Phoenix Suns add Valley Suns head coach to Jordan Ott's coaching staff
First-year Phoenix Suns head coach Jordan Ott will have John Little on his staff as an assistant coach, league sources have informed The Arizona Republic. Little served as head coach of their G League team, the Valley Suns, during their inaugural season in 2024-25. The Valley Suns reached the 2025 G League playoffs under Little and advanced to the conference semifinals before losing to the eventual G League champion Stockton Kings. Stockton is the Sacramento Kings' G League team. Little has been in Las Vegas working as an assistant for the Suns' summer league team. Phoenix plays its final summer league game Saturday, July 19, against the Portland Trail Blazers at Cox Pavilion (6:30 p.m., NBA TV). The Suns have Jesse Mermuys, DeMarre Carroll, Brian Randle, Chaisson Allen and Little on Ott's coaching staff with Mateen Cleaves serving as a player development coach. Carroll has been the team's summer league head coach with Allen and Little on his staff. Ott, Randle and Mermuys have been in attendance, watching the games courtside. A 2006 Northern Iowa graduate, Little played overseas for eight years as a guard. He returned to Northern Iowa and worked as a video coordinator for two years (2017-19). He was on the Wisconsin Herd's coaching staff for four seasons (2019-23). The Herd are the Milwaukee Bucks' G League team. Little was an assistant there under Allen from 2021-23. Little then joined the Maine Celtics as an assistant for one season (2023-24), helping the Boston Celtics' G League team earn the No. 2 seed and reach the 2024 G League finals. Valley Suns end inaugural G League season with playoff loss to Stockton Kings
The Valley Suns have been eliminated from the 2025 G League playoffs, falling to the Stockton Kings, 122-114, on Thursday night, April 3, at Adventist Health Arena in Stockton, California. Phoenix Suns' two-way player TyTy Washington Jr. posted a triple-double. He scored 39 points, going 5-of-10 from 3-point range, adding 13 assists with only one turnover, 12 rebounds and two blocks for the fifth-seeded Valley Suns, who completed their inaugural G League season. Advertisement The No. 1 seeded Kings closed the game on a 10-0 run after trailing 114-112 with two minutes left in the game. Stockton is Sacramento's G League team coached by former Phoenix Suns assistant Quinton Crawford. Mason Jones scored a game-high 47 points to go along with nine assists to lead the Kings, who will face the No. 2-seeded Austin Spurs in the conference finals on April 6 at home. Austin is San Antonio's G League team. The Spurs defeated Utah's G League team, the third-seeded Salt Lake City Stars, 123-113, on April 3 in Cedar Park, Texas. The Maine Celtics will face the Osceola Magic in the Eastern Conference finals on April 6 in Kissimmee, Florida. Boston's G League team is a third seed while Orlando's G League squad is the top seed in the East. Suns' Oso Ighodaro drops monster double-double in G League debut Phoenix Suns rookie Oso Ighodaro registered a double-double on assignment in the G League on Tuesday to help the Valley Suns defeat the Salt Lake City Stars on the road. Ighodaro produced 18 points, 18 rebounds, five assists and one blocked shot in the 122-115 win at the Maverik Center. He finished by shooting 9-of-14 from the field and was a team-high plus-13 on the court in 33 minutes as the Suns improved to 9-6 in the regular season. The 40th pick recorded 10 points and 11 rebounds in the first half alone to help the Suns build an early 12-point advantage. He had several key players throughout the contest, including some timely rebounds late to help close out the Stars. Ighodaro was assigned to the G League on Tuesday after playing sparingly over the last two weeks with Phoenix. He will likely remain with the team throughout the week, with upcoming games on Wednesday against the Stars (9 p.m. EST) and Friday against the San Diego Clippers (9 p.m. EST). The 22-year-old is averaging 3.8 points, 3.5 rebounds and one assist on 55.8% shooting from the field in 36 appearances with the Suns. He has scored in double figures three times, including a career-high 12 points and seven rebounds on Nov. 18. The opportunity to play with the Valley Suns will enable him to maximize his development on the court and improve his overall skill set, with minutes at a premium in Phoenix. He has performed well when given the chance, and the team is excited about his potential.
