Typhoon Wipha: Vietnam deploys Over 346,000 Soldiers, 8,200 Vehicles
HANOI, July 22 (Bernama-VNA) -- Vietnam's Ministry of Defence on Monday mobilised 346,210 officers and soldiers, along with 8,200 various vehicles, including five aircraft, in response to Typhoon Wipha, which is nearing Vietnam's mainland, Vietnam News Agency (VNA) reported, citing the National Steering Committee for Civil Defence. Regarding the monitoring of fishing vessels, the Border Guard forces of localities from Quang Ninh to Dak Lak coordinated with local authorities and the families of ship owners to report, count, and guide 54,300 vehicles with 227,194 people on board, informing them of the storm's developments and path so they could proactively move to a safer area. Following the July 20 official dispatch of the Prime Minister and the July 21 official dispatch of the General Staff of the Vietnam People's Army (VPA) regarding the proactive response to Typhoon Wipha, the third storm to enter the East Sea, the Search and Rescue Department under the General Staff of the VPA has urged military units to maintain strict duty protocols.

Free HPV vaccination drive for girls in August
Visakhapatnam South MLA Vamsi Krishna Srinivas has urged parents to get their daughters aged 9 to 14 years vaccinated to prevent cervical cancer. A free HPV vaccine drive will be conducted for the students of the Government Queen Mary's High School, aged nine to 14 years, in August. The Lions Club of Vizag Charitable Trust and Chaitanya Sravanthi, with the funds from Visakhapatnam Port Authority (VPA), will organise the vaccination drive. Participating in an awareness camp organised for the parents at Queen Mary's High School on Thursday, Mr. Vamsi Krishna Srinivas said vaccination was the only way to prevent cervical cancer. Chaitanya Sravanthi president Shirin Rahman said the VPA was sponsoring the vaccination drive. The first dose would be administered in August, while the second dose would be given in February, 2026. Dr. I Vani, Superintendent, King George Hospital (KGH), said that vaccination of girls in the target age group was necessary to prevent cervical cancer. She said that pap smear tests were being conducted at KGH for the early detection of cervical cancer. Lions Cancer and General Hospital managing trustee V. Uma Maheswar Rao said awareness camps were being organised in rural and urban areas, particularly in slums. Dr. Sarojini, a retired DM&HO also spoke. GVMC corporator Sadiq, Queen Mary's School Head Master C.S.R. Varma, Lions Club of Vizag Charitable Trust secretary Ravichandra and treasurer Harinadh Chowdary were present.

Union Min to inaugurate BIMSTEC ports conclave in Vizag today
Visakhapatnam: Reaffirming India's commitment to strengthen regional maritime connectivity and cooperation across the Bay of Bengal Initiative for Multi-Sectoral Technical and Economic Cooperation (BIMSTEC) region, Visakhapatnam Port Authority (VPA) is going to host the second BIMSTEC Ports Conclave at Novotel on Monday (July 14). Focusing on the theme 'navigating the future: blue economy, innovation and sustainable partnerships', the two-day conclave will bring together ministerial delegations, port authorities, maritime experts, and business leaders from BIMSTEC member countries such as Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Myanmar, Nepal, Sri Lanka, and Thailand on to a platform. The conclave will be inaugurated by Minister for Ports, Shipping and Waterways Sarbananda Sonowal. The Union Minister will inaugurate several developmental projects at Visakhapatnam Port and lay the foundation stone for ensuing infrastructure works in the presence of Minister of State for Ports, Shipping and Waterways Shantanu Thakur and chairperson of VPA M. Angamuthu, among others. BIMSTEC plays a pivotal role in creating a prosperous, secure and resilient Indo-Pacific in line with India's Act East Policy, Neighbourhood First, and SAGAR (Security and Growth for All in the Region) vision. As part of the BIMSTEC Ports conclave's first edition, the theme centred on 'the blue seas synergy summit'. The second edition to focus on unlocking private investment and infrastructure partnerships across BIMSTEC ports, including fast-tracking of Kaladan Multimodal Transit Corridor and associated logistics networks, identifying and promoting coastal tourism circuits and heritage cruise lines, upskilling port workforce and developing future-ready talent pools, advancing the Blue Economy through green energy adoption, sustainable logistics, and digital transformation. Aligned with Maritime India Vision 2030 and Amrit Kaal Vision 2047, the conclave will feature deliberations on Harit Sagar (green ports) and shore-to-ship power supply and green hydrogen integration and decarbonisation pathways, smart logistics corridors, SEZs, and port-linked industrialisation. Ministers of Transport and Ports from BIMSTEC countries, senior officials from Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways, delegates from shipping corporations, port trusts, logistics companies and experts from UNESCAP, ADB, BIMSTEC Secretariat, and international think tanks to participate in the conclave.

Visakhapatnam Port Authority (VPA) will host the second 'Ports Conclave' at Novotel here on July 14-15 as part of the country's commitment to strengthen regional maritime connectivity and cooperation across the Bay of Bengal Initiative for Multi-Sectoral Technical and Economic Cooperation (BIMSTEC) region. Themed 'Navigating the Future: Blue Economy, Innovation and Sustainable Partnerships,' the event would bring together ministerial delegations, port authorities, maritime experts and business leaders from BIMSTEC member countries—Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Myanmar, Nepal, Sri Lanka and Thailand. 'Since VPA is India's Eastern Gateway and a leader in green and smart port initiatives, and with its advanced port infrastructure, cruise terminal and multimodal logistics ecosystem, Visakhapatnam has been considered for the conclave to discuss the next phase of BIMSTEC's Maritime journey,' said VPA secretary Venugopal. 'BIMSTEC plays a pivotal role in creating a prosperous, secure and resilient Indo-Pacific, in line with India's Act East Policy, Neighbourhood First and SAGAR (Security and Growth for All in the Region) vision,' Mr. Venugopal said.
