lakh students since its inception in 2022 — including 81,149 students in 2025-26 alone.

41.38 lakh students, 1 lakh teachers trained under Naan Mudhalvan scheme: T.N. government
The Tamil Nadu government on Sunday said over 41.38 lakh students and about 1 lakh teachers have been trained under the Naan Mudhalvan scheme so far. Besides this, the Uyarvukku Padi scheme has facilitated the admission of 77,752 students into higher education institutions. Under the Kalloori Kanavu 24 initiative, over 1.87 lakh have benefited since its inception in 2022. In 2025-26, 81,149 students benefited, an official release listing the accomplishments of the Special Programme Implementation Department said. A total of 29 government engineering colleges have been equipped with skill and employment centres at an estimated cost of ₹30.17 crore, inaugurated by Deputy Chief Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin on December 18, 2024, at the Government College of Technology, Coimbatore. Under the North Chennai Development Project, about 1,200 individuals from the region participated in skill training and job fairs, with 297 selected for recruitment, training, and placement, it said. Since 2021-22, 259,072 college hostel students from the Adi Dravidar community, Most Backward Classes, and Backward Classes have received training in English speaking and softskill development, the release said. Under the SCOOT Pilot Phase Outcomes (2024), implemented in collaboration with the British Council and Durham University, 100 students received online training in artificial intelligence and data science, it said. The top 25 students received in-person training at Durham University, and 13 of them were placed in leading companies. For the Kalaignar Magalir Urimai Thogai scheme, an allocation of ₹8,123.83 crore was made for 2023-24 and ₹13,721.50 crore for 2024-25. 'The scheme will be expanded to include more eligible women,' it said.

The Tamil Nadu government on Sunday said the Rs 1,000 monthly assistance under the Kalaignar's Women's Rights Scheme will be expanded to include more eligible women. Listing out a string of special schemes being implemented by the Special Programme Implementation Department, the state government said 63,949 students got employment through job fairs organised under the "Naan Mudhalvan" scheme. Round the clock student help desk set up at Thoothukudi Collectorate to guide higher education choices
With the aim of increasing the higher education rate and reducing the dropout rate, a 24x7 control room has been established at the Thoothukudi District Collectorate. The centre provides guidance to students on continuing their higher education and offers information about vocational course options for those who were unable to clear their examination. The 'Dream' control room was established on May 21, this year under the initiative 'Uyarvukku Padi' (education for upliftment) by District Collector K. Elambahavath, is designed to assist students in choosing suitable higher education courses based on their marks, advising students to apply for one or more courses for safer options, counselling for dropout students and supports various educational needs. Students and public can contact the control room at 9384697546 and 9788859175. A total of 25 surplus teachers from the district have been assigned at the control room to support students. Earlier a survey was conducted by the district administration a target groups including parentless students, unwilling students, priority students, failed and absentees, drop outs from 2023-204 academic year and general category. From this survey, the administration has identified 21, 505 students in the above categories and successfully facilitated 21,127 of them to apply for at least one course. Additional focus was also given to BC minority girl students, students from coastal hamlets, differently abled students, persons studied in Tamil medium, children of conservancy workers and sports quota students. Sudalaimuthu, an official from the control room said that the Centre has received a total of 253 calls so far. He added that the State government and district administration has identified around 2,000 vulnerable students across the district, and is working to ensure their enrolment in higher education. The efforts to reach dropout students is being carried out through the officials from revenue department under the jurisdiction of respective Revenue Divisional Officers. This allows accurate mapping of dropout students, according to Mr. Sudalaimuthu. 'In cases where students have become labourers due to financial hardships, we have spoken to them and arranged for their education through the Collector's description fund and other support from the State Education Department,' he mentioned. A total of 398 dropout children from current and previous academic years have been identified so far under the initiative, and efforts are underway to reintegrate them into the education system. Speaking about the initiative, District Collector K. Elambahavath emphasised that the ultimate goal is to provide guidance for students from all walks of life, 'Everyone's problem is not the same,' he said. As the engineering rank list has been announced, 'We are also focusing on helping students make informed choices based on factors such as placement rates, NAAC-accredited colleges and other key criteria. This will give them a clearer picture before finalizing their options,' he added.
