BJP likely to announce new Andhra Pradesh chief on July 1
ANI 28 Jun 2025, 23:54 GMT+10 Vijayawada (Andhra Pradesh) [India], June 28 (ANI): Andhra Pradesh BJP election officer Venkata Satyanarayana, MP, on Saturday said that the new party chief in the state is likely to be announced on July 1. The notification for the election will be issued on June 29. He said the nominations can be filed the next day between 11 am and 1 pm, and withdrawals can be done between 3 and 4 pm. 'A newly elected President is likely to be announced on 1 July. I announced the election procedure stipulated by the party constitution today. On 29 June, we will announce the notification of the election schedule where the electoral will be displayed... On 30 June, the nomination process will start from 11 am to 1 pm. Later, the withdrawal process will be conducted between 3 pm and 4 pm,' Satyanarayana said. He stated that the BJP is the only party that strictly adheres to democratic guidelines and Election Commission directions for its internal elections. 'BJP's commitment to democratic principles and adherence to established procedures reflects its dedication to internal democracy and transparency,' he said. Daggubati Purandeswari, MP from Rajahmundry, is the current president of the Andhra Pradesh BJP. The election of the Andhra Pradesh BJP chief is part of the organisational elections of the party to choose a new party chief. BJP is part of the ruling coalition in Andhra Pradesh. (ANI)

Tension at council meeting after VMC rejects water pipeline project
Vijayawada: Tensions flared at the Vijayawada Municipal Corporation (VMC) general council meeting on Tuesday after the council body turned down a proposal to supply drinking water through underground pipelines to nearly 2,500 residents across 485 households in the JAMAC housing complex, located within the APIIC Industrial Area Local Authority (IALA) at Jawahar Autonagar in Ward 11 of the Vijayawada East constituency. The uproar was sparked by opposition TDP corporators, who accused the council of dismissing the proposal without any deliberation. The plan aimed to ensure clean drinking water access to JAMAC residents. A chaotic scene unfolded as TDP members shouted anti-YSRCP slogans, decrying what they called a unilateral decision. In a dramatic turn, council floor leader Venkata Satyanarayana recommended suspending TDP corporators Mummineni Prasad and Chennupati Usha Rani under Rule 89 for using party slogans. BJP leader P Venkata Satyanarayana takes oath as Rajya Sabha member
New Delhi [India], May 28 (ANI): Vice-President of India and Chairman of Rajya Sabha, Jagdeep Dhankhar, administered oath of office to Paka Venkata Satyanarayana as an elected Member of Rajya Sabha in Parliament House. In an X post, the senior BJP leader P Venkata Satyanarayana shared the visuals from his oath ceremony. In the visuals, post his oath, the newly elected Rajya Sabha member can be seen sharing a heartfelt moment with VP Dhankar. Sharing the post, Venkata Satyanarayana said, 'This moment marks an unforgettable milestone in my life and journey of Public Service.' Earlier, the BJP leader Venkata Satyanarayana was elected unopposed to the Rajya Sabha from Andhra Pradesh. He was NDA's candidate for the seat in the Upper House of Parliament. Satyanarayana is an Advocate by profession. He is also the Andhra Pradesh-BJP's State Disciplinary Committee Chairman. With Rajya Sabha seats in Tamil Nadu set to undergo polls, DMK has allocated one Rajya Sabha seat to Makkal Needhi Maiyam, its founder and actor Kamal Haasan has been named the candidate for the Upper House of the Parliament. Makkal Needhi Maiam (MNM) leader Murali Appas said, 'We have passed a resolution to elect Kamal Haasan as a Rajya Sabha member from Makkal Needhi Maiam party.' Besides, the ruling DMK combine has named its three candidates for the Rajya Sabha election scheduled for June 19 this year. According to a release of the DMK, Salma, Advocate P Wilson, and SR Sivalingam are its candidates. Meanwhile, Kamal Haasan has courted a political controversy with his alleged remarks claiming that 'Kannada has its roots in Tamil.' In a strongly worded post on X, BJP Karnataka State President Vijayendra Yediyurappa demanded an unconditional apology from Haasan. In the 234-member Tamil Nadu Assembly, each candidate requires a minimum of 34 votes to clinch a Rajya Sabha seat. The DMK-led INDIA bloc, with 158 MLAs (DMK: 133, Congress:17, VCK: 4, CPI: 2, CPM: 2), is poised to win four seats comfortably. (ANI)

VMC corporators study AMRUT drinking water scheme in Madurai
Vijayawada: As part of South India tour to study development works and administrative activities, VMC corporators on Saturday visited Madurai Municipal Corporation in Tamil Nadu. The Mayor and Municipal Commissioner have explained the functioning of Madurai corporation and supply of drinking water and storm water management to Vijayawada municipal corporators. Madurai Municipal Corporation Mayor Indrani Ponvasanth explained that they are supplying 24/7 drinking water to the residents of Madurai city with an investment of Rs 2,000 crore, through AMRUT Project. The Mayor along with Commissioner Chitra Vijayan, welcomed VMC Deputy Mayor Avuthu Sri Srilaja Reddy, Floor Leader Venkata Satyanarayana, Deputy Floor Leader Ummadi Venkateswara Rao, and other corporators. The Mayor introduced her city's corporators to the visiting team. Floor Leader Venkata Satyanarayana explained the importance and significance of Vijayawada city, and the corporators introduced themselves. Madurai Mayor Indrani mentioned that Madurai city has 100 wards and five zones, and it is the second-largest corporation in Tamil Nadu. Earlier, water supply was limited to just two hours in the morning and two hours in the evening. However, they have overcome this issue and are now providing 24/7 water supply. Madurai Commissioner Chitra Vijayan explained that Madurai is a Smart City, and under the Smart City initiative, a five-storied Periyar Bus Stand was constructed with Rs 174.56 crore. Of these, two floors are basements, and three floors are above ground. Despite having two basement floors, stormwater management has been efficiently handled through strong drainage systems to prevent water stagnation. Sumps have been constructed with a capacity of four lakh cusecs to collect stormwater, which is later utilized for fire safety purposes. Later, the corporators were showed Periyar Bus Stand structure with the help of a map. The corporators studied the building's structure, the strong water drain sumps, and how rainwater is used for fire safety purposes. They discussed that implementing similar innovative projects would be very beneficial for the development of Vijayawada as well.

VMC corporators study development works in Bengaluru
Vijayawada: Corporators from the Vijayawada Municipal Corporation (VMC) visited Bengaluru to study the ongoing development projects undertaken by the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP), the Greater Bengaluru Municipal Corporation. The Chief Commissioner of BBMP, Tushar Girinath welcomed the corporators' delegation at the Integrated Command and Control Room and provided a detailed overview of BBMP's development activities, challenges, and overall administrative framework. VMC Floor Leader Venkata Satyanarayana introduced the corporators and briefed BBMP officials on the development initiatives and public services being implemented by the VMC. During the interaction, BBMP Chief Commissioner Tushar Girinath elaborated on the various development projects carried out by the corporation. He explained that BBMP, which originally covered 225 square kilometres, has now expanded to 700 square kilometres, serving a population of 1.41 crore people across eight zones under the Greater Bengaluru Municipal Corporation. He highlighted the ongoing development of white-top roads, which are designed to last 25 to 30 years without requiring major maintenance. Currently, 200 kilometres of such roads have been constructed across different parts of Bengaluru. Girinath also explained the K100 Project, which addresses storm water drainage in the city. Originating from the Koramangala Valley, the project spans 100 kilometres and aims to prevent water stagnation on roads during rainfall. So far, 11 kilometres of the project have been completed. As part of the project, natural methods are being used to treat stormwater through the growth of aquatic plants, thereby purifying the water. This initiative not only serves as a storm water drain but also enhances green cover, creating a pleasant environment for residents. He further stated that Bengaluru ranks third in India in implementing a Climate Action Plan. As part of this plan, the city is focusing on environmental conservation, lake restoration, and sustainable development. The BBMP faces four major challenges: waste management, roads, street lighting, and lake preservation. He added that the Integrated Command and Control Room monitors several critical parameters, including air quality, water levels in lakes, and vehicle tracking. During the visit, several corporators raised queries about BBMP's operations and received detailed responses from the Chief Commissioner. Deputy Mayor Shailaja Reddy, YSRCP Floor Leader Venkata Satyanarayana, TDP Deputy Floor Leader Ummidi Venkateswara Rao, and BJP representative Bulla Vijay Kumar were felicitated by the BBMP Chief Commissioner. YSRCP Floor Leader Venkata Satyanarayana expressed gratitude on behalf of VMC for the knowledge shared by BBMP and honoured Chief Commissioner Tushar Girinath for his hospitality and insights. Later, BBMP staff provided an on-ground visit to the KR Road, explaining that the road was laid 15 years ago and has not required any maintenance since then. They noted that the road is expected to last another 15 years without further upkeep. The team also toured the K100 project site at Shanti Nagar, where field-level explanations were given.
